Aye, what a voice and we certainly will hear her a lot - and rightly so.

Stevie Nicks can (slightly) fill the void for me though.

Like the song.

But who did people viewing the thread title think that this might be about?

I had these come to mind:-
1. Thatcher (so assumed it was going to be a bit of a ****-take), then
2. Madge

She sang well both as a solo artist and as an accompanist. I dont know a lot about her as a person other than the circumstances of her tragic death.

In terms of her output, I still like to listen to Titanic Days album which, I think, is a classic break-up album.

Many years back I entered a competition in the Bury Times hoping to win her Galore cd. I actually won 2 tickets to see her live in Manchester. She started with Titanic Days and was brilliant. Her backing band were from Rochdale.

From backing singer to Jonah Lewis - ‘Always Find Me in The Kitchen at Parties’ to Billy Bragg’s ‘New England, and Ray Davies (Kinks) “Days’ not to mention her Christmas ditty with The Pogues… Kirsty took some beating.

My favourite female singer and named my daughter Kirsty after her. The Galore (greatest hits) album is a particular joy from start to finish.

Just as an aside her father wrote IMO one of the best romantic songs ever but always hated the greatest version of it.

Any guesses

We're all different, I love that Roberta Flack version ... here's a lesser known rendition, by the King ...

I agree the Roberta Flack version was tremendous. I first heard it in the film ‘Play Misty For Me.’
Ewan MacColl hated it for some reason.

"Sweet Thames flow softly" is my favourite Ewan MacColl song (Dirty Auld Town and "First Time..." notwithstanding). Great tune and very nice geographical riverside references mapping the upward and downward timeline of a romance.
Planxty did an excellent version back in the 70s but here's a nice one from Christy Moore, Sinead O'Connor and (I think) Kirsty's brother Neill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tgwtl-s ... channel=Mk
