A great ambassador for football , for Brazil and for the art of sport without the "big-head' aspect of many of the modern 'stars'.
Just a point of interest did any Burnley players of the past actually play in a team with Pele or against Pele?
Mike Sumerbee.....

One of the greatest players ever! But also a seemingly wonderfully humble and kind person which is such a rarity nowadays with the celebrity status that the modern day footballer seems to assume.
Rest in Peace Pele!

The header and save from Banks will live forever.
What a legend.

There was an article this morning on Sky Sports about Pele and Denis Tuert was interviewed as he did play a few exhibition matches with the great man for New York Cosmos in the 70's. I actually saw one at Stamford Bridge in a team including Beckenbauer and Cruyff.
Tuert did sign for Burnley in the John Bond season and I believe he did turn out a few times. Whether he actually played much in those appearances I don't really know

Very sad though not unexpected news.
May the world's greatest player be at peace now.

In 2007 my son was at Sheffield Uni and worked as a steward at Utd and Wednesday on match days. During that time FIFA recognising Sheffield FC as the oldest cub in the world (founded 1857) organised a game between Sheffield FC and a FIFA 11 for their 150 year anniversary.
Pele was guest of honour and my son got to meet and escort the great man around the ground. Afterwards Pele signed his autograph for my son and I have it framed along with a picture from 1970 WC.

Followed him on TV in the 1970 World Cup, what a player!
A true gentleman.
A sad loss to both football and mankind.

No doubt that he was the greatest. Regardless of the generation you are from, you were aware of who he was and what he did.
This could cause some discussion though, the Premier League & EFL have said teams are to wear black armbands and hold a minutes applause.
