Any idea why he couldn't get in the Cercle side consistently in his preferred position? I've watched Cercle and have no idea about him? Hotic very much the standout, along with the GK Didillon who has left. I know they've just replaced Matondo with a promising Japenese youngster Ueda.
Played on average the same or more than his teammates.
Hotic is a player similar to Bannon: creative but diminutive player. Won’t get as much time on the ball in the Championship as he does in Belgium

But we have the element of surprise on our side....at least for a while.
Exciting times indeed
I can only say that I am proper looking forward to the season.

It's been brilliant to have something to engage with over the off season/transfer window and to start to get to know who these new players are and thinking about the project ahead for the club and team.

I am more energised about getting back and watching than I have for a long time and I am more engaged with he club as a result.

Not knowing what the line up is. Not knowing what to expect, that will become clearer over time as you say. I love that we are getting better insight into the club through their media team. We are now getting to know a new manager who engages differently and has a different philosophy in style but still seems to value hard work at the core.

I think its changing the feel of the club both for me as a fan and more externally with signings like this. The club is changing in a good way for me in terms of my experience as a fan. Not everyone will like it and that's not me saying the way it felt previously was bad -they were more good times than not before. It's just different and I hope we can look back and say that this was a good thing.

However, I never liked the little old burnley label and the punching above our weight type labels and being seen as a traditional British side who played old fashioned football. A narrative that resonates well with a traditional burnley fan for sure and despite these things all being true -I think it did harm us at times. I did however enjoy us getting some pleasure out of ruining the other teams day with the way we played so I know there were good times as a result.

It's hard to lose the players we have and have confidence that everything will be OK. No one can say that. However, I could be wrong but it feels like some of the narrative about us will change because of the level of change that is taking place and the opportunity to bring a new era that we can start to enjoy and whilst previous era will have very fond memories we can all get behind the lads and go on another adventure over the comings seasons.

Like all fans, we want to enjoy our time supporting the club. There will still be the highs and low times ahead but I am all in for the season ahead.

From the video above, seems to have played left back a lot.
He's the Brazilian Joao Cancelo

I asked my friend from Brazil to describe what sort of player he is. He simply replied:

"A Steve Kindon do Brasil"

Interesting that he said he had to improve the defensive side of his game when he came to Europe but that he's matured and feels ready for the championship.

Indeed, his English is good which will clearly help. I love the fact he described himself as "very fast with Brazilian technique" !

Except that our own players may be as surprised as the opposition!

I wonder if we'll set a club record for number of league debutants in one match? (Apart from 8th September 1888, when we had 11!)

Hi CT, so long as Vincent Kompany knows him, that's all that matters.

Can I suggest a small edit to your article. Vitinho joins from Cercle Brugge, not Club Brugge. Brugge is a wonder little city for a w/end break. Who knew they had to clubs? I didn't.

UTC
They share the same ground at St andries. One end is the cercle home end and the other belongs to that other lot.
I've seen them a few times but never seen club brugge other than on TV. It always felt a bit like watching Notts County, or possibly man city when they were ****. Not that good as a team but carrying the moral high ground.

The other big difference being he was able to do this because he was playing against defenders playing at league one or two (or lower) standard and not against some of the best players in the world like Dwight has had to in the last few years.

Point still stands though, would the player only be able to use one foot against better players?

Nope - I’m suggesting that he’d be able to use neither feet as it’s pretty unlikely he’d be on the same pitch against the level of players Dwight has been regularly playing against.
It’s like comparing me to Dwight because I’m 2 footed and made a few assists at 5 a side with my mates.

True. There aren’t many footballers who don’t have two feet (which they use for walking) though, which is what bipedal means.

The word you were looking for is ambipedal.

Nope I’ve never been selected in a provisional World Cup squad 4 years ago.
But I do have in common that I never made a World Cup squad 4 years ago.

