Stu Allan
I'm sure there were many of you on here that listened to him on the radio or danced at many of the events he played at over the years. He sadly lost his battle against cancer today, incredibly sad news to lose a hero and a mate at the same time. RIP Stu

Re: Stu Allan
Sad to hear that news and sorry for the loss of your friend, Vegas.
I must admit, I haven’t heard him on the radio but have fond memories of nights out when a real youngster, with Stu Allan playing. If I remember rightly, he used to play regularly at ARK and other nights in and around Leeds.
In fact, I think his might have been one of the very first mix tapes that I had - possibly with Nippa. It’ll be in a box somewhere though unfortunately I’ve nothing to play it on anymore.
Might have to try and find it and get it converted.
RIP

Very sad news. I, along with many others around Burnley, saw Stu quite regularly at Angels...
Living up Harle Syke, I could pick up his show on Key 103 when the weather allowed it... I was the envy of my friends at the time!
I remember getting a shout from him on the Sunday night show, after passing him a note at Angels one Saturday.
Great times.

I used to make a TV programme called BPM, he was a regular on there and was a top man. Smashed the Angels many times.

His Key103 show was like Sunday night Mass. Tapes were like currency at our school.
I didn't know Stu but I know a lot of people who did and they speak only in glowing terms. A sad loss indeed.

Re: Stu Allan
He was in the pilot of BPM from the Angels and then did a video diary of a weekend in the life of Stu Allan for show 1. Great bloke and top DJ
Re: Stu Allan
I used to enjoy BPM - it’d be a regular watch when coming back from the pub if I wasn’t at a club myself.
Perhaps it’s just because I’m older now but it seems that the halcyon days of clubs, when there were tonnes of events at weekends and plenty of midweek ones too, if you fancied it, seem to be a thing of the past.
There are still club nights of course but I’m not sure we will ever see the like of the nineties / early noughties again.
I miss the days of having to search like hell to find vinyls of songs heard out and about. Nowadays most of the stuff I hear I can Shazam and have it downloaded in five minutes!
Different world and not all for the better.

ah that's right, he went to do his remix of Visa 'Let me see you move' if memory serves me well (which I still have, the record not the memory!)

100% spot on sadly. However, check out some of the breaks music nights in Spain - it's like watching us in the early 90's, atmosphere is immenseDCWat wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 5:28 pmI used to enjoy BPM - it’d be a regular watch when coming back from the pub if I wasn’t at a club myself.

They were very exciting times when dance music seemed to be evolving every week, probably my age but things seem to have stagnated and the music has become very commercialDCWat wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 5:28 pmI used to enjoy BPM - it’d be a regular watch when coming back from the pub if I wasn’t at a club myself.

Re: Stu Allan
Definitely, if you want to go clubbing now you pretty much have to venture to Manchester or Leeds. When I was really into it from the early noughties to about 2010 there was something going on every weekend, even Burnley had plenty going on. Fusion/XS was pretty good for a while, particularly when Kev Riley had it. Sad to see what's become of the nightlife in Burnley.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 5:28 pmI used to enjoy BPM - it’d be a regular watch when coming back from the pub if I wasn’t at a club myself.

Re: Stu Allan
No doubt Burnley is not what it was even 10 years ago.
There are still nights being out on, there’s quite an interesting one with some young lads/lasses in a few weeks, sure there are mor i/we aren’t aware of.
Then there are random ones, walked into a do with Mark XTC on the other week , a night Stu Allan played fairly regularly over the years

Re: Stu Allan
Angels used to get people from all over back in the day. We’d travel over from West Yorkshire for some of the nights - Carl Cox and various other big names.jrgbfc wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 9:41 amDefinitely, if you want to go clubbing now you pretty much have to venture to Manchester or Leeds. Re: Stu Allan
Class myself as a reborn raver. started 1989-1993 then gave it up as your life evolved in other directions, In my raving days I lived the lifestyle to the full. Starting on a Friday and finishing sometime on a Sunday. Many a time waking up somewhere random at some house in a different town or county with no way of getting home.
Went to a reunion about 4 years ago and had a great time, now go out every 1-2 months. I pick my events wisely, I want to go to places were the crowd are mainly in their 40-50's who were there during the 90's. Never seen any trouble or fights in the 4 years really friendly bunch of people just like then. I have been to younger events but feel old and out of place, plus a lot of the younger ones are walking around coked up and that definitely spoils the vibe. We might look like a bunch of old sad acts trying to relive our youth but for the night I am back in my early 20's again although the day after I feel like I am in my 80's especially with a step count of 40K+

Re: Stu Allan
Find the young ones on Special K more of a vibe killer to be honest, happy that minimal isn't as popular as it was a few years ago - adding those together was boring.

Burnley punches above its weight with these type of nights in the main. Moved away a few years back so unsure of current developments but the Dirty Filthy nights 9/10 years ago or so were ace.Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 11:43 amNo doubt Burnley is not what it was even 10 years ago.

Yes they were good in all the venues that they ran in, some of that crowd occasionally put on small nights but no DF for a while, which is shame - sound people behind it.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 7:20 pmBurnley punches above its weight with these type of nights in the main.
