For the slightly younger ex Longsiders amongst us their first song might have been “your going home in a f@cking ambulance”.
They were rough times in the early 70’s.
“Come and av a go if yer f’in ard enough!”
“You’ll never make the station….!”
“My old Man said be a Burnley fan…..!”
Day after I’d tell my schoolmates how brill we’d been with my satin scarf still tied round my wrist! Brave when there was a big fence there!

Who Remembers this, it came to me from out the blue a few days ago.
Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly
Have you heard of the North Bank Highbury
Shanks said no, I don’t think so
But I’ve heard of the Longside, Burnley.
There was also an extremely racist one about the Stretford End but for those of a sensitive nature I’ll not reproduce it here.

There was also the immortal:
You’ll never take the Longside.
A feat accomplished on numerous occasions by visiting fans I recall.

The only clubs that I can recall "taking the Longside" were Man Utd, Liverpool and Everton, and one year Wolves actually took it in an FA Cup tie. Big city clubs with much larger support than us.
I stand to be corrected of course.

First I can really remember is the “whenever you’re sad, whenever you’re blue…” mentioned before - based on “Just like Eddie”, Heinz’s tribute to Eddie Cochran.
Another which I don’t think has been mentioned is-
“He’s here, he’s there, he’s every f***ing where, Ralphy Coates, Ralphy Coates.”, repeated ad infinitum.

Correct. Wolves was in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. The week after, they played us in the league. Burnley got there early and as Wolves arrived Burnley chanted: we took the Longside. The Wolves fans thought they had done it again and ran across the Bee Hole End. When they got to within about twenty yards, the Burnley fans charged them and chased them back out. The Wolves takeoever in the cup had been a surprise. They simply got there first with big numbers. Another two clubs who managed to take it, once each: Man City and Leeds. And no one else.

City also. The Wolves one was a shocker. Someone told me that day before I got in not to bother with the Longside. Must admit it was a bloody impressive sight though.
I think that Celtic might have done too but for the fences by then. Even then they tried.
