Semenyo is interesting, in and out of the team constantly, seems more effective as an impact sub. Started only 50% of league games last season, 50% the year before too. Has good productive numbers though.
I think he was the fella (off the bench) who put in the wicked cross against us right at the death that THB did brilliantly to deal with.

he's never going to impress sat on the bench and not getting game time, very hard for him I would imagine. He'll need to hit the ground running though when Cork gets his inevitable ban (and Cullen isn't too far behind him)

Re: January transfer window rumours.
So to sum up the last few posts we are looking at a striker of varying height who plays LW and CF whilst sat on the bench and is highly productive whilst barely producing?
Sounds interesting.

20 combined goals and assists last season in 24 league starts. Definitely more of a wide forward than a central striker.

He also scored 8 last season and got 12 assists in 31 games.
At his age there’s a player there.

He’s so different to Surridge that common sense would suggest that we want both players in place of Barnes and Dervisoglu.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Not links but two players I’d love for us to sign on loan are Morgan Sanson (£48k PW) at Villa and Sambi Lokonga (£50k PW) at Arsenal.
Both unhappy at lack of game time & being vocal about it apparently. With our higher earners leaving, would love to see one brought in with an option to buy if promoted.
That’s the day dreaming done for today…

I could see Arsenal selling him though. Has hardly played this season and not sure he’ll get in the team the way they’re playing now - and he’s not happy with game time. May be willing to cut their losses at some point & find someone else.

I think the way Cork is playing, he’d still do it in the Prem with the decent rest periods between games. But we definitely need a long term replacement.

Not sure he’s got the legs for the prem. I watched the newcastle game last night, they are so quick and athletic I think Cork would struggle now. It’s just another level physically unfortunately

That’s a fair point, although you are comparing 1st vs 3rd there - not really the standard we would be hoping to attain whoever we sign.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 4:57 pmNot sure he’s got the legs for the prem. I think he’s an absolute Rolls Royce who reads the game well enough to do it in the Prem, although maybe not every game/opposition or for the full 90 as you say.

Cheap but a strange signing to me if true. Looked decent on the ball when I watched clips.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think that players like Cork and Norwood (Sheff Utd) are very experienced and brilliant in the Championship. Maybe two of the stand out midfielders this season in the Championship. The PL is a different world though and moved on immensely -now you have teams like WHU, Everton, Wolves, Southampton, Leeds flirting round the bottom. Normally these teams would be comfortably mid table, however so many PL teams have really raised their game and squads ie Brentford, Brighton, Newcastle, Fulham, Arsenal have all done that. Add these clubs to the ones traditionally in the top 8-10 and realise what a cruel league it is for small clubs.
To survive you need a minimum of 4-5 very mobile, athletic and skillful CM's, all good at retaining possession. Only have to look at Liverpool -they have failed to invest in this area of their game and are getting blown away by mid table sides. In our current squad I can only see Cullen as a CM who could hold his own in todays, and more specifically next seasons very challenging PL. This is not a criticism of Brownhill or Cork, who have played big parts this season. We have however seen enough of these two in the PL to see their relative strengths and shortcomings

Played 14 of their 18 league games this season (1 goal, 4 assists)
Last season he played in 27 of their 36 games (1 goal, 2 assists)
Worth pointing out that is in the second tier of Turkey as far as I can tell, as opposed to their Premier League.

Seems we're shifting those with heftier salaries for those with more modest salaries. Bennasser for Westwood potentially.
No problem that model, nostalgia aside. Keeps the squad competitive. Just hope we don't lose too much valuable experience in the process.
