Price of a pint of beer

I prefer drinking at home. It's cheaper, everything I need is here, and it's not full of annoying people!

Costs are rising for both breweries and pubs/bars.

You can go into the Bridge and pay over £5 a pint. You can go into the Big Window and pay less than £3

The drink you get will be massively different in quality and when you are out for 5-6 pints then its only £10 -12 more over the session so I would usually prefer a better quality of beer if that is available.

Im all for value for money but I also like to support those establishments that look to offer decent and quality beers.

My first pint at Uni in 1962 was 1s/6d or 7.5p
Mind you my board and lodgings was £3.50p per week
No idea what the average wage was in those days but
Haynes at Fulham was about to get rather than earn £100/week

Aye, had a similar discussion before Christmas on here. Local bar near me had an imperial stout on. Was £6 for a third, but it was absolutely superb, and you'd never drink a pint of it.

I also think some pubs deliberately try to "price out" certain types of drinker.

I suppose in any City it will be more expensive around the tourist areas. Manhattan is scarily expensive though. I actually found that a beer was cheaper on Wall St. than Times Sq/Broadway.

Yes its true. I read that three more E Lancs pubs are to close, including the White Bear at Barrowford. Crawshawbooth has more pubs than Rawtenstall

Used to be a lot of decent pubs in Rawtenstall.
Often a 'Stop Off' for us on our way to the Turf, meeting old family friends. One of those friends was an ex landlord of the Bishop Blaize. Sad how pubs all over are closing down.

I know it's watered down John smiths etc isn't strong tackle at the best of times, but after you've finished queuing up at some places & manouerved past heaving bars with the spillages & ignored so many times by short staffed over worked bar staff you feel pretty much sober & short changed when you eventually taste it. Apart from drinking at home it's like a rock & a hard place wherever you go.

I dont drink much beer as prefer my spirits but don't minder a beer or two in the summer. In Leeds we have this brilliant new imported one called Staropramen. I doubt you'll be able to get it in Burnley yet cos its very new to the UK but its a Polish beer so keep you eye out for it as its the best beer I've ever tasted.

That's not a lot if he's drinking something like fosters Carling carlsberg green, a few is 3 over 7 days thats 30 cans it's only like 4 a night of weak 4% stuff.

There are though quite a few more microbrews and good bars in Rawtenstall now. More choice and better quality than a few years ago even if a few of the older pubs have gone

Jennings was bought by Marstons a few years back and they did the usual. Close down the brewery and brew it in Burton, ruining the beer in the process. I used to love Sneck Lifter from Jennings but sadly it is nothing more than a memory now.

We are just assuming everybody's buying 500ml pint cans then which are sold as a 4 I've yet to come across them in case packs. 440ml are commonly sold in greater quantities.

The words he actually used were "get down" I don't have a clue about that said posters drinking habits but drinking 30 cans/pints a week sounds alot worse than casually drinking 4 cans of fosters after a hard days work every evening, I don't wish to argue as it's futile, good evening. It's easier to distort & misrepresent than actually breaking something down & thinking logically but let's assume he's on 30 pints of frosty jacks every week.

Nonsense because it's widely recognised that binge drinkers are alcoholics they can go months without having a drink & all of a sudden bang for a week. Alcoholism is very complex the experts are at a loss how to diagnose alcoholism because it's varies so greatly drinker to drinker.

I never mentioned binge drinkers but specifically people who feel they MUST drink everyday, the majority of whom use relaxation as an excuse. It isn't nonsense, just a simple logical statement.

I'd advise you to read the doctors opinion on alcoholics anonymous it's that complex it's beyond our understanding.

I drink in my local pub or local cricket club which offers both options but to be honest I drink because I enjoy a good pint, not because I need to get 10 pints down my neck every night like I did in my early 20’s, everyone’s circumstances are different.
