Reading v Clarets Match Thread
Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
Frustrating. Reading arguably one of the worst teams we’ve played.
Too many changes to the starting 11 and unlucky with injuries.
Really don’t see what Churlinov offers.

Think VK has learnt once more who's up to it and who isn't.
Can't imagine that we will see another heavily rotated side again this season

4-2 away at Bournemouth , what you on about ?agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 4:55 pmWe fielded a lot of players who haven’t played much. It was never going to be a sharp performance, in the same way the FA Cup performances weren’t.

Decent point given not the best performance....I think a lot of recruitment will be needed....but providing we keep the manager no reason not to be positive...a point at Reading is a lot better than normal.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
Not our best performance, however we looked the only team likely to score.
Another clean sheet and point on the board, unbeaten run continues 21 now,
What is concerning is the injuries mounting up Tella in particular.
Always a risk with the number of changes, but it's got to be something VK tries to gauge whether some of these players are up to the task or not.
Sounds like Twine had a good game, Benson was lively before he went off.

away to a side fighting against the drop
new manager
played the final part with 10 men
i'd say thats a good point
and we'd rather win the title at home, wouldnt we?

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
That was a crap result, why try and deny it.
The changes looked like they'd be costly, but it seems most had a good game.
The problem wasn't the changes, it's the same as we have had before this season. Possession is pointless, IF you don't work the keeper. We fall into the same trap that City sometimes do, we try and walk the ball into the net. When we get the ball, and bodies into the box , we're fine.
Barnes and Zaroury came on far too late, 10 mins to get the result was never likely to be enough.
The unbeaten run continues, but what a waste.

That was a really poor performance. Foster,Twine and Churlinov are not even remotely close to premier league quality. VK made too many changes and it showed by being really disjointed

Hunt had Reading well organized fir a point and weren’t good enough on the day to break em down. We haven’t won at Reading in the last 17 attempts ( 1981 last win I think )
Hope we are not going to finish the season with a whimper. It’s been fantastic let’s keep it that way

Well it is the changes because we looked out of sync - one player passing into space for a player they thought had made a run but had come short etc - that sort of thingColburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 5:01 pmThat was a crap result, why try and deny it.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
We weren’t poor by any means, let alone ‘really poor’. Final ball lacking and with a left hand side or Taylor & Churlinov we looked quite rusty / rigid down that side compared to the usually dynamic Maatsen & Zaroury. Main positive I felt was Twine who looked sharp and our most creative source. Some have been writing him off but easily our best attacker today.
I was never arsed about the record. 100 would be nice, stay unbeaten at home and beat those lot next week.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
A point was fair similar to Blackpool but to many changes and injuries picked up . Foster is going to have to seriously start to motor because he is nowhere good enough for the championship nevermind the premiership.

Thought Churlinov looked decent with his cameo roles earlier in the season. Not sure how bad his injury was but he’s looked very average since his return.
Foster… I just can’t see anything.

I don't think churlinov will play again. Very poor.
Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
A bloke plays his first (nearly) full game in months and you’ve written him off? Thankfully our manager has more sense.
Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
I haven't seen Churlinov have a good performance all season. He doesn't seem to have the control he needs at this level.
Perhaps he needs a full pre-season?

A bad game doesn't mean he won't play again.
Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
Fringe players:
BPF - nothing to do but Muric is crucial to our game
Al-Dakhil - pretty solid
Taylor - not bad, but again Maatsen is crucial to our game
Twine - good game, looked to be the most dangerous attacker, very surprised he was hooked
Churlinov - incredibly poor
Foster - poor, we should quite rightly be expecting more from him at this point. A worry for me.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
I don’t get to see many games but how did we win this division by so much.
We were so poor today. Predictable … slow … absolutely nothing up front.
Benson … no end product. Foster not even near a championship striker if a league one …
Churlovic or whatever his name is … not good enough.
Maybe they have played better in other games
But this must be a very poor league.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
Churlinovs best showing for us, was against Ipswich in the cup, and even then he wasn’t the standard of our other attacking players.
I’m happy to be proven wrong, but he doesn’t look up to it for me.

A point ok for me. You can’t win them all. Line up not the best particularly with forced changes. Promotion then title the most important things for me. If we get to 100 points then it’s a bonus.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
Officials shocking today, something really needs to be done about keepers holding onto the ball for 20 seconds a time, however we weren’t good enough.
Twine and foster need start in games with the best 11 not when there are 5 or 6 changes
Benson must not be fit it took until left back was dead on his feet before benson dared to take him on

Ipswich in the cup isn’t a yardstick to judge anyone by, no one came out of either game with much credit.

It's not just this game though, not seen anything every game he's played. Look, this has been an absolutely unbelievable season and there are very little negatives but even vk said he'd expect a few of his signings to be flops. I do get things wrong and this could be another thing but he's been consistently poor when hes played.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
He looked good before his injury early in the season since when he’s hardly had a look in getting the odd few minutes from the bench and some cup games. If you judged any of our players from just the cup games (apart from Bournemouth when we played a strong team) you’d find many of them wanting. I’m not saying he’s going to be a great player, just that it’s not possible to write him off from what we’ve seen.WazzaClaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 5:19 pmIt's not just this game though, not seen anything every game he's played. Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
And if that’s the best he’s been all season? Doesn’t bode well.
I’m more than happy to give players chances, sometimes you see glimpses, as with Foster, he just looks raw.
I don’t feel Churlinov offers anything, his first touch is alright, when he was 30 yards around him, but that’s about it.

Losing Tella so early was the disaster. We were totally unbalanced after that. Churlinov and Foster didn’t add enough. The long season is catching up with us but 106 is still on as is the unbeaten run.
Shame but move on.

Big chance for Foster and Churlinov and both fluffed their lines. Thought Twine was decent. Too many changes though. Similar to the cup games, we’re not as slick and teams looking to completely neutralise a game, like Reading today, have a slightly easier time of it. Benny has to score though. VK will have learnt a lot about the squad.

Re: Reading v Clarets Match Thread
But we've played games already this season, with our best players on the pitch, where we haven't worked the keeper. It's something we do every so often. No shame, just disappointing.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 5:03 pmWell it is the changes because we looked out of sync - one player passing into space for a player they thought had made a run but had come short etc - that sort of thing
VK would benefit for judging the state of the game, by how much we are working the keeper. If he'd done that changes might have been made sooner.
The players who haven't featured need the game time, I agree that so many at once risks us looking disjointed, but we kept the ball well, we just didn't use it.

A game that gave our fringe players a chance to stake a claim for next season
Unfortunately they pretty much all failed to do so
Cork and JBG will be too slow in the Premier League
Foster, Twine and Churlinov have featured very little in the Championship and today, against a poor side, you could see why

At least the pressure of beating the points record has gone now,we are going to win the league and quite comfortably.Bit of squad rotation today and we’ve picked up a point away at a team that are fighting for their lives and extended our unbeaten run to 21 games.

Whilst i wasn’t keen on the number of changes today, we still had enough to win that easily.
3 good chances wasted.
Also if Tella had stayed on I believe we would have won at a canter.
Churlinov offered little and ballooned our best opportunity over the bar.
