Re: Watford
Another Watford manager who wasn’t afforded time to implement his own ideas, get his own players in etc. although a few months’ work in return for a huge pay off will make it attractive for some managers.

Might as well stick £20 on Wilder to be the next manager in the Championship to be sacked

Hope Wilder gets the Watford gig....then I won't have to listen to him trying to commentate for Sky....which is painful.

They're no better off for going through so many managers than we were for having Dyche for so long.

Sky Sports have got it on but Watford often don’t announce a sacking until the next one has been confirmed

They say Wilder has got a "short term" deal. So just like every other manager they've ever had.

I’m assuming you mean until the next manager has been confirmed and not the next sacking. With Watford, it could be the latter!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 4:53 pmSky Sports have got it on but Watford often don’t announce a sacking until the next one has been confirmed
Re: Watford
Bilic is a sound guy but has been pretty disappointing there overall. They have the largest wage bill in the league and rejected offers for Sarr/Pedro for over 45m combined in the summer. Performances have been pretty poor from what I’ve seen of them too. 9th in the league with 1 win in the last 8.

One thing that club should be good at is the media process for managerial change. They should play the magic roundabout theme to announce the new man.

Re: Watford
Nice pay day if you can get it.He’ll be sacked either before or at the seasons end.
Re: Watford
Obviously impressed with Wilders record at Boro. If only they'd been quicker then they could have got old boy SD back.
Re: Watford
14th in the form table since the end of the World Cup, nowhere near good enough for the group of players available. He deserves the sack.RVclaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 5:00 pmBilic is a sound guy but has been pretty disappointing there overall. That squad should have done it easily but why do so many managers flop there?
Owner interference?

Re: Watford
You have to question someone's mentality who takes that job. The job today is hard enough without looking over your shoulder after every game. I thought Rob Edwards was a great appointment and they sacked him when Watford were doing better than at present, earlier in the season. Would be great if Luton get to the play-offs and Watford dont

I would have thought that it was a really good earner. You work for just a few weeks and then get a massive payout.
(Ranieri being an obvious example)

Wilder's in a win-win situation. If he does a job, fair play to him.
If he gets the bullet, he can just point to his long line of predecessors who shared the same fate and waltz off with his bank account considerably swelled.

They've no real cohesive transfer policy, no foundations to build upon, managers don't get time to implement anything etc.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 5:47 pmI’m more disappointed in them for not keeping the fiddlers out of the top 6.

Re: Watford
I've thought about this for months.
I don't think you have to be desperate, as such. Does anyone think any worse of a manager that fails there? They take their payoff and move on to other jobs, it seems.
What definitely is worse in football is not being in a job for too long. Eventually, people forget you and your phone stops ringing. Lot's of clubs are run by interfering chairmen and DoF's. Modern managers all seem to have to be able to deal with it. Watford is a bit of an extreme case.

Re: Watford
I don't think that the sacked manager gets a good payday. From what I have heard their contract is result based. The season is divided into sections with each section having a pre determined points target. Failure to meet the agreed target means the bullet with no pay off.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 6:04 pmReally?

Yes that all makes sense and typical of a club with no long term plan. They do throw in a Timex watch once someone has done 12 months as a thank youNonayforever wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 7:03 pmI don't think that the sacked manager gets a good payday. Re: Watford
Bonkers at Watford, how long do they give managers, sometimes it takes time to build a side.
Ranieri lasted 14 games.
Hodgson 18 games.
Edwards 11 games.
Bilic 25 games.
Where is the long-term vision, because they can't keep sacking managers can they, though given their recent track record I wouldn't be surprised.

Drove down in my old Renault Clio to that game with my old mate Dogcat, we packed their away end in anticipation of a good win and the team didn’t turn up. It felt like a long journey home that’s for sure UTC

I don't understand the ethos behind it. It makes no sense to me in sacking managers within months. If I was Chris Wilder is be wanting a 3 year contract.
