Haaland joins City
Re: Haaland joins City
Now City have reportedly bid £60million for Calvin Phillips. I suppose their season tickets must cost sbout £25k each and they woukd be the concession ones.

Re: Haaland joins City
TBF you split the fee over the course of the contract, hence you now see 5yr deals as the relative norm for younger players at least. Added to this, any younger prospect they sell on shows up as pure profit, so alongside chunk sponsorships, its not hard to abide by the rules as they are. Especially if Gabriel Jesus goes for a decent fee

I don't disagree, on quality out of the two I think Haaland is much the better player, but in terms of player roles, I think Nunez is more suited to Liverpool than Haaland is for City, unless Pep can coach him into playing a different way.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 3:13 pmHaaland is a ridiculous player, you only have to look at his goal yesterday to see how explosive his power is. It’s a total joke. Either have some rules about how can much money be laid out by clubs or just allow them to spend what they want.

£60 million for Phillips!
Pep’s forgotten more about football than I will ever know. I still think he’s off his tits if he thinks Phillips is good enough for the top level.

He could struggle this season. He wouldn’t be the first player to tear it up in the German league then flop in the PL.

Have a City friend at work and made a little bet with him that Nunez will score more Premier League goals than Haaland this year, not to say he is better than Haaland but the Liverpool system is so much more suited for Nunez than the City system is for Haaland.

Haaland just popped in his 9th goal of the season before the end of August. It took Kane until March 7th last season to reach that total.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 8:28 pmHe will show Kane up for what he is. 9 goals Haaland has to his name, and we are still in August, that's absolutely insane numbers. And he hasn't even played every minute of City's games.

187 goals in 283 games for spurs
50 goals in 70 games for England
And that’s without including his assists, which does him a disservice because he’s a great playmaker.
Most teams & managers in the world would snap your hand off to take him

Harry Kane would be bang average against teams of 20 years ago when football was littered with genuine word class players. Saying that, you can only be as good as the era you play in, but the threshold of what it takes to be world class today is definitely lower in my opinion. The overall quality of the game isn’t as good but the physical levels of players are better.
Re: Haaland joins City
This season, as in summer ?

Looks more built for this league, not like others that have come from Germany then flopped.
I can believe ( well I can ) people were writing him off after 1 miss in the charity shield

Just loling @ Kane would be bang average, 20 years ago Beattie was the 3rd highest goal scorer in the PL.
Kane not up to James’ level? Alright then…
Re: Haaland joins City
Kane would certainly not be bang average 20 years ago because he's a world class player now, would be back then and it's wrong to say that the quality then was better.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 7:37 amHarry Kane would be bang average against teams of 20 years ago when football was littered with genuine word class players. Re: Haaland joins City
Kane's footballing ability (putting aside his outstanding goal statistics over a long number of years, both at club and international level) is exceptional. Some of his assists in the last two years, dropping into that deeper role, have been De Bruyne-esque. I think that he should absolutely be mentioned on the same pedestal as the likes of Mbappe, Haaland, Lewandowski personally as he has facets to his play which are better than all three (albeit, they have the edge in other areas, pace, strength etc).

Re: Haaland joins City
A bang average striker 20 years ago is someone like Kevin Campbell (10 goals in 2002-3) or Dion Dublin (10 goals). Harry Kane is lightyears ahead of that calibre of playergandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 7:37 amHarry Kane would be bang average against teams of 20 years ago when football was littered with genuine word class players. Re: Haaland joins City
Why is it wrong to say the quality back then was better. The levels of fitness may not have been as high as now but that era was littered with world class ability and the standard of defending much better than now. He wouldn’t be hitting those numbers against defenders 20 years ago. It’s all about opinions obviously and others disagree, that’s fine.
Re: Haaland joins City
I totally disagree that defenders of 20 years ago were much better. The broader skillset of today's defenders is more developed in my view. You are right it's down to opinion, however I doubt many people would think that Kane would be bang average in that era - it's a baseless thing to conclude.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 7:01 pmWhy is it wrong to say the quality back then was better. They may be able to pass it and control it a bit better, but overall the defenders need to be able to defend, and a lot can’t. Look at Maguire for example, you seriously think he would be in a United team of Ferdinand, vidic or going back further jaap stam?taio wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 7:11 pmI totally disagree that defenders of 20 years ago were much better. Re: Haaland joins City
It's always possible to cherry pick extreme examples to support your viewpoint. I could say James Beattie and Marcus Stewart scored loads of goals in a season 20 or so years ago against, apparently, much better defenders. Would they have been better than Kane? No. It's bizarre saying Kane would've been bang average 20 years ago.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 7:35 pmThey may be able to pass it and control it a bit better, but overall the defenders need to be able to defend, and a lot can’t.
