Re: Vincent’s errors…
Taking Jay off to “protect” him for future games is incorrect. He was out on his feet. Would love to see his and Cork’s performance stats. There was a point where he was literally arms on knees puffing and panting

I can't be the only one who thinks that Bastien is a very capable footballer and midfielder.
Obviously it's very hindsight based, but he should be starting in a 3rd game in a week. Cork was really poor which was very unlike him.

I really like him and feel he’d be fine in the double pivot (Cork’s role).

Re: Vincent’s errors…
Remember Grezza having an even worse game at Doncaster than Cork had last night.
So he'll be okay I'm sure after a rest.

I actually disagree, when Maatsen went off they absolutely killed us down our left hand side.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 9:08 amI’m absolutely convinced that JBG was the right decision.
The one decision I would question was Maatsen back at left back for Vitinho. Vitinho is a better defender and is significantly stronger in that position than he is on the right side.
Vitinho would have foiled the threat form the right side from Wallace far more effectively.
That said, if Roberts boots one final ball away, I imagine we’re all thinking it’s a fine away performance against one of the title favourites away from home.
Re: Vincent’s errors…
VK seems totally against using Bastien next to Cullen, keeps using him further forward. VK must know something, I'm not convinced Bastien is an attacking player though.

We were on the ropes first half, I thought in the 2nd half until Maatsen went off we were 2nd best but not hanging on. Maatsen went off and they bombarded our left hand side, cross after cross and not many being blocked.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 8:11 pmIn the second half they were better than us all over the pitch.

Played there against Shrewsbury but yeah not in the league yet. I’m wondering if, when Twine and Zaroury are fit and in the squad, that would push Bastien down the pecking order in that attacking role.

Re: Vincent’s errors…
I suspect the reason Bastien went wide was no more complex than that Brownhill had the pace of the game. He's a central midfielder but generally Kompany trusts Bastien to protect the full back from that wide area.
I thought the subs were fine last night and the only thing Kompany might wish he'd done differently is starting Mastsen instead of Vitinho with JBG on the right side.

I suppose it's all down to how we see it as individuals.
I thought we dealt with them (generally) better in the first half despite their early attacks.
2nd half I thought we lost control.

We have a week off to work on some things on the training ground but the big week (or two) comes after the Bristol City game. The only issue is the players leaving on full international and under 21's duty.

Re: Vincent’s errors…
I think the main issue is trying to shoehorn Roberts and Taylor into the Wide Centre Back role.
Roberts especially is just not suited to that role as he's not robust enough defensively. We saw that with his miss-clearance that led to their goal.
He also isn't good enough in the air which puts pressure on us when teams play more direct.
Taylor isn't as bad, but still is weak in that position.
I think Kompany has already seen Roberts as the weak link in that position which is why we now have 3 other players who can play there in Egan-Riley, Beyer and McNally.
I don't think it will be long before he's dropped.
It's a shame because I don't think it's Roberts' fault. He would be far more suited to a more advance role, but perhaps as a player just doesn't fit this system. He's much more of a 3-5-2/5-3-2 wingback.
I also think his performance is very closely linked to whoever is ahead of him. If the right midfielder ahead does not have a good game, or does not track back enough then he suffers more.
