Minute silence
No disrespect, but what was this for today?
Re: Minute silence
We also wondered, there didn’t appear to be any announcement over the tannoy that we were aware of.

It’s the way forward, don’t say what it’s for, everyone respects it (just in case!) and jobs done!!
Re: Minute silence
I assumed it was for what happened in Indonesia. But yeah it was bizarre that there was no announcement over the PA or anything.

Maybe look deeper into westernised media and pay attention to world wide problems. Over 150 people died in a football tragedy in Indonesia. Children too

I was aware of that tragedy but did not put 2 and 2 together.
Please forgive me.

Completely bizarre wasn't it. I never heard any announcement prior to the minutes silence which was conducted respectfully whilst the advertising boards around the pitch and above the Bob Lord stand blazed and flashed like crazy.
The club really needs to get a grip since this was not well organised at all.

Everyone around me seemed to have no idea. Would have been more respectful if an announcement was made or something on the screens.

No PA announcement, nothing on the screens.
It shows how amateurish many aspects of the club still are.

We also assumed it was about Indonesia ... but strange no mention of it before or after

It's come to the point where we could have a minute's silence before every match.
i'm not sure it would be a bad thing, TBH.

Re: Minute silence
it was arranged for the players to wear black armbands and that was it, but the referee decided to hold a minutes silence - hence why there was no announcement or graphics on the screens. It caught everyone by surprise.
It was impeccably observed though.

100's of us stuck on the stairs that enter the cricketfield from the concourse - no one seemed to have a clue what was going on.
Took a while to realise it was a minute silence - would have been good to know.

Incredible stuff. What’s the point in holding a minutes silence if you don’t know what you’re supposed to be reflecting on?

I’m not able to come to matches but I’m not sure I could enjoy it anymore with those ludicrously distracting flashing screens. Would drive me nuts. It’s the fact they flash that’s my issue, plus often the banal and pointless messages exhorting us to bet or buy crap we don’t need. “We are the longside” “Goal!” ffs what’s the point??Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 11:15 pmI assumed it was for the tragedy in Indonesia?

Also agree the club needs to be more intelligent and organised eg. turning the leds off for the the minutes silence, or at the very least displaying a message as to what the minutes silence is for.

But as CTU has said, the minutes silence wasn’t planned. It came from the refchekhov wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 8:31 amI’m not able to come to matches but I’m not sure I could enjoy it anymore with those ludicrously distracting flashing screens. From what I recall from other times, the screens are either turned off or to black with persons name on

It's fair enough having a minutes silence for Indonesia, but I like everyone else didn't have a clue what it was for. Was there a pre game announcement?

I had no Idea what it was for either. Surprisingly was well observed. It’s almost become the norm to have a minutes silence every week. The only surprise last night was there was no clapping mid game.

There wasn’t due to be one but ref arranged one anyway.

Very very amateurish from the club , a quick announcement would have sufficed . Someone suggested Paris Hilton’s dog .

Re: Minute silence
I think knowing what the minutes silence was for is hardly a whinge at the club. Most people have assumed it was for the Indonesia tragedy but many were unsure if somebody close to the club had died very recently. I also think that turning off the flashing advertising boards would have been more respectful whilst the minute silence was being observed.

Re: Minute silence
It is when the club didn’t know there was going to be a minute silence! They didn’t organise it, at best your complaint should be that whoever is in charge of the advertising screens didn’t realise quickly enough what was going on and take sufficiently quick action to turn them off.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 10:58 amI think knowing what the minutes silence was for is hardly a whinge at the club. Re: Minute silence
I admire your backing of the club, but come on, an announcement. even afterwards, to thank and explain would have been good. And as for not having time to turn the screens off they are quite quick to change them to goal when we score.

I think we'd have known if someone close to the club had died. As you have said it didn't take long for people to realise it was for the Indonesia tragedy especially as it was observed in games earlier in the week.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 10:58 amI think knowing what the minutes silence was for is hardly a whinge at the club. Re: Minute silence
Does the ref arrive in a taxi10 mins before kick off? (Shame he didn't leave in one 10 min before KO)
Surely he could have informed the club of his intention when he arrived and we could have had an announcement; flashing crap off; and understanding for all. Simples?

Re: Minute silence
I doubt the ref made a decision to hold a minute's silence; more likely he (wrongly) believed that one had been arranged.

When you are actually in a football stadium, and 150+ people have lost their lives in a tragedy at a football match that week, it shouldn't be that hard to work out what it is for surely?

Re: Minute silence
Perhaps it was just an experiment to see if a section of the crowd could influence the whole stadium. If that’s the case it worked. However if it was for Indonesia it was disrespectful of the club not to acknowledge it.
I suspect as most that it was for the latter but why do the club expect people to just work things out?

Re: Minute silence
To be honest Lancaster, whilst I was aware of the tragedy, I was utterly confused as to what the minutes silence was for on Wednesday night - as was everyone around me. It just didn't click in my head at all until after the game when I read this thread! As soon as I read it on here I obviously thought 'Bloody Hell, of course it's that'.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 9:18 amWhen you are actually in a football stadium, and 150+ people have lost their lives in a tragedy at a football match that week, it shouldn't be that hard to work out what it is for surely?
Not a case of being ignorant of it at the time, just the fact that the club had put nothing on the screen and there had been no announcement gave the impression that there had perhaps been a mistake or something.

Re: Minute silence
Either people are not reading posts or choosing to ignore them.
CTU has already said, there were no plans to hold a minutes silence.
If there had have been I’m sure the screens & LEDs would have been more appropriate at that moment.

All I'm saying that you have a minute to concentrate on what the minutes silence might be for, and it took us about two seconds to work it out
Clearly badly planned though, and fair play to the ref for deciding to have one
