Just read about him on Google and was shocked to find he was abducted by one of his teachers and abused for 4 days before being left by a roadside. He then spent 8 months traumatised on Valium and rocking around on his bed.
A horrible and shocking way for him to start his life and such a triumph for him to achieve what he has.
Such a shame to loose a talented guy like this.

My partner Natasha just came in crying with this news. A very shy and complicated man who fought many demons with bravery and talent. Terry died after a short illness. My thoughts are with his family; and my heart goes out to Neville who has lost his best mate so soon after losing his soul-mate and wife. Thanks Terry. It’s later than we think.

R.I.P. Terry Hall.

Yes, would like a copy of that. I used to have it on pre-recorded cassette. In fact, I just found it on Amazon Japan for around 2 quid UK money and have ordered the CD.

Wow this is Sad Sad News.

He is still to this day the only Star I've ever met that I was Star Struck by on first meeting, while working in Venues on Sound / Lights. (met him a few times - was always shocked he remembered and made time) That first meet I can picture like it happened this afternoon.

A larger than life pressence yet a thoroughly nice fella.
Just a decent bloke who had talent, hated inequality and had a social conscience.

I have been a fan and follower of all his different work over the years.

His voice will Live on.

RIP

Wow, what shocking and very sad news.
I've always thought he was a really charismatic front man, a lot less 'in your face' than most lead singers yet still captivating.
I think that this brilliant 1983 live performance of Our Lips are Sealed is just how I will always remember Terry Hall.

P.S. as for the attempt at 'humour' in post #5 - stick to your 'Laughter is the best medicine' thread with that kind of tiresome crap.

Cowritten with Jane Wiedlin of the GoGos. Seem to recall it was about a fling they had while the bands were touring together. Features June Miles-Kingston on drums and vocals. Always regarded her as a much underrated singer. A cracking tune and a fitting tribute. RIP Terry.

Can’t believe this awful news. Such a distinctive and authentic voice and what a legacy of fantastic music. Funnily enough Ghost Town came on the radio the other day and I said to my gf “they don’t write ‘em like this any more” thinking about the social references in the song at a time when we were seeing riots in our cities.
I feel very sad this morning.

A soundtrack to my youth... sad day RIP Terry.
The Specials.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, following a brief illness, of Terry, our beautiful friend, brother and one of the most brilliant singers, songwriters and lyricists this country has ever produced.
Terry was a wonderful husband and father and one of the kindest, funniest, and most genuine of souls. His music and his performances encapsulated the very essence of life… the joy, the pain, the humour, the fight for justice, but mostly the love.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him and leaves behind the gift of his remarkable music and profound humanity.
Terry often left the stage at the end of The Specials’ life-affirming shows with three words… “Love Love Love”

We would ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy at this very sad time.🖤

I heard the sad news last night while listening to the radio. The album they (The Specials) brought out a couple of years ago is up there with some of his/their best music. R.I.P Terry Hall.

As for those having a go at Bosscat. It's been a UTC 'meme' to post a photo of someone who looks similar, or has the same name, for years, and it's not disrespectful. It's just light-heartedness for when we read sad news, and isn't at all insulting. I think people are looking for offence where none is intended.

And when does it become inappropriate? How about on a tribute thread following the death of an ex-Burnley player? Or perhaps a Burnley fan or messageboard user? No-one is looking for offence, just pointing out that it’s childish and crass, which I agree with.

Bosscat does regularly take the lead in this dubious tradition. It’s up to him whether he wishes to continue but it has become tiresome.

Thanks for the clarification though I was already aware of the origin of this lame 'UTC meme'.
I wasn't in the slightest bit offended by post #5, I just pointed out that there's already a hilarious thread running offering lots of Russ Abbot's Madhouse and Jim 'Nick Nick' Davidson type medicine so it wasn't necessary to deface a respectful RIP thread to a cultural icon with that kind of rubbish.
It's clear that from certain other RIP threads which have appeared on here both very recently and over time that there is a 'line' which the Mrs. Brown's Boy's Brigade won't cross in an attempt to be funny, but as ever we are all free to post however we see fit and I'm pointing out that this 'mistaken identity' meme in my opinion is, and always has been, crass, unamusing and unwelcome.

In the meantime, here's The Colourfield live on The Tube in 1984 - https://youtu.be/HVm-XAjqXxg
P.S. the ScottishTeeVee channel from which the above comes has some really superb stuff on it.

Terrible news to wake up to this morning! Terry Hall was a brilliant front man as well as a very talented song writer.
A really sad fact is that the events organisers of Towneley live were really close to getting the Specials on last summer for the original date in June, unfortunately this had to be postponed until September and they were no longer available.

I agree it has become tiresome,I mentioned it quite a while back, when someone passes its time to show proper respect not make a joke of it,just my opinion but I really think this tradition should be put to bed once and for all

I think BB is right above. When similarly styled memes were prefaced with "In the absence of Beamish".... or whoever it was, they did raise a smile even at the sad news of yet another icon leaving us.
I don't think a number of music lovers should be particularly upset or angered by this latest one.
To be fair, on hearing the news in the 25 degree heat of Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife (that's for my loyal followers 😎), I did ask my missus which Terry Hall she meant.

Very sad news.
I saw the Specials on the 2 Tone Tour back in 1979, with Madness and the Selector, at the Golden Palms in Blackburn. The place was absolutely rocking.

Too Much Too Young.

RIP Terry
