Re: Watford
Sackings aren’t quite the lucrative ending that they used to be. Hell so I’m out of it but you don’t go to Watford expecting a three year contract and to be paid in full.

Re: Watford
Do you know the details of the contract. There is only so many times the Italian owners will have had their pants taken down. It will be more of-its a short term contract, we need to be in the play-offs, and if you dont achieve you are out, with something like 3 months pay, if you succeed we will consider a longer contract
Re: Watford
But of course that means that they can't get a manager who has a better offer in the pipeline. They can only sign managers who can't get a job anywhere else.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 11:49 amDo you know the details of the contract. Re: Watford
Well...without wishing to do a meh kind of post it just shows how lucky we got because had we appointed any one of the numerous Championship managers who have been sacked this season we may now be facing down the barrel of a gun....!
And quite a few them have had reasonable track records like Wilder. So, appointing managers seems to be a dark art for most club chairmen
That ALK secured a young inexperienced manager with a decent, but no more so, record in management is either: a stroke of genius or incredibly lucky.
Saying that And this is the issue - sometimes appointing new managers works for example, Carrick at Boro. Also, worked at Chelsea for a while albeit helped by Roman A's money pot.

Still no idea why Little and Blake were on the bench, what did Blake play? 10 mins? Joke of a performanceElectroClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 8:15 pmIncidentally, Thursday will be exactly 20 years since that woeful display at Vicarage Road in the Cup quarter final.
Horrible day.

Managers aren't going to sign without the chance of a decent severance package eitherwarksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 11:49 amDo you know the details of the contract. Re: Watford
And yet we hammered Fulham in the previous round, 3-0 i think.
Wasn't it the same team?
If so, it makes the Watford performance even more baffling.

Re: Watford
We did however a couple of factors went in our favour that evening, Fulham had played only 48 hours earlier in the PL, and they got a man dismissed early in the 2nd half which made our task much easier than it might have been, though given how much we dominated that night we'd probably have won even if they had kept 11 on the park,ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 7:35 pmAnd yet we hammered Fulham in the previous round, 3-0 i think.

Burnley: Beresford, West, Diallo, Cox, Branch, Briscoe, Cook (Weller 76), Grant (McGregor 90), Alan Moore (Little 82), Ian Moore, Taylor.
Subs not used: Michopoulos, Blake.
So a very similar team yes, with Blake and Little not featuring much in either game.

Re: Watford
I remember Ian Moore flicking the ball over the keeper against Fulham for one of the goals in a manner that would have had Messi envious.
Which shocked me somewhat...

EFL now looking into their transfer dealings, particularly the one earlier in the season with current player Hassane Kamara ‘sold’ to Udinese for 17m, only to be loaned straight back for the season. About time.

Common sense tells you it's dodgy as hell, they're just playing the rules.

Re: Watford
Doesn't look like Wilder will last past the end of his short contract.
They're trying to line up Francesco Farioli for the first part of next season.
Yeah, I've never heard of him either.

Re: Watford
Most of his career as goalkeeping coach. Hoping for a record clean sheets next season?
Re: Watford
Perhaps next season's managers are going to run from positions 1-11 in order. first a goalkeeper, then a right back, then a left back, and so on up to the left winger for the 11th manager of the season. (And up to 5 substitutes!)

Watford confirming they're not going to sack Wilder before the end of the season, what a time to be alive
