I would agree would love to sign him permanently, but he might just be good enough to make the Chelsea squad next year.warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:01 pmIf there is any chance would love to see us sign Maatsen before the window closes if thats possible. I have watched the Huddersfield game twice and he was immense in every aspect of his game. I can see him being one of the stand out players for us, and his value dramatically shooting up. I'm not sure why that is being brought up though? I asked which foreign youngsters Pace signed with Dyche here. I'm not sure why you get so touchy and aggressive when asked to expand upon your point and faced with a simple question.
I can say Collins and Cornet, but ultimately it won't matter because you're grinding your axe for all its worth lately.
WW gets a mention because it just highlights how you're not as clued up as you claim

They've just splashed out on the Brighton left back on a 6 year deal I think, so you'd imagine they see him as the future.AshevilleNCClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:31 pmI would agree would love to sign him permanently, but he might just be good enough to make the Chelsea squad next year.
If we don't go back up though, from the early signs, we'll surely see him playing Premier League football next year one way or the other.

He definitely has a future in the PL: I just hope it is with us.

Spot on, that is what I’m expecting.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:29 pmYou’re basically anticipating others will try to Burnley us
If we keep the ball well enough (as we did vs Hudds), this should be nothing to worry about really.
To score from high balls you need the ball in the first place, then accurate delivery (less likely in the Championship), then a great finish to beat a keeper with a header. I’m not too bothered about it if we can retain possession & protect well against set pieces/corners.
Teams have tried to “out-football” this division before. It works for some. It doesn’t for others. But we can be sure every team has a weakness, us included. I suspect ours will be that physicality hence why I want one or two beasts in addition to what we have now. Finding one of those who is good on the ball won’t be easy.
But yes, as you allude to a possession approach is exciting if we can do it, though we stormed this division last time with a very different style.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
If we do as well as we are all hoping, it will be interesting to compare the side with the 15/16 team. I suspect that side would be the superior one. Much as I want the new team to play good football, I worry about the defence.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 4:00 pmSpot on, that is what I’m expecting.

If the structure is all of the Cornet money up front but we have 3 x 3 payments to Lyon it gives us a lot more wriggle room. Of course, there's no saying what the nuances of the deal is (both Cornet to us from Lyon and Cornet to West Ham) although it seems like we wanted more up front from West Ham.
Good deal either way.

We already have that big, physical presence in Kevin Long. Not that I expect him getting anywhere near a VK side. Far better player than a lot on here will give him respect for and that was playing in the PL.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 4:00 pmTeams have tried to “out-football” this division before. Didn't do anything the last few seasons and was probably on a very high wage.

Hit double figures for Palace just twice in the PL in 6 seasons, the other 4 seasons he scored 4 league goals or less.
Absolutely shocking for that amount of financial outlay

" There is not only Burnley, who aim to immediately return to the Premier League after last year's relegation, on the trail of Yann Karamoh, who returned to Parma after his loan to Fatih Karagümrük in Turkey. According to reports from L'Equipe, the attacking winger born in 1998 would have ended up in the crosshairs of the French of Nantes and a couple of Spanish clubs such as Cadiz and Espanyol."

Seems he was all set for Sheffield United last summer but they couldn't get a work permit, can't see what would have changed on that front.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Yet the pre match presser he said look at any positions which aren’t doubled up and that’s where we are targeting. He had two strikers on loan in his past 2 seasons at Anderlecht who both were key players in the respective sides. Has to be a priority surely, particularly with Jay and Twine out.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 8:42 pmKompany played down the need for a striker in his Radio Lancs interview.

The Goals For column and our position in the League Table at the season's end will determine whether that is a miscalculation on his part or not.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Probably playing it down so we don't appear desperate, as other clubs will just put their price tags up!

Not sure of the logic there. If we bid for a striker from a club, will the price be lower because Kompany has played down the need for one, despite placing a bid?

We’ve been linked with numerous strikers. Muleka we pushed hard for.
We’ll get a striker or two in yet, of that I have no doubt.
