Jeff Hendrick returns
Everytime I’ve seen highlights of Reading this season, he seems heavily involved for them in the final third and he will be undoubtedly playing on Saturday.
Deserves a good reception in my opinion - I think we really missed him and his workrate after he left and could have done with him last season. I type that, however, and think (even though we’re a league lower), blimey, we have upgraded on him.
Boo, clap or shrug? It’s a polite clap from me. A marmite player at Turf Moor but rarely below a 7/10…

I’d not boo him, I’ve no interest at all though, he came to do a job, left for more money and I don’t blame him…jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 8:41 pmEverytime I’ve seen highlights of Reading this season, he seems heavily involved for them in the final third and he will be undoubtedly playing on Saturday.

Jeff who?
Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
I always think that when former players either get 'boos' or 'applause' it motivates them. Best thing to do is ignore them, so it sows a seed of doubt in their head.... "why are they ignoring me.. have they forgotten me..."
can always give them a clap at the end... hopefully when they've lost!

You can count on one hand those that have recently left Burnley pre relegation for bigger and better things, yet it actually worked out for them
( football wise rather than Bank balance)
I might get a light hand from me, but I certainly don't boo former players, infact I can't remember the ladt one I did.

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
I don’t ever get why anyone would ever boo opposition players or teams/ anthems, all it does is give them another reason to do well against us. Either apathy or a nice quick round of applause and then get in with supporting our current playersjedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 8:41 pmEverytime I’ve seen highlights of Reading this season, he seems heavily involved for them in the final third and he will be undoubtedly playing on Saturday.

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
Why would anyone boo him
He did a decent job in a defensive team, and understandably moved on (or more like was forced to, if the rumours are to be believed)

Played a key part in a team that achieved something we may never witness again.
Those who think he was shite probably need to have a think about that.

Why the obsession with bang average players from the past ,if your going to reminisce, there are dozens of players much better than the likes of Hendrick, get behind today’s lads ,and cheer them to the rafters.

You would never know he was on the pitch , the invisable man he is called in Ireland .

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
Not a slight on Bastien at all, but wouldn’t mind having Hendrick slotting in for Cork/Cullen tomorrow simply because I’d know exactly what he could offer in replacement rather than a fairly unknown.

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
He certainly wasn't shite, on his day he was very good. It was just that he didn't exactly have good day after good day.
Some games he was totally anonymous. Having said that, I wouldn't have minded him staying, we've had plenty worse, but I wasn't broken hearted when he slung his hook.

He scored that class goal v Everton with over 20 touches by us finished by Jeff in style
A far better player than Arfield who for some reason had got cult status.

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
He scored some great goals. Largely played out of position by SD but was the best option at RW. I think his move to Newcastle backfired in terms of game time as per Chris Wood

Good value for what you generally get in the PL market.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 9:56 pmI will have a little cry when I remember we spent 10m on him.

Dyche certainly got the most out of him. Played a good part in a very successful part of our history.

Bit of an enigma Hendrick as he could be anonymous but also scored some brilliant goals e.g.
H v Bournemouth
A v Brighton
A v Chelsea
A v Everton
What I clearly remember thinking when we signed him was that we, at last, had a midfielder who looked like he had the stature and physique for the Premier league. Overall I was a fan and will give him a gentle clap tomorrow, hopefully after he has been invisible in a Reading defeat.

He was at the top of his game when we got him, and performing very well for Ireland at the time. Personally I think we got our moneys worth from him

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
I think Hendrick being better for us than Arfield is a fair shout. If Hendrick had had those two Championship seasons with us he'd be looked at much more favourably, Arfield was great in that league but struggled in the Prem much more than Hendrick did.
Mild applause from me tomorrow.

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
Personally would have Arfield of the two of them also.
It’s been great to not have the constant references to Hendricks on here for a year or two. Having one of them for 4 years was quite sufficient tbh.

Are we really having this conversation?
One just scored in the champions league against Liverpool.
The other is managed by Paul Ince.

Was decent enough for us. Nothing more nothing less.
Don’t see the need to boo him at all. He come in done a job for us and left on good terms. He will be treated like any other opposition player, with a small clap of respect

Il clap him
It wasn’t his fault he wasn’t good enough for us in the end
And as I predicted he was back in the Championship very soon after leaving us
Next stop league one for Hendrick

How can a player deemed not good enough for us play a big part in helping us to finish 7th if he wasn't up to standard?

Re: Jeff Hendrick returns
Hendrick was excellent for us but also a prime example of Dyche getting the absolutely maximum from a relatively average player. He’s since been awful for Newcastle, poor for QPR and now finds himself at Reading.

Ahhh Jeff Hendrick, a player who earned millions of pounds in his time with us but then refused to play when the season was forcibly extended as a result of a global pandemic that killed millions, thus leaving us to scratch around to fill a bench.
