But yeah, it's always been disrespectful just like it was 30 years ago. Now because of all this women and equal rights, it's now time for people to complain about this song? Those who disliked it could have been complaining years ago and not jumping on the current bandwagon.
Like others have said the word B*stard is disrespectful to certiain folk.
It'll just get sung more and more

That my friend is stirring bullsh1t. These days younger people use far stronger words than t*ts and f*anny in general conversation. As a friend once commented you are better off hearing that than being deaf. Hope that does not offend the hard of hearing.
Re: Oh Burnley is wonderful….
I just found it funny that 5000 people sang it in full voice today, and some posters think its a small minority

Well I was at the game and the song was sung more than most others, and sang load and proud by the vast majority including 5 lovely looking young ladies a couple of rows in front of me
The song is only offensive to the PC brigade who need to stick to shopping on a Saturday afternoon as they don't belong in a football ground

Makes good reading ... joint top scorers in the League with 11 from 6 games.
Plus we are above the Fiddlers who have lost 3 on the bounce

Do you mean Temptation, rather than Everything's Gone Green? I like your lyrics fwiw but "lamb pies", really? Meat, cheese and pork, surely?!timshorts wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 9:06 pmI don't like either version. Just leave the song/tune to the Scummers who sort of own it. The stealing of other teams pet songs is sort of pathetic. Like hearing Chelsea fans singing Blaydon races when most of them have never been that far north or know where Blaydon is.
If we are going to do that, we could just take the **** out of ourselves and others by singing something totally daft
"oh burnely is fu**ing woke... etc..
It's full of hummus, tofu and liberals"
Would confuse everybody.
One of Merthyr's best ideas was to have a mascot called "Shaggy the sheep". we know what we are.
Shaggy is now retired, but it was funny while it lasted - including in the annual mascot Olympics.
So we just need to find something that is our usp and adapt songs to fit:-
To new orders "Everything's gone green"
Oh we've got beef pies, oh we've got lamb pies, oh we've got pork pies... But we've never seen anything like kompany before. Up down all around, pass the ball all round the ground. Tonight I think we'll take you down.
We'll get three points before we go home.
Which will make no sense unless you know the song. It was just an example.
Or the rather simpler "Pies. Pies, baby".
Finding songs that you can substitute "Mills" for and have it still make sense is tougher.

Starting taking my daughter on the turf when she was 4.
At 20 today she was singing it.
ITS A SONG.
If it upset you don’t go and stay at home washing your car.

The monkey chant and the Burnley is wonderful chant are both discriminatory chants. One is racial discrimination and one is sexual discrimination. It's like the defenders of this chant are arguing that sexual discrimination is acceptable. Why is sexual discrimination acceptable?

Re: Oh Burnley is wonderful….
As a young female Burnley fan I thought I'd just chime in here (I haven't skimmed the whole thread to see if any other women have commented, but I can't imagine there are many)
I was at the Watford game a couple of weeks ago and despite the loss I had a great time, since I don't live in Burnley, and so I am not at many matches in person.
Every time 'Oh Burnley is Wonderful' started up I would sing along, since I wanted to include myself and sing all of the chants with the rest of the fans.
However, every time the "t*ts f*nny and clarets" line comes up, I would mumble rather than sing full-pelt, or just stop altogether - because in my opinion it's a pretty lame, outdated line, and I feel a bit embarrassed singing it especially as a female supporter.
I also noticed that the line itself seems to be the quietest part of the chant, perhaps as other people who think the same way as me also sing it less enthusiastically.
Just because you hear people singing along, doesn't mean they're wholeheartedly endorsing the song. I want to support the club and sing as loudly as I can, so yes, I sing along to *most* of the song.
That doesn't change the fact that it's terrible, outdated and that we should update the lyrics - especially if it's causing fans to sing more quietly than they want to
