Team for Sheff Utd

Muric
THB, Beyer, Taylor
Roberts, Vitinho, Cork, Bastien/Cullen, Maatsen
Zaroury
Jay

Hard to leave Benson out but think we have to be a bit more pragmatic, given potential injury to Cullen and Brownhill suspended

Depends on the fitness of Jay and Cullen. We’ve missed Cullen (despite the wins). Also Tella looked shot at from the first minute so that’s a tricky one.

Jay going off tonight makes me think he’ll be out on Sat. Losing his height for set pieces means I bring Taylor in at left back. JBG in the 10.

Muric
Roberts
THB
Beyer
Taylor
Cork
Cullen
Benson
JBG
Zaroury
Dervisoglu

Maatsen and Tella providing decent bench options. If no Cullen then Bastien.

I like your style - keep Twine back for the Blackburn game to come off the bench to score the winner!!!

Just taken this from The Sheffield Star website. Sounds like they're in a similar position with team selection....

Although United will welcome Anel Ahmedhodzic, their marquee summer signing, back from suspension against the visitors from Turf Moor, doubts over the availability of Jack Robinson, James McAtee, Tommy Doyle and Chris Basham threaten to complicate Heckingbottom’s planning for a clash with one of the three teams relegated from the PL earlier this year. With Sander Berge, Rhian Brewster, Jayden Bogle, Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Daniel Jebbison definitely unavailable for selection, United can ill afford to lose any more influential names as they attempt to maintain their momentum ahead of the World Cup break.

The Brownhill suspension forces our hand

—————Muric
Roberts-THB-Beyer-Maatsen
————-Cork-Cullen*
Gudmundsson———Zaroury
————————-Jay
—————-Tella

*Bastien if Cullen isn’t available

This would be my lineup too.
Maatsen playing higher up the pitch with Taylor behind him. Zaroury playing the Tella role and Vitinho on the right wing.

We then have Benson, Tella and Derv as super subs. and I would also include Kevin Long and (yes) Barnsey to shore up the defence against the inevitable last minute bombardment from the likes of McBurnie and Sharp.

Not sure why so many going for a back 3 or 5 when we are top of the league playing with 4.
It may be good to be missing Brownhill. It gives him a rest and allows a slightly more cautious midfield.

Agree about Dervisoglu possibly getting a start, Jrod didn't look too clever when he came off.

I expect some rotation as a few players are looking a little jaded with all the football at the moment and the last things we want is any unnecessary injuries. I would go with the following

Muric
Roberts THB Beyer Taylor
Cork Cullen/Bastien
Benson Bastien/JBG Zaroury
Derv

Was tempted to say Barnes up top (I thought he looked lively when he came on last night) but not sure if Derv can play the 10 role. If only Twine or Darko was fit!

I thought that, I know it was only a brief cameo, I know his legs have gone etc. But he did look less hopeless when he actually stayed on his feet. He's not a bad footballer when he's not constantly sticking his arse out and looking for a foul he'll never get.

One thing is for sure - I wouldn't be changing formation when we've gone 19 games, only lost once and are 5 points clear at the top.

It sounds like Cullen is going to miss out again at the weekend.
Unless there are injuries / tired legs that we don't know about, such as with Jay..

Muric
Roberts THB Beyer Maatsen
Cork Bastien
JBG Tella Zaroury
Jay

Although I do think VK will spring a surprise with Benson and start him vs SU or Rovers.

------------------------------Muric
--Roberts----------THB------------Beyer----------Maatsen
------------------Cork----Bastien----Cullen
----Tella----------------Rodriguez--------------Zaroury

(Above is based purely on the thesis that Jay and Cullen are fit, obviously - which I pray for).

Also will add that I would personally start Taylor at left back, but realise that won't happen. I think this is a game to keep tighter than usual.

If Cullen is fit:

‐--------------Muric
Roberts THB Beyer Taylor
---------Cork Cullen
Benson Bastien Zaroury
------------Rodriguez

Tella looks like he needs a break and if he misses Benson replaces that pacey threat. If Cullen misses.then either JBG comes in or possibly Egan Riley to play the holding role he did to good effect versus Reading when he came on.

That Brownhill booking is a self inflicted blow but we are where we are.

Cork Cullen/ or Bastian
Bensen Zaruorry
Tella Jay/Dervisoglu

Jay and Cullen if fit, otherwise as above. Would go for Roberts who I think will be calmer in what will be a hostile atmosphere

Muric
Roberts THB Beyer Taylor
Cork Bastien
JBG Brownhill Zaroury
Dervisoglu

Need our better defenders on the pitch for Sheff U, and Jay and Tella both look in need of a rest.
Benson obviously playing better than JBG atm, but he's so good coming on for the last 40 mins I'd leave him as he is for a while.

We'll need a good disguise for Brownhill ;)

Didn't twig that it was 5 cards, in which case we need Cullen fit, and push Bastien behind Devisoglu.

From what VK has said, I expect Cullen to miss out. And why not play Jay - he has 8 days off after Saturday's game and came off after 74 minutes last night.

As I said, he and Tella both looked half a yard behind their normal showing. I'm not knocking either of them, but sometimes you just need to rest players, that's why we have a squad.

Muric
Roberts THB Long Taylor
JBG Cork Cullen
Benson JRod Zaroury.

A nice mix of youth, pace, experience and defending ability. I don't think they'd expect us to be so solid yet so potent.

Sheff Utd will attempt to kick us off the park so for that reason I would play Ash and Derv up front
With Charlie and Connor in full back position
Muric
Roberts Thb Beyer Taylor
Bastien Cork Jutinoho Tella
Barnes Derv
Jay,Zahoury, Benson, Costelloe ,Maatsen to come for last 60 mins as Blades tire.

Yeah - I see a lot of folk (even publications) list our front 4 as

Gudmundsson——Tella——Zaroury
——————————-Jay

Which as of the recent formation tweak is inaccurate in terms of formation, as well as roles.

Jay has been the one dropping into a deeper position in transition - almost like a false 9 with Tella leading the line looking to stretch the defence.

It’s a hard one for defenders because if their DM is occupied/out of position, the centreback either has to come and stay tight to Jay, which leaves Tella one/two on one, or leave him and then Jay is unmarked to pick up the ball to then play in our widemen to begin a counter attack

Gone for solidity at the back, Taylor back in a LB. Time to try Maatsen further forward.

Similar in terms of clearly out of position, but Taylor has been decent at times - Mee at left back was poor.

I thought JBG was the best of the starters on Wednesday, he’s also defensively more diligent. Matsen I believe played further forward some times for Coventry. Benson on the bench this week, but he most definitely would be starting our home games.

I've seen Sheffield twice this season.

You can take it from me they're a physical side who will intimidate us and kick our quicker lads up in the air for as long as they can get away with it.

With a big crowd and a homer with the whistle we may need some adjustments.

I'm starting Barnes and Roberts with Taylor at LB and Long on the bench.

I told you so !!! 😡

Muric
Roberts THB Long Taylor
JBG Cork Cullen
Benson JRod Zaroury.

A nice mix of youth, pace, experience and defending ability. I don't think they'd expect us to be so solid yet so potent.
Ok no JRod, but could have played this back 4, would have provided a far more solid defence than what we experienced today.
