International Break impact on Sunderland game

Post by randomclaret2 » Mon Mar 13, 2023 12:03 pm

I see Zaroury has been called up for Morocco's upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Peru. The Peru game is late on the Tuesday evening as we play Sunderland on the Friday evening. How many others do we have who are likely to be similarly affected ?

Ekdal, Roberts, JBG, Foster. Not sure of any others off the top of my head.

Without looking at the fixtures, I’m not sure.

Assuming Harwood-Bellis isn’t called up, we could have:

Muric - Kosovo
Roberts - Wales
Maatsen - Holland U21s
Beyer - Germany U21s
Ekdal - Sweden
Zaroury - Morocco
Gudmundsson - Iceland
Foster - South Africa
Peacock-Farrell - Northern Ireland
Al-Dakhil - Belgium U21s
Cullen - Rep Ireland
Obafemi - Rep Ireland

Not much of a “break”.

So we could have 8 or 9 regulars away days before the Sunderland gamr ?

To be honest I much prefer our players to be playing and training as normal. Hopefully less minutes will mean they’re fresh when they come back.

Think most of them play Monday so would be back Tuesday. Zaroury is perhaps an exception. I doubt he will start against. Brazil though.

Edit - no scrap that just saw Roberts is the Tuesday too.

Im concerned about having to play on the Friday night when it would appear so many may have played in the midweek for their countries

Looks like the Morocco game against Peru on the Tuesday is in Madrid.

Good chance he’ll be back in the country Weds morning.

It’s wrong that we are playing Friday . Wouldn’t happen to a premier league team and we probably have as many away as most of them .

If we were a PL team we’d have pulled most of them out.

Hasn’t JBG hung them up internationally?

The world cup fiasco was bad enough
We don't need another break so close to the end of the season

I suspect we will have at least one friendly organised in the break to get Brownhill, Benson and Jay Rod ready for Sunderland

I was just about to post the same. I could have sworn he retired from international duties to concentrate on club football last season.

During the World Cup break he played for them as they won the Baltic Cup. Not sure whether that was just a one off or not…

He won the very impressive looking Baltic Cup with Iceland during the World Cup break.
