Just remembering when we were last in this division
And how we'd probably be 6 points clear by now with....
Heaton
Lowton
Keane
Mee
Ward
What happened with their goal?
Every single Burnley defender was AWOL.
Muric doesn't want to be a goalkeeper, he wants to play football out with his mates and windmill fresh air.
Any road, still unbeaten.
(Stop making us think we're brilliant and then throw one of them in, it's not our fault when we get all mental about it)

Kompany changed to get the goal then forgot to change it back. As soon as we scored it should have been Zaroury off and Kev Long on

Last time we were in the division we were playing utterly rubbish at this point and that was without 16 incomings and 14 outgoings in the summer.

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
At this stage in the season we had a back line of Darikwa Duff Keane and Mee (at left back)
At this stage of the season we'd let in 14 goals (1 more than the current team)
At this stage of the season we had 5 more points but was just about to embark on a 6 game run without a win
What we did in the second half of the season last time we was in this division was astounding but for now we aren't that far off and thats following a complete rebuild and a mini fire sale to balance the books

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
After fifteen games we were second.
We had 31 points
BUT
On the flip side, we only had 35 points after 21 games as we drew four and lost two of the next six.
I’d say it’s very much in the balance at this stage.

Yes obviously. Ever since 1968 I've expected us to win every game.roperclaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 10:15 pmBut it is your fault, do you expect us to be brilliant and win every game we play?
It hasn't worked out that way, but I thought this season would be different.

No. Jay Rod was playing OK, KL would have been lost on the left wingVegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 10:20 pmKompany changed to get the goal then forgot to change it back. As soon as we scored it should have been Zaroury off and Kev Long on

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
In 2015/16 after 15 games we had shipped 14 goals and were about to go without a win in the next 5 games. Now we have shipped 13 despite a riskier style.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 10:12 pmAnd how we'd probably be 6 points clear by now with....

We had 31 points then, now we have 26, but as I say we were only going to draw a couple of the next 5 games in 2015/16 so we may overtake that tally.
So no, I don’t think the stats bear out your point, we play an attacking style which is a bit risky, and I don’t know why we get caught upfield when defending a lead late on, but the old players aren’t guaranteed to be more solid.

And the fixtures didn’t start in July and they weren’t suspended for a month for the World Cup.

I think providing the players were available,Vitinho should have played Rb instead of Roberts ,seems much more suited to be playing on the right, think if the players weren’t injured ,he shouldn’t have changed the back 4.

Remembering when we were last in this division… the memory that hits me first is walking through a flooded Hull town centre on Boxing Day after an utterly demoralising 0-3 loss and thinking ‘we are not going up this season’. By comparison, I’m feeling pretty optimistic right now.

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
The way I see it is that along this unbeaten run we have had we have almost never looked remotely close to losing a game. It's frustrating throwing the leads away but we havent had an occasion where we have been behind and fighting to get back into a game late on.
Put simply...We are incredibly difficult to beat.
It's statistically likely that at some point we will get beat but I can't see it being often. We only lost 5 the last time we were here and as it stands I don't see us losing many more than that if even that many. The key is turning the draws into wins.
Birmingham were very hard working and their press was spot on. No shame in a draw tonight.
Barring a total change in form and a big drop off from how we are playing (no sign as yet) we will be right up there mark my words.

Can’t believe a 1-1 draw away at Birmingham has induced so much bed wetting.
Sheff Utd haven’t won in 5, Norwich haven’t won in 4 and have lost their last 3.
We’re drawing when not playing particularly well, instead of losing. That’s a very good indicator of just how good we are.

Think all clubs have moaners and our recent successes have raised expectations across the fan base in general, thus inducing more moaning when not winning.

I don't base my happiness with Burnley performances on where Rovers are in the table, and neither should anyone else
We are clearly playing well, clearly have a good team, and clearly are going to be there or thereabouts

Conceding late on is a problem. I'm not convinced about Muric's ability. He doesn't look that confident to me.
Poor performance last night by our standards. But we remain unbeaten, we are difficult to beat and I'm still optimistic. I think the other teams around us know Burnley are the ones to watch.

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
Annoying as it is to concede another late equaliser we earned a point when nowhere near our best.
And our levels of consistency have to be admired 1 defeat in 15 (16 if you include the cup tie) and that was at a fellow relegated side on a night where we should have won easily.
13 uneaten.
unbeaten at home incidentally the only Championship club to be so.
Scored in 14 of our 15 Championship fixtures.
20 points in our last 10 games carry on at that rate and there's every chance we'll be promoted.
I understand expectations are high given we've just enjoyed 6 successive seasons in the PL, but compared to last time we've had to undertake a massive overhaul in our playing squad plus we've appointed a new management team.
This is a young side who are still developing along with VK as a manager learning his trade and the Championship.
Give them time as they aren't doing too shabbily in the circumstances.

