Advertising Neon Lights !!!
Morning everyone,
First of all i have to say that living in Surrey and driving up here to watch my heros is a long 250 mile drive and the same going home, however Burnley is the place where my roots are planted and i am also very proud to say i come from Lancashire, now to cut to the chase as they say, last night i found the neon lighting boards around the pitch and on the stands very irritating and found it hard to watch what was happening on the pitch, the lights were so bright at times that it put spots before my eyes a bit like when someone takes your picture with a powerful flash, if i wanted to see advertising on our scale then i can put ITV on and watch the adverts, why do we have to have double boards advertising, one of the boards should be switched off we dont need telling we are the longside etc, dont they know that energy prices are going through the roof, i travel to watch the match, not to be distracted by the adverts around the pitch, opinions anyone ?.

Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
I sit in JHU Upper and once the game starts I 'tune out' the distractions and don't notice them in all honesty. Obviously it may be different for people sitting lower down.
I think if you have it in your mind, it will become a distraction.

Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
Once the game kicks off I don’t notice them.
Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
They tend to disappear after a while if you attend regularly ... but yes they are annoying at times (night matches more so).
But if they bring extra revenue in then I suppose they are becoming a necessary evil.

Can't say they detract from the game for me to be fair. They seem to
disappear when the game starts.
disappear when the game starts.
Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
Mick. I’ve heard of people struggling with those neon lights. Please don’t take this the wrong way but it’s worth getting your eyes tested, you might need some glasses that help with different light.

The announcements “We are the Longside” and “Goal!” are especially useful. It’s easy to forget who you are meant to be, and for those unfamiliar with the game of association football, they might be asking what is that thing when the ball goes between the white post structure?

Sorry to moan, but iam going to. I am colour blind (CVD) , as are 1 in 12 men. It is so hard to see the ball ans players at times. I accept it's a good income stream but it drives me mad!
Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
They were more entertaining then some of the football last season TBH, as mentioned this season I'm so engrossed in the game I don't really see them.

That’ll be the northern lights you’re referring to, pal. We’re talking neon lights here. Do keep up!NoFixedAbode_Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 7:15 pmSaw them once in Iceland years ago. Beautiful…. Purest green

Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
I don’t have issues, other than some of the ads are very distracting, but you are not the first person I’ve heard who has referenced it being a problem for colour blindness.Awayfromburnley wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 6:49 pmSorry to moan, but iam going to. Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
I totally agree, I find them extremely distracting - much worse in the North stand lower then any other areas of the ground (Alan Pace and the other directors hardly see them in the Bob Lord stand).BurnleyMickSouth wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 10:59 amMorning everyone,

Is there no official Burnley FC fans forum which can put in a formal complaint to the club?
Switch them off during the match and let us enjoy the football!

Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
Can't say I find it distracting myself. I actually think it improves the look of the ground overall, making it look more uniform.Awayfromburnley wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 6:49 pmSorry to moan, but iam going to. But your stat would suggest that over 2000 people at the game on Tuesday would have struggled the same way you have described, unless of course they already avoid going to games. That's quite a number of people potentially impacted by it.
Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
Thing is there are varying degrees of colour blindness and for the majority of those 1 in 12 men it won’t be a big issue (and I speak as one of the 1 in 12 myself). My colour blindness is fairly mild and the lights don’t impact me one bit, in fact like you I think they improve the look of the ground. There’s zero chance of them being switched off during the game as that’s the time the tv cameras are pointing at them and how the advertisers get the coverage they pay for.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 10:54 amCan't say I find it distracting myself. Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
It would be interesting to know how much the club receives for the ‘Blackpool illuminations/Bonfire night’ match advertising distractions.
Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
I "supposedly" have colourblindness, according to the Isihara test I took age 16 when applying for the Rozzers cadets ... and subsequently failed the medical due to it ... I have never had any problem in my life with it.martin_p wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:00 amThing is there are varying degrees of colour blindness and for the majority of those 1 in 12 men it won’t be a big issue (and I speak as one of the 1 in 12 myself). The Doctor who did the medical was a complete b'stard and made me feel like my life was worth **** because I couldn't see the numbers (or lack of them) in the coloured dots and failed with a 40% pass rate ... The doc told me to say what numbers I could see, so I was looking for numbers and thought there were numbers on each page, so if I couldn't make out a number instead of saying "nothing there" I made up a number
Have done a "Isihara test" since and pass with an 85% rate, so probably are slightly colour blind but hey ho and away we go.
Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
Brightness might be an issue. The intensity needed in daylight needs to be high but could be toned down for night games. I do not have problems with it but have clear memories of a night game at Bolton a few years ago. They certainly distracted but as we won 1-0 went away happy.
Re: Advertising Neon Lights !!!
You have to think the Flashing Lights strobe effect of some of the adverts are actually breaking rules, surely a warning should be given that they might affect people attending with epilepsy (or a similar condition) affected by strobe/flashing lights ... like they do with programs on the tellybox
