So slow
We move the ball so slowly at the back, it gives the opposition all day to move across. And 4 central midfielders leaves us lacking out wide. Effort is top notch and we keep the ball well. But we must move it quicker.

This is what people wished for get rid of dychey and then we can’t win a game in the championship.Least with dyche we walloped teams in this league be very careful what you wish for-we look like Man City in two thirds of the pitch the top third is crap.

Re: So slow
The few occasions we moved it at pace we got round the back of them (I.e, the goal). This has been a persistent issue since Luton, very pedestrian when in possession (which we basically always are). When you have as much of the ball as we do, you should be creating better quality chances, but it’s eye of the needle stuff being required.
The key positions that are not delivering currently are the dual attacking midfielders sitting behind Rodriguez/Barnes. Brownhill has been very good this season, but I’m unconvinced he has the craft or guile for that role - he’s an 8, not a 10. Bastien likewise looks a bit lost there despite good moments. You just feel Twine is the key man here and it’s such a shame he hasn’t been fit from the get go as I am convinced we’d have more points if he was.

I don’t understand Brownhill’s positioning for large parts of the game. He’s not finding enough space between their defence and midfield. Too often, there were four of our forwards level with their back line.
We need someone to operate between the lines, operate in tight spaces, using the ball quickly and incisively.
Whichever wingers we play at the moment, they’re regularly playing back, which is fine to retain possession but with a proper playmaker in the middle, I think it would help to bring the wingers into the game from an attacking sense.
It’s a funny one because for all Brownhill has done OK, I don’t think he’s delivering what we need in that position.

Don’t disagree - clear why we should have bought O’Hare and could do with Twine being fit. In those tight spaces you need real incisiveness to receive the ball on the half turn and then good quality to look forward. I’ve liked Brownhill further forward though and perhaps would look better when he’s got that type next to him - Bastien isn’t the one in that role either.DCWat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 10:12 pmI don’t understand Brownhill’s positioning for large parts of the game. Re: So slow
We created danger when passing the ball quickly through the lines.
The longer the game lasted, the deeper Hull stayed making the gaps smaller.
Still we had more than enough chances to win the game...again...

Re: So slow
Don't have enough creativity in the last 3rd to be giving away sloppy 1 goal leads to the opposition.
Of course they're going to sit in deeper and ask us to break them down, which we look incapable of doing with any sort of regularity.
We didn't exactly work their GK.
And a major part of the game is set plays, and we look horrendous at them.
They don't look an advantage to us 1 bit.

Re: So slow
To be faster you need quicker thinking players in the final third. At the moment you’ve got Brownhill and Bastien who are more central midfielders being asked to play that role. What you need is the likes of Twine / O’Hare who can play on the half turn, beat a man and see the forward pass quickly.
That will come with Twine returning from injury and possibly new recruits.

Re: So slow
Nowt to do with slow passing (if that's happening), it's all to do with having lightweights in the final third.
The two best crosses of the match came from Maatsen and Taylor. Two defenders, apparently..
Kompany may say that he saw a centre back in Taylor, but even though he's done very well at centre back, I've seen him in the Premier League and he's definitely a left back who could do real damaged in this league with his crosses.
Still loving the energy, movement and possession, but it's getting a bit boring now when we get around the opposition's box.

Re: So slow
4 games in, movement off the ball isn't quite there as we saw with Cork playing the ball out to Vitinho after he'd made a smart run inside. It'll come.
Re: So slow
The lack of patience by some fans on here is staggering. We've won one and drawn 2 so far with a team that barely know each other.
There are some encouraging signs and brilliant prospects, especially the younger ones who in my opinion are doing so well despite the groans when they dare to pass out backwards
We are a million times better to watch than last season so I'll do my best to enjoy this team thrive and really come to life hopefully over the next few weeks.

Re: So slow
Brownhill lacks the technical ability to be a true 10 this was an issue today.
Bigger one for me tho was Taylor's unwillingness to carry the ball into space a la THB and constantly check back. He's a better player than that.

Re: So slow
Missing Taylor on the left for me , his bombing runs, overlaps and crosses especially. He’s an ok CH but a better wing back imo . He’s looked a bit “ handcuffed “
Pretty boring to watch though easier on the eye we’re full of speed movement but unable to unlock defences . Jay improved things and I’d like to see Tella start . We’re getting there

Re: So slow
Three games in a row we've conceded first and have struggled to break teams down, looking slow when they sit back. You'd hope when we get used to playing in this system we'll get better at it.
The one time we scored first we battered Huddersfield.

Re: So slow
We lack a number 10. We need to get someone in who can work in tighter spaces further forwards and who has the ability to create a chance. Cullen has more than enough technical ability to play the passes from further back but we need someone further forward too. That's why we keep getting in good areas but not doing much with the ball imo. A couple of seasons ago City had a very similar problem when De Bruyne missed games.
