Promotion
If and when we get promoted what do you think the chances are of keeping our loan player's and to stay up .
Re: Promotion
I would like Bayer signed up and TBH on another year loan...I think Tella we would have to pay north of £20 million...and Matsen given its Chelsea may be something similar ...I think they would do okay in Premier but there would be no guarantee.. I would look in the Belgium and French leagues given VKs teamsfer success for alternatives
Success would be to stay up ...a good start would be needed.. we need to see how Obeafemi and LT do in the next 6 months....
If I had £10.00 I would bet it on something else not a sure thing either way

Re: Promotion
Both cbs especially Ekdal look quality signings so signing THB may not be necessary
We need to open negotiations now with Maatsen,Bayer and Tella as loanees we can make the deals permanent
We have unearthed gems and must not let them go.

I would find it somewhat unsettling to learn if Saints / Chelsea / Gladbach inflated the prices of their three players to sell to us when it was Burnley and VK's team that made them look good! That's football i supposeWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 6:31 amBoth cbs especially Ekdal look quality signings so signing THB may not be necessary

I haven’t spoken to anybody yet who seems genuinely excited about going up. Normally being top and playing such fantastic football you’d expect people to be really looking forward to be challenging
Re: Promotion
Teams in the top league. I think our recent experience and understanding of how the financial aspect works makes going up a less attractive prospect. Then you have VAR etc. I’ve met a lot who want us to win the league and then decline the promotion that goes with it.

Re: Promotion
Although there is lots of aspects about the PL I dislike, surely we have to trust VK and the players to embrace the challenge promotion will bring.
As enjoyable as this season has been we have to aim to be the best we can, and competing in the PL is a major part of that.

Apart from the money aspect, I don't know anyone amongst
our group of family and friends that want to be in the PL next season.
What a sad endictment as to what's on offer - quite sad really.

Re: Promotion
Precisely! if we hadn't won promotion this season we'd have struggled to hold onto some of our exciting young talent, as well as the loanees and VK would also have been in demand if we'd done well but not completed the job.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:47 amBizarre mentality, never understood it. All those saying they prefer the Championship just think back to the mid 2000's when we were skint and endured the 19 game winless run under Cotterill.

Exactly this…
We can’t and rightly won’t offer THB the playing time he will want and needs for his development.

It has been refreshing to go back to celebrating goals this year without VAR sucking the life out of it.
It’s coming to the championship from next season though I believe, so it won’t matter either way.

VAR will probably be in the Championship next season, being controlled by even less able officials than in the Premier League, so we can count that one out.RMutt wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:35 amTeams in the top league. Re: Promotion
I'm not sure about that, I believe he'd still be our best centre half but not sure what we'd get out of it long term. We have to have a model that sees us buy players, improve them and sell at a very healthy profit.
If we can create a production line and at the same time improve the quality of players in our CAT 1 (hopefully) academy then we are half way to achieving what ALK desire, which gives us a chance of a sustainable business model, while being successful on the pitch.
Re: Promotion
Yes, I get that. I’m just not seeing the level of excitement you would normally expect. We should all be chomping at the bit to go up. But genuinely, are we?PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:47 amBizarre mentality, never understood it. Everyone is loving the football, it’s fantastic to watch but I think the Premier League experience is a little tainted for us.
You’ve also got doubts about how long Kompany will stay and how many of our young squad will get pinched off us.

It’s sort of how I feel and know what you mean, however we can’t moan about the big bully boys in the prem as that’s exactly what we are doing in the championshipRMutt wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:35 amTeams in the top league. Re: Promotion
I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing this team test themselves week in week out in the PL. The Championship season this year has breathed new life into the club but the biggest reason for that is we’re far too good for the league. We need to be playing opposition more suited to our level next season.
As far as the loan players go, I’d love us to sign all four including Harwood-Bellis who I think is just fabulous and would start for us alongside Beyer in the PL. The fees required would likely be huge though and swallow most of our summer budget, so there are some tough and interesting decisions ahead for the club.

You’ve answered the question yourself. What do we get out of it? Unless we can see a sale from City, we’re just helping them out. Which is fine, but I don’t see him being streets ahead of the current three.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 11:02 amI'm not sure about that, I believe he'd still be our best centre half but not sure what we'd get out of it long term. At the start of this season I really didn’t know what to expect, it could have been anything from total success to abject failure. If we are promoted next year will be the same and that’s what I’ll be excited about !RMutt wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 11:02 amYes, I get that. Re: Promotion
I'm very excited about the prospect of winning the Championship and maybe breaking records at this level. However this will be our fourth promotion to the PL in recent years so there isn't the wow factor seen in 2010 for instance. I'd say the level of excitement about being in the PL has probably receded with each promotion as inevitably the novelty has worn off , though fair to say it will be interesting to see how this supremely brilliant team (at Championship level) goes on in the PL.RMutt wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 11:02 amYes, I get that. Re: Promotion
Promotion, from another view.
I've just been overwhelmed by a feeling that promotion will lack it's usual excitement, not from playing in the Prem, but the fact that it is happening too easy. The fingernail biting until the last couple of games, the euphoria of finally confirming our place.
When promotion does happen, we will see it coming from such a long way off, that the euphoria will be missing. It's such a shame. Yes, we'll all be delighted, but the excitement will be missing.
Perhaps, if it's still on the cards, chasing down Readings record would generate the excitement fans desire, oh I do hope so.

Re: Promotion
Promotion won’t have been easy. It’s down to astute purchases and very hard work- on the part of the coaches and the players. Every win has to be earned and superior tactics and execution don’t just happen by chance.
It will be fascinating - and not at all boring - to see what adjustments need to be made next year. I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing this non-backs-to-the-wall style challenged next year. On present evidence, we can have every confidence in VK finding a way.

Re: Promotion
Promotions come and go. I’m still pinching myself about us playing so well. How we go in the FA cup this year and the league next season is a huge unknown. We have gotten so used to winning I wouldn’t be surprised if we exceeded expectations. I’ve got £20 on fa cup at 50/1. I will put a flutter on top 6 next year… not because I think we are certain to keep this form going but because we just might.

As for the Prem I'm excited to see how this team does, but there's lots about the Prem I hate. VAR, crap away days, the owners at the likes of City and Newcastle etc.
Re: Promotion
Even scarier - I don't think this is down to form. Form is a temporary run of games. I think we'll do well in the Prem.andyh wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 2:03 pmPromotions come and go. Yeah, like Duff’s clearance against Hull in a night match which saw Cotterill’s departure………sliced it, and it smashed against one of the hospitality box windows in the JH stand………..we were in the hospitality bit where after a while Barry Kilby appeared and said no one from the playing staff would be appearing………..he was a very angry chap!!!!tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:52 amPrecisely! if we hadn't won promotion this season we'd have struggled to hold onto some of our exciting young talent, as well as the loanees and VK would also have been in demand if we'd done well but not completed the job.