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
After 15 games in 2015/16 we were second then had our worst run of the season but didn't lose a game after boxing day (winning 16 games).
And, of course, yesterday was another 1-1 with us being overrun on our Left.
It's hard to know if we had a bad day at the office or if it was a consequence of us returning to the back four that has earned us a few 1-1s albeit: Vitinho and Maatson are interchangeable. Or, perhaps because the likes of Cork and Rodriguez are stretched playing twice a week.
It's a stunningly poor goal similar to the one Stoke scored in the sense that the whole team is squeezed into the Left hand side of the pitch. The pace at the back is simply not there when the team loses it's shape.
It doesn't feel like we are improving because the goals we conceded have been similar throughout the season.
The frustration has to be mitigated by the fact that we got a point away against a decent side in good form.

I haven't seen much bed wetting, I think many fans on here get easily confused. Fans like to give their input about every individual game after the FT whistle, when I say ''I'm disappointed we were flat tonight, poor performance'' that isn't an attack on the manager/squad/club, that's just my thoughts following an individual game not an opinion on the whole season.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 6:21 amCan’t believe a 1-1 draw away at Birmingham has induced so much bed wetting.

VK himself would be disappointed with that performance last night, I wouldn't consider him bed wetting.

Was massively impressed with the JBG sub and it was a masterclass.
Not sure Kev would’ve stopped that goal, maybe a sitting midfielder - which we don’t have on the bench unfortunately.
In general I like the idea of continuing to attack after conceding and not sitting too deep but do think we have to find ways to shut up shop after goals away from home in the last 15. Given the lack of holding midfielder on the bench at least a Long sub would’ve shown intent to shore up.
More concerning for me is the Beyer/Maatsen knocks. Hope they’re back soon but also disappointed if they’re rotations as I felt Vits at LB was a mistake last night.

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
I think we need another central midfielder, said it for a while now. The bench just doesn't have a Cork/Cullen alternative. Hopefully it can be Westwood but ideally someone who is taller and stronger. Cork and Cullen have been really good for us, and will continue to be so. But with so many games, I think the squad is lacking a bit of muscle and nastiness in the middle. A Gilberto Silva, Patrick Viera sort.
This, and a striker, would be my priorities in January.
Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
Definitely not rotations.
VK confirmed Maatsen has a cut while Beyer was a precaution from something in training, neither serious but didn’t want to risk.

Bastien could have come on for Tella or Jay Rod to sure things up but if VK would have made a defensive change as soon as we scored which then allowed Bham to get on top and grab an equaliser people would now be moaning about us trying to hang on to a lead when we were on top and could have gone in for the kill.Pickles wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 11:27 amI think we need another central midfielder, said it for a while now. My first reaction was get a sub on but I can understand the idea to keep attacking and keep Bham pegged back but it just didnt work and hindsight is a wonderful thing

There is talk about Sheffield United and Norwich and their runs of bad form. But, actually there are two other teams which are currently above us.Talk of losing VK is very premature. If its isn't then Tomasson must be attracting attention too.

Agree with this. Definitely a catch 22. And I’m not sure a sub would’ve stopped a very well worked goal.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 11:41 amBastien could have come on for Tella or Jay Rod to sure things up but if VK would have made a defensive change as soon as we scored which then allowed Bham to get on top and grab an equaliser people would now be moaning about us trying to hang on to a lead when we were on top and could have gone in for the kill.

I don’t want to see us sit deep too early - just wonder whether we now have to accept that at a point in the game (say 80 minutes) if we have a lead we are going to try and defend it/change shape/make defensive subs. And if we concede anyway, take the medicine.
3 points - particularly away from home - are just so precious I wonder whether we should start protecting them more at all costs.

"After fifteen games we were second.
We had 31 points
BUT
On the flip side, we only had 35 points after 21 games as we drew four and lost two of the next six.
I’d say it’s very much in the balance at this stage."

Currently, we have 26 points against 31. If we continue our current form we will have around the same points after 21 games. After that we lost 1, drew 7 and won 16 in 15/16.
I don't think at the moment we look like getting anywhere near that because we are drawing far too many.
I could be wrong but if someone wants to do the math I doubt our current points per game is equal to that we achieved after game 21 in 15/16.
Too many draws.

It's a bit of an outlier because that was the only real blip in the season (after the first couple of games). At the same point we were second and after Boxing day we were unbeaten winning 16 games.

Re: Just remembering when we were last in this division
indeed, it's even worse than the Stoke goal.
CR is almost in the Left third of the pitch with both centre backs in the Left back position. The midfield has completely gone AWOL.
THB just gets lost and CR initially initially makes the right decision to cover Hogan but I think he just isn't quick enough because he just seems to get caught in two minds trying to cover Hogan and his own man but in the end does neither.
It's a stunningly bad goal with 10 minutes to go and the third time it has happened in four games from the same position in almost the same way.
It surely is not negative to point out the self-evident.
