No problem with a balanced view of things that are going well and things that could be improved but an obsessive focus on every little issue when we are romping the league and playing some of the best football a lot of us have ever seen Burnley play in our lifetimes seems a bit sad to me

Re: Muric
I don’t seem to recall ever seeing a keeper using an outside of the foot sliced ball out from the back but last night Muric did it twice! He’s obviously doesn’t command the box like Pope used to but the way he plays in this team is a major cog in a very well oiled machine. He is high risk but that is the way he is told to play and it’s not gone too badly so far this season, eh?

Re: Muric
The similarity I am using is that both appeared to have the ball and both basically mishandled under pressure. That "goal" could easily have stood, it's all a matter of how the ref interprets it.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 2:38 pmNo Pope came a long way and jumped over a group of players and it was Pope who landed on one of those players (who had stood still and not made any movement towards Pope) banging the ball against him and losing control of it. Last night it was the West Brom player who moved towards and knocked into Muric when Muric was easily collecting the ball.

Re: Muric
They were very different though. It wasn't pressure in either incident that caused them to drop the ball, it was the keepers coming into contact with an opposition player. The difference was it was Pope's own fault he banged into the Newcastle player whereas last night the West Brom player banged into Muric and was nowhere near challenging for the ball.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 2:56 pmThe similarity I am using is that both appeared to have the ball and both basically mishandled under pressure. I thought the decision was a bit soft last night and we'd got away with it but on looking at the replay the West Brom player bangs into Muric as he's collecting the ball which causes him to drop it. As Spijed said Muric could maybe be a bit stronger in those kind of scenarios but nevertheless its a clear foul

Re: Muric
Very much seen a replay - the one from the Bob Lord side is clearest - the attacker leads with his arm/elbow and that makes contact with Muric's neck. That's what causes Muric to lose control of the ball. It's then in two hands when it bounces clear on second contact.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 1:01 pmSorry but I disagree about their disallowed goal. Can only assume that you haven’t seen a replay? It definitely can’t be described as a barge- and the West Brom players did appeal.
Muric actually jumps into their player who was jumping straight up, with eyes only on the ball, catches it then fumbles it into the net.
Not this game, as it works against us as well- when a keeper challenges for the ball, any kind of contact (even if they themselves instigate it) and they get the foul which is wrong in my opinion.
When you make contact like that before going in fit the header, it's a foul anywhere on the pitch. That's what I meant by a barge. It's clear and it's not even a function of keepers being protected.

Re: Muric
Having seen the replay of the disallowed goal, I’ve changed my view. It’s a foul, fair enough.
Perhaps a touch harsh from me then. Still want more in terms of commanding his box, but happy to hold my hands up that my view from the Bob Lord must have been impeded by a pillar!

Love his distribution but I don’t understand why he didn’t come and punch the ball to prevent their goal. He is 6’5” so he only has to jump a little to take it off the top of the WBA player’s head.

Re: Muric
He absolutely has to come for balls landing in the six yard box, especially with our lack of height everywhere else. Having said that, apart from THB, he's the best passer in the team.

That cross for the goal should have been dealt with before it got anywhere near Muric.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 3:47 pmHe absolutely has to come for balls landing in the six yard box, especially with our lack of height everywhere else. Funny how WBA "rehearsed" the whole move on the prior corner, including the push

No he doesn't, he has to trust his defenders will deal with them.
The stats show most keepers claim about 20% of all crosses into their areas.

Re: Muric
He’s a very young goalkeeper, who is performing to a very high level. He’s not perfect but it’s felt to me all season that certain people want him to fail.
The days are gone when keepers clatter people (including their own) to claim a ball. Watch some
Premier League games this weekend and tell me apart from Pope who is good with high balls and dominating their area?
Muric is a special talent and people need to relax a bit and try to enjoy what he brings to the team.

It's still his main improvement area. Most people can see that regardless of what the stats you quote say. And by the way he has flapped and missed them. That's the reality. He's been good this season - and was very good last night - but there's nothing wrong with people talking talking about where he can get better.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 5:18 pmWould you rather he came, flapped and missed them instead?

But some of us see an agenda where AM is concerned.
Let's face it, if anyone wanted to they could point to areas which need improving all over the pitch.
Look at some of the keepers who have played against us, I don't recall any being particularly stand-out better than Muric.

Of course all players have areas that can be improved but this thread is about Muric.
I also don't see any better keepers right now in this league.

can we also note that Teemu Pukki one of the best strikers in the league stated the best keeper he has played against in the league was "The Burnley Keeper, Muric" and he referenced murics late wonder save in that norwich game as one of the reasons why.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:03 pmThis is of course correct.

Re: Muric
One of Muric's best games for us against Norwich. Excellent match winning save and him and Cork we our best players that game. So no surprise he said that because presumably he was judging on that game. But from a broader viewpoint I haven't seen better in this league.HistoricalClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:08 pmcan we also note that Teemu Pukki one of the best strikers in the league stated the best keeper he has played against in the league was "The Burnley Keeper, Muric" and he referenced murics late wonder save in that norwich game as one of the reasons why.

Re: Muric
For me he as to command is six yard box a lot better than he does for a big guy he seems rooted to is line and our defence isn't the biggest so that's why you need him to take the pressure of from set pieces , he's still young and he will get better I hope because in the premiership you have to be on your toes.

I do think that’s missing a great move in the corner first half though, which I thought was the best of the lot.

Re: Muric
Muric has way more positives than negatives.
We couldn't play the way we do without him. And playing the way we do has made us the top scoring team in all professional divisions and given us an 18 point gap
I'll forgive his odd mistake

Yep. Loved it when he received a short pass in the opposition half. How often do you see that from a ‘keeper?
