I think Sheffield United fan's definitely have something to worry about and if they don't get automatic promotion then the play offs is anyone's.

It must have been disheartening when they kept winning and weren't catching us :D .

So Burnley are to blame for their demise. Maybe you should post that on the Sheff Utd forum, I'm sure it would make them feel better

The play offs are often won by the side in form rather than the one finishing highest in the league. At the moment that is not Sheff United.

Here is an interesting stat for everyone to consider. Middlesbrough have dropped the same number of points as Burnley since the Clarets lost at Sheffield United.

As one poster indicated previously Carrick has to be a strong contender for MOTS if they gain automatic promotion as Boro were in the bottom three when he took over.

Carrick has been nothing short of incredible since he’s come in. Calm, measured, and meticulous. Props to him and his Team.

As much as i am enjoying the Sheffield United bottle job, there are another 18+ teams i would prefer to be in Boro's position after their promotion party during our last promotion race.

Amazing what he's done, weren't they 21st in the league? And he's mostly just used what he had when he arrived. Top class coaching that.

As a player, he rarely seems to get mentioned when people look at their 'greats' teams for the Prem either. He won 5 league titles, a Champions League, a couple of FA Cups and a Europa League.

He and Paul Scholes with Owen Hargreaves just behind them was a formidable midfield.

Tough one for Sheffield at SoL on Wednesday which will be close to full capacity. Meanwhile over at the Riverside Boro play Stoke midweek then PNE at home.

Carrick has done a brilliant job. Archer and Ramsey two crucial Jan loan signings who have really spurred them on, as well as Akpom’s amazing form (partly down to a tactical switch from Carrick).

Really impressed with Archer. Still a bit raw in parts but he's a constant menace. Our game against them on Good Friday has the makings of a cracker.

Re the Riverside fixture it will be interesting to see which side is best equipped atm for the EPL. They very much went into their shell at the Turf, I expect them to be more rampant this time round and give our defence a severe test.

PNE fans absolutely raved about him and we’re desperate to get him back. Half the league were probably after him tbf.

Yeah absolutely - we could be king makers playing both Blades and Boro soon. I do still think Blades will edge it for promotion, no pun intended.

Yes they were quite negative at the Turf. When I watched them against Sheffield United recently they were the exact opposite. Perhaps that's because of how good we are/were or they hadn't really clicked yet (Archer and Ramsey hadn't signed yet for example). As you say, a good test for us against a side playing PL style football at the moment.

There'll have to be a huge swing in form for the Blades to edge it. They have 10 points from their last 8 games, whereas since Carrick took over, Boro's points accumulation is similar to ours.
Looking at the remaining fixtures I can't see Boro getting fewer than 85 points, and more likely high 80s.
Sheffield will therefore need to get back to picking up 2pts+ per game.

As we know getting front is the easy bit, hanging on when the teams below you have only one option is a different matter. It could be a real ding donger until the end of the season. However methinks Carrick’s experience at United will give Boro the edge over Heckingbottom.

This is where Kompany has done so well. No foot off the gas yet.

Aye, they’re out of form, but twists and turns to come I feel. We have a massive say in all this obviously.

They will be praying for us winning the title at 'Boro, so that we are absolutely knackered and hung over when we play them

I think Kompany will want revenge in this fixture going by his comments after we played them at Brammall lane

And crucially Boro play the night before Sheff United. If they beat Stoke, as you would expect them to, then Sheff United go into that away fixture at Sunderland just a point ahead and if they fail to win are likely to find themselves out of the top two when the line up for their FA Cup QF on Sunday.

That’s true, but Boro are the form team in the Championship at the moment so they’ll be strong favourites. This is a key week for both teams and there’s a decent argument that Sheffield United are more likely to finish second if they get knocked out of the cup this weekend as missing another league game will almost certainly give Boro the chance to go second.

We played them at a good time in the first game because although Carrick had come in and results had started to pick up, they were nowhere near where they are now in terms of organisation, tactics and sheer threat and even after we gifted them a shock lead we still blew them away. They were very negative on the day and looked like they were playing for the point as most teams do at the Turf atm as they recognise their all round inferiority. However, Boro are a totally different animal now and let's hope we can get more points on the board via the games before that one.

I don’t think we need to worry about them catching us, it’s not going to happen. They’ve given themselves a chance of second, but there’s added pressure that comes with that. I think the last time they closed the gap to four points they ended up losing their next game (West Brom). Key week for them this week.

Not quite. Since the Sheffield game, we've P16 W13 D3 L0 F34 A5 Pts 42. they're P17 W14 D0 L3 F40 A16 Pts 42. They've dropped 9 points, we've dropped 6.

Indeed, we finished 12 points behind both Plymouth and Stockport in 1993-94 !

It's still one of the great mysteries how a side with an away record of 4 - 6 - 13 got promoted at all

This is exactly why no one should be writing off our friends down the M65. If they sneek into the top 6, then they've as much chance as any other team, even though they've already lost 14 with 10 to go.

Sheffield United in desperate bid to avoid going into administration https://mol.im/a/11873261 via https://dailym.ai/android

So the club is trying to avoid administration before next Thursday so they can avoid a points deduction 🤔
Surely a deduction should be handed out if administration happens at any point before the last game

If The blades do indeed get docked 12 Lou RS then it would become very interesting for autos. You’d have Boro and another one sneaking up quietly is Luton. Don’t count them out of it yet. Would also bring the donkey diddlers aswell which isn’t ideal.

It's a hard subject to police.

A few clubs have bent previous rules when safely in midtable, taking the points fine when it had no bearing on them.

Maybe just the one league relegation for all teams for consistency?

Impossible for 3rd to play 6th in the final isn't it? (3v 6 is the two-legged semi-final)

It's another loophole that makes a mockery of the system.
You go into administration on Thursday 12 pts deduction.
You go into administration on Friday, nothing.
Especially as if the reports are true, they aren't trying to avoid administration, just delay it 24 hours.

And still the fiasco of the takeover continues. It should be apparent to a blind man by now, that he is just another fraud. If he had an ounce of honesty, then all this talk of administration wouldn't be happening.

Hi Doug - if that was us, didn't we finish in 5th position?
I was just making it sound better, you know, artistic licence..though nil desperandum is exactly right, of course.

The rules are bad. As long as you pay your multi million pound footballers you're good. Don't worry about paying local companies which could face going out of business.

This. Exactly why I have a deep dislike of Leicester and hope they go down this year.

Yes, I recall a certain team finishing in 6th place beating the afore- mentioned 3rd placed Blades.
We finished 5th and played 4th placed Reading. Sheff Utd played 6th placed Preston.

The point of administration, which applies to all companies, is that the directors must go into administration if they believe the company can't pay its debts. If the directors choose to delay administration for any reason, when they ought to have gone into it, they risk being personally liable for the whole debt.

But - Sheffield United won't go into administration unless and until they miss out on promotion. They will believe, and other football clubs have used the same argument, that the company will be able to pay its debts out of the PL promotion money.