Let’s not pretend that 99% of us had ever heard of him up until a couple of days ago or even knew that Bruges had a second club.
He might be brilliant for all we know….but it appears from the quality of team he is playing for that his career has not progressed that much in 4 years. Hopefully he can develop for us though.

The bit I don’t get though are the digs at Dwight and the very large leap of faith that Vitinho is going to be more productive for Burnley than Dwight has because of a few you tube clubs when as fans we have seen McNeil come through for the under 23s and be a really good news story for us playing in the best league in the world.

I might be wrong but he was closer to making the World Cup squad than you.

Anyway, I just think it’s daft to suggest that someone suddenly wouldn’t be two footed because they are playing against beater players. I’d accept that they may not be as effective with those two feet as they would be against lesser players but the point made was more specific than that.

Tend to agree about the digs at Dwight but then that’s what happens when players move on.

He wasn't, he was one of six players the U20 manager asked to be included in a senior squad training camp, still a decent feather in his cap but not the same he'd played 1 career game at the time.

For CT's information ;) : 23 year ole, can play either side as he has both a good left and right peg

Cercle (Monaco) paid 2 M € for him to Cruzeiro

Quick and nimble player, obviously technically gifted as a Brazilian, forward thinking player but sometimes lacks end product (as does Roberts by the way).

Not a bad signing at all I'd say
Thank you very much, Belgian.

I apologise because you must have already answered this question but what's your opinion of Cullen, Bastien and the other Belgian-based players we've been linked with?

Many thanks!

Doesn’t sound like he was that close at all.
I think you are right to a degree to be honest about being 2 footed. It’s a good quality to have at any level and a lot of players do not have this.
But this lad does not sound like he has played anywhere near the level of standard that Dwight has these last few years and being 2 footed at a much lower level is just nowhere near as important as performing how Dwight has with one very good foot in the last 3 years or so. And then people throwing in his assist stats in a season where we made so few chances and so few of our attacking players performed is again disrespectful to what he achieved for us.

As said I hope the new lad is brilliant for us and I’d be happy if he ends up half as good as Dwight was

Hi ecc, apologies accepted 😜

Some of you might remember that I was an advocate to bring in more European (a.o. Belgian based) players since our success season with Defour. I’m sure that with a little more investment to complement our British core we’d never be in the position we are today.

Nowadays it sometimes looks like we have nowhere else to shop, and I fear we’ll lack an experienced and hardened British defensive backbone.

Anyhow, to answer your question I think Cullen will prove a useful player to complement Cork & Brownhill, but he’s not (yet) of the ilk of players like Defour or Barton who really could take the reigns of the team as playmakers.

Bastien on his day is an exciting player who can make things happen. He’ll need some time though to adapt to the physicality and tempo of the championship, as will Vitinho.
The latter can play on either flank, is quite quick and has two good feet. Still needs to add some calmness to his game as he likes to attack and sometimes gets caught in possession. Exciting prospect though.

I’m not too sure about the GK, who I don’t really know, and hope VK will put a lot of emphasis on a strong and sound defence, especially as his preferred way of attacking play based on lots of possession could leave us vulnerable against teams looking to hit us on the counter.

Anyhow, very curious and excited for this evening, which will give us all a better incling on the future of our club.

Here’s hoping for the first three points for Vince & the lads!

Many thanks, Belgian! Always a totally reliable and all-round top lad.

You were right about bringing in more European players. We didn't and the past is the past.

Agree with you too about needing a solid British backbone. We were all hoping for Ben and Collins (or at least of one them) to be the "rock". However, these two City lads might prove to be up to it. I know nothing about Hendry but VK seems keen on getting him in.

The major worry for me is up front and a lack of width. We absolutely must sign another striker but VK knows that and I'm confident he'll find a solution.

I believe I'll be able to watch it on TV tonight (not totally sure with the TV schedules). Would love to see these new lads.

I just hope our fans will be patient. :?

Many thanks once again! Enjoy the match
