Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Bobby Thomas will go out on loan. Good to see Benson in as well.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Also worth mentioning he said any area of the pitch we aren’t doubled up in, we’ll be targeting to recruit. Clearly a striker falls in that category…

Not officially but it now looks very, very likely following what VK said about him.claretandy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:50 pmBenson confirmed...

Love the fact hes so open and honest. Confirms we gonna keep trying to sign players until we have at least 2 in each position

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
You forget that in all probability, he only signed for us BECAUSE we gave him a release clause. So the idea that Alan Pace should know better is rather churlish.forzagranata wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 12:29 pmGiven the very small profit made on a player who has now had a season of PL football and a decent scoring record maybe Alan has learnt his lesson and won't be including 'release clauses' in future contracts. It makes no sense to limit the possible sell-on value of a player in that fashion.
It will be sad to see Max go, but I would rather we had him with that release clause, than not have had him at all.
We also don't know if any of our new signings have release clauses, only time will tell.

I usually can't be bear press conferences because of the questions the journos ask like "how important is it to get a striker in?", but I'm finding Kompany's to be compulsive listening to far despite the journos. He always comes up with answers full of real honesty and insight.
Pleasing to see him be so open about Benson signing soon and Thomas looking to go out on loan for the season.

Hopefully the next ones, Gordaleman. 64th season coming up for me and I'm trying to be patient but not a strong point of mine.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:19 pmI'm chilled, and far more patient than most people. It's just that I've been a Burnley fan for 70 years now and I'm eager to get Benson announced, so we can move on to the next one.

It was Slobodan Tedic (Man City youngster). He’s signed for Barnsley, but a popular Twitter account reported it as us.

Hello Forza.
The likes of Trippier (back in the day) or Cornet, or even Collins, don't sign / re-sign without such clauses.
We are a magnificent, but medium sized club, and thus face challenges on occasions getting excellent players over the line who long term back themselves to go onto bigger and better things.
UTC
You're right IMHO when saying a lot of players who are hesitant about signing insist on such clauses being inserted. Cornet, in my opinion, didn't really want to come but Lyon needed him gone.
Then there's Haaland whose contracts are made up of 30 pages...

Dharmesh Sheth from Sky
West Ham United have agreed a deal with Burnley for the signing of Mawel Cornet. West Ham have met £17.5m release clause. Cornet travelling to London tonight for a medical.

Sky bet now shortened odds on Cornet going to West Ham by deadline day to 1/10 from 1/3 a couple of hours ago.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Andy Jones now reporting deal agreed
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
It’s a good deal all around really. Decent fee for us (sounds like we’ve held firm on the clause too), good move for the player and I think it’s a top signing for West Ham - he’ll suit their system far better than our static 4-4-2 last season.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Agreed. The suggestions are that for the release clause to be met it needed to be payed up front as well, so that will massively help cash flow and our ability to bring a few more in now.
I also agree with you that he'll suit West Ham. I imagine he'll be played on the left of the 4231 they use, which will surely get the best out of him starting wide and coming inside.

Certainly taking a long time for them to confirm it. Does make you wonder if we are still in for him.

Kompany did say something about the press conference having come 24 hours too early when talking about Cornet which implies he’ll probably be gone by this time tomorrow.

Good luck to him - scored some super goals but there are still doubts about his all round game. I hope he does well and manages to adapt to the PL.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
That’s the assumption & it’s mindful despite MC input & influence it still wasn’t enough & on the basis that WW failed when another striker could have been signed which could have made a significant difference thus negating the need to sell him in the first place could offer a slightly different but important way of viewing things. So it’s fair to say on that front with hindsight of course that things could have transpired far differently. We are we are swings & roundabouts.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:54 pmYou forget that in all probability, he only signed for us BECAUSE we gave him a release clause. Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I’d say two strikers and another attacking midfielder (right footed).
Maybe a centre half

Pace needs to learn quickly how the football business works - its as simple as that.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:54 pmYou forget that in all probability, he only signed for us BECAUSE we gave him a release clause. So the idea that Alan Pace should know better is rather churlish.
It will be sad to see Max go, but I would rather we had him with that release clause, than not have had him at all.
We also don't know if any of our new signings have release clauses, only time will tell.
Brighton signed Cucurelli for £16 million from Getafe last summer. One good season in the Premier League and they are selling him for more than £50 million to Chelsea or City. £34 million profit for a left-back with 12 months PL experience.
I take the point that the clause may have been added to secure the deal - but it was still a choice and it seems we are just weak when it comes to dealing with agents, clubs and players.
We 'had to' sell Nick Pope on the cheap because 'he wanted to leave' etc. Same with McNeil. Well Cucurelli wanted to go to City but Brighton have persuaded him to go to Chelsea - no doubt to their own benefit.
We now have a £12 million asset - purchased just in January - playing in the Turkish league where the risk is that his value could plummet even further.
The only decent bit of selling done this year was Collins - sold for a £9 million profit after one season.
Thankfully it appears that the recruiting side of things has been handed to Kompany and his people- and hopefully Benson turns out to be as good, if not better, than Cornet.
