Re: Potter gone
He’d have been gone some time ago had Abramovic still been there but what an astonishing day to see both him and Rodgers gone.

Re: Potter gone
So it cost 22.5m to hire him and I’m sure I read it would cost the same amount if not more to sack him

Re: Potter gone
Will the last PL manager standing please turn the lights off, at this rate there will be nobody left.
I naively thought Potter might be given time to turn Chelsea's fortunes around, however these days that is rarely the case for any managers let alone one of a high profile PL club.

Absolutely worked wonders at Brighton, and was working every level above it, then came Chelsea and ideas way above his station.

Re: Potter gone
On a hiding to nothing with the amount of signings made, lack of top class striker, disjointed squad etc
However, he's had quite a while to try and make it work, but just couldn't seem to do it
He's still highly regarded though, so he'll get another job soon enough.

Re: Potter gone
Ye know, I’ll just copy what I just wrote on the Rodgers thread because it remains relevant. I hadn’t heard about Potter being potted until now.
This farce in the PL with manager after manager going reminded me of a line at the end of Kompany’s interview with Campbell, VK said something that I interpreted as recognising when you are onto a good thing and not thinking the grass will be greener somewhere else, perhaps somewhere with a revolving door.
I do think we will get 3 or 4 years from him at least for that very reason, as long as we are still progressing.

Re: Potter gone
I always thought a club of Chelsea's status was above his station, he's perfect for a "tier 2" type premier league club where the player ego's are perhaps a little less of a problem. How anybody is supposed to Manage 30+ potential first team players though is a nonsense.

Re: Potter gone
It wouldn't surprise me with Chelsea learning of the vacant Leicester job & knowing that potter would be on their radar letting potter go paying him off with some condition attached that Leicester would have to pay Chelsea something if he goes there.

Re: Potter gone
Not sure about ‘working wonders’ at Brighton - nearly took them down and spent quite a bit. Had a very kind press though. Seems like a decent bloke and clearly a decent manager but should never have been offered the job, particularly after sacking somebody like Tuchel.

Hardly surprising.
He’s still a decent a manger but he’s been awful for Chelsea.

Absolutely loved it at Brighton, look at his reaction to the results......Chelsea, however, is a different ball game.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 8:23 pmNot sure about ‘working wonders’ at Brighton - nearly took them down and spent quite a bit. What a hilariously bad appointment this was, if Boehly sacked Tuchel on a whim he deserves everything he gets. Chelsea were an absolute machine under him not surprised at all.

another example of how crap football is becoming.

Roberto De Zerbi was appointed as Graham Potter’s replacement at Brighton in September.
De Zerbi is now the 11th-longest serving Premier League manager.

Re: Potter gone
Might help us with Maatsen? Potter seemed to like to give younger players a go whereas Chelsea are clearly now going to go for the here and now approach with Potter’s replacement, I’d think.
Re: Potter gone
Silly appointment in the first place. He's a reasonably decent coach but you need a kind of Napoleonic audacity to manage that place.

Re: Potter gone
Decent manager and can’t be blamed for taking the job on. Why wouldn’t he want to better himself? Saying that, Chelsea is an awful club.

It’s probably going to be Nagelsmann so not sure if that helps too much.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 8:51 pmMight help us with Maatsen? He wasn't totally happy at all totally happy people don't leave their workplaces to go elsewhere, I think he was reasonably content but he must have felt brighton wasn't enough & a sense of he'd took them as far as was possible.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:05 pmYou've said it all, Pearcey.....He was totally happy at Brighton....and successful.

IF Vincent was to be tempted with the Spurs job..............

Always went for top international managers or lucky former players (for a short time).
Applaud the new regime for giving Potter a chance, after his success with Brighton.

Re: Potter gone
Its carnage in the EPL. They should have got Harry in the first place should Chelsea. He could have pulled off a few tricks. Maybe they could tempt Colin, who is about to oull off a great escape act or Fat Sam. They have missed out on Dyche.

Foolish to think while your stock is high you wouldn’t go to one of the biggest, most successful and wealthiest clubs in Europe from Brighton.
The irony is his record is no better than Dyches. His agent and pr team obviously are though.

Looking at his managerial record on wiikpedia for all the good he did at Brighton his win percentage was higher at Chelsea.

Re: Potter gone
I know, for whatever reason the bigger clubs never fancied dyche & if everton were in a better position & more managers available dyche wouldn't have got a look in there, bielsa wasn't compatible & couldn't agree terms & nobody else really after frank lampard.TravisBickle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 11:06 pmAs above. Re: Potter gone
Maybe they have got rid of him now so they can go for Nagelsmann before Spurs.
