We have a lot to offer players: great manager, PL football (hopefully) with plenty of game time, an attractive style, what looks to be a good group that support each other, home ground with a good atmosphere, great away support and we should be competitive salary-wise given how we’ve refreshed the squad.

VK always says the players are not only competing with themselves but every player affordable to Burnley football club… which should be a lot considering in the Prem we had something like the 35th highest income in world football! I would say if we got promoted we’re a brilliant prospect for any of our loan players.

Not a rumour just an observation, I don’t buy into these worries about us not being able to compete financially, we did it before, very successfully, now we have a manager who is a big draw and a desire to use the better value overseas market. I have no doubt we will strengthen well.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see north of £50m spent on promotion - not in the Maranakis league but when we contrast to what some others sides up there are spending, it would be good. Guaranteed income of £200m+ in 23/24-26/27 would help make the financial case for that investment, in that these would be young assets with resale values and immediate TV cash flow to help the club afford it while they play for us.

The truth is if we're in the PL, we financially blow 95% of football clubs on this earth out of the water. The wealthier 5% aren't all shopping in the same pool as us, there's so many players out there, the % of the 5% shopping in the same financial bracket have plenty of alternative options that it's unlikely we'll be fighting for the same players.

This was always a huge myth under Dyche on here, that if we're in for a player, we'll just get financially out muscled by another PL team, like all PL teams are fighting over the same 5 players Burnley are targeting. Fake news

Good player and will definitely add goals for them, but so will Surridge. We’re the top scorers in the division, we’re not desperate and a youngster like Archer will need to play every game for his development from Villa’s perspective (he couldn’t be guaranteed that here). Surridge, if he signs, will be in rotation with Jay to get us over the line and can then be reassessed in the summer.

Given who that person is and in the context of a much longer conversation I cannot see any reason whatsoever why they would say something which differs from the facts and there is nobody who will know the facts better than them.

If the manager of his German club has said something which contradicts this then if he did say this there maybe a reason he is (eg to deflect any criticism from the press or their fans about agreeing a price before seeing how well he performs).

Whereas I cannot think of a single reason why the person at Burnley would tell me something different to the facts.

But guess we will all find out soon enough.

Sure.

In terms of profile, an ex-Bournemouth striker who barely played for them and had a record of 4 goals in 35 apps just isn’t the type of player of player that excites me. He also had loans at the likes of Yeovil, Poole, Oldham, Swansea & Stoke and barely set the world there. Prior to joining Forest he scored 2 in 20 for Stoke and 4 in 20 for Swansea.

He did okay for Forest, but basically scored the same number of goals as Archer in a lesser team (bottom half vs play-offs).

Archer obviously plays for a much bigger club than either Bournemouth or Forest in Villa and is being kept out of the team by top players like Ings and Watkins (not that I really rate him either). He’s also younger, and given Surridge’ goal scoring record is meh at best everywhere else other than Forest, I’d consider him a higher profile signing with the potential to be a Prem striker if developed well.

I’ll be surprised if Surridge turns out to be a Prem striker, given he’s been playing (as you say) without scoring this season and has allegedly been made available on loan as a result.

… but have seen the Forest comments so obviously there’s something more to his abilities than the stats suggest.

Probably 15 or so, we were definitely in the bottom 5 anyway. My point is that being the poorest club in the PL is still richer than 95% of clubs worldwide. Most of the PL aren't shopping in the same pool as each other either, and with the sheer number of available players worldwide, there's an absolute incredible amount of potential options.
