Yes a marvellous signing, has given good and loyal service to the club, a player no-one likes to be up against. Thanks Ash and good luck.

Always felt a bit proprietorial about Ash as I subscribed to the 2013/4 loan scheme which it transpired helped to fund his transfer…or so it was said. A much better footballer than a lot gave him credit for and that has really showed this season. What a marvellous player he has been for us all the more remarkable in that he has had a couple of really nasty injuries in his time here. Very very best of luck Ash

Cheers Ash thanks for the memories.

450k bought us 9 years of service.
Some vital goals.
And a Jose meltdown.

Means Jack Cork is our last remaining scorer from that memorable EL campaign, with Barnes, Vokes, Vydra and Wood all having moved on.

I was one of those who doubted Barnes could contribute much this season, certainly not as a regular starter, however ever since his brace against Rovers he's been inspired, good thing too with Jay being unavailable.

His displays in recent months should ensure he gets a decent Championship club to round off his career, just so long as he doesn't travel down the M65, well apart from when we visit on 25th April.

A quite Brilliant signing for us. A player who used underrated skills and physicality to be master of the dark arts required at times. With Chris Wood was at times almost unplayable and anyone who can seriously get under the skin of Mourinho and the underlyings down the road is worthy of serious praise.

He's done well for the team but he must feel is time at the Turf is coming to a end and why not go out on a high , and I don't think he will be on is own .

Been a great signing.
He's impressed me this season, rolling back the years, but it's right that he moves on now.

I wish him nothing but success in the future.

Got to say was a bit damp eyed watching his interview on Sky the other night after securing promotion. A real fans favourite, gave everything for the club and one who will be remembered by many as the player who terrified rovers on that most excellent day back in November.

Good luck Ash, and thanks for everything.

Although he’s never quite been prolific, when you look at when and where he’s scored his goals he’ll rightly take his place amongst the claret legends.

Scored the goal that got us promoted in 2014
Scored for Burnley at Old Trafford, Anfield, the Emirates, White Hart Lane, the Etihad, Stamford Bridge.
Scored goals against Rovers.
Scored for Burnley in Europe.
Scored one of the goals that got us promoted in 2023.

Will miss him a lot. He’s been the embodiment of this last decade or so and he managed to fit into both styles in that time. A great character in a game that is becoming neutered in that regard.

You've said what I think virtually all of us feel about him, Tony.

Barnsey can be a bit of a loose canon. I'm going to get stick from a lot of people now but he shouldn't have dubbed Rovers with the term he did when speaking to the media. He's a spontaneous ebullient individual. He's got a nasty streak but he's a loveable rogue. He'll get a warm welcome at Ewood but he'll thrive on that.

However, despite all of that, you've said something that I feel is spot on however paradoxical and contradictory it might seem given his behaviour at times.

"... at times, he’s looked as though he’s been a mentor for some of younger players."

He's most definitely played in that way. He's been encouraging the other lads. Never complaining about balls not reaching him etc. When the goal was given to him the other week against Huddersfield - can't recall the match - he pointed to Anass to say it was his. Most forwards wouldn't have done that.

It really is a pity he's not staying because he could have continued to act as a mentor. But he wouldn't cut it in the PL and it's best for him to leave on a high note.

I'd rather see him go to Barnsley than, say, The States. That's presuming he's pals with MD.

Whatever. Wherever he goes I'll want him to do well.

I’m just glad we’ll get to give him a proper send off. A number of the players who were major parts of our success over the last decade went without fanfare (for various reasons).

We should save the plaudits for Ash until after the game at deadwood. Hopefully, he will replicate the performance at Turf Moor and help keep the b@stards a division below us next season,
hence guaranteeing himself legendary status. Now that would be THE way for him to sign off!
I'm fairly certain he's in for a 'warm reception' from the locals, they are certainly not fans of Our Ash!'

His heart is there for all to see. His lice of Burnley is I doubted. His skill is deceptively phenomenal. Very quick to get a shot off. Defenders love him....not.

Inspiring Aye Aye Ashley. Always a Claret and always welcome.

Brilliant article Tony about one of our greats of this Century.
Ash is one of my all time favourites and your mention of him being a mentor for some of our younger players has been very noticeable.
Hope the fans give him some rousing support in all the remaining games.

A tough competitor on the pitch but I suspect a gentle man off it. He had/ has an edge to him and at times played right on it. A classic 100%er, loves being a professional footballer and loves the people who part with their hard- earned money each week to support him and his colleagues.
His time with us is up; he knows that but he also knows that every claret wherever they live will always reserve a place in their heart for him. What lies ahead has yet to reveal itself but safe to say that which ever club acquires his services his commitment to them will be as loyal and devoted as the last nine years have been to us. Thankyou and good luck Ashley Barnes.

Vincent Kompany's football style suits Ashley Barnes, just as it does several other Burnley players. However, age is behind Ashley Barnes, rather than in front of him. This last half season or so Ashley Barnes has shown he's well worth a 2 year contract with another Championship club. Maybe it's his opportunity to add another promotion winning season to his football legacy. He deserves it.

A very quiet man, but a confident person.

That goal against Blackburn....when he "accidentally" placed their 'keeper into the back of the net will live long in the memory.

My favourite forward player. Tough and I can imagine a few CB' s will be breathing a sigh of relief. Had to adapt this season but did so with aplomb. VK kept faith knowing what its like to play against him!!!

He’s so different off the pitch. I’ve spoken to him a couple of times and he’s a really good lad. He is thought always up to no good I’m told in the dressing room. If there’s anything happening then he’s usually behind it. Tom Heaton used to be his target with the practical jokes but Tom thinks the world of him.

Two great memories. Rovers keeper into the net, and getting up Mourinho's nose enough for him to take over the Sky Sports network on the Sunday. :D

Wonderful player.
All guts and heart. This season he has demonstrated some excellent passing skills. Fridays goal against Boro was superb.
The interview with Ash on Sky ( after the game) gave us a hint that the decision to leave at the end of the season is more his.

I would like to see a banner made for Ashley Barnes and unfolded at the last game of the season. I’m sure there would be enough people who would be willing to contribute. The image of Ashley’s goal against those down the road stands out for me. Although I’m sure there are many other images of Ashley’s goal celebrations that would be a fitting image. Always a Claret legend
