Coventry city are smaller then we are in nearly every metric. Honours, historic attendances, total season in the top flight, recent history over the last 20 years. The only things they beat us on are size of their current ground and size of their city and catchment area. If them having a bigger ground and being a bigger city make them a bigger club then us then so be it. By that logic MK dons are a much, much bigger club then we are.

For what its worth and possibly the cause of the OP's original Mallorcan debate in the first place, didn't Ian Maatsen, who had been at Coventry on loan in season 21-22, say when he joined last summer that he wanted to come to Burnley because it was a bigger club than Coventry?

The 'we're bigger than you' debate is the most done and pointless debate going.

The only clubs that entertain this are the clubs that have won very little yet feel they should have done.

You're big when you win things. Hence, Burnley don't need to be involved in this.

It was Maasten who said he was joining a bigger club and it seems to have really upset the little luvs.

A pal of mine had the same argument with a cov fan down south when he casually mentioned over a pint he was a Claret, and this guy really started beating his chest about it. All a bit weird.

Coventry possibly the most meh club ever. Big city huge catchment area, done the square root of **** all, other Midlands clubs dont class them as rivals because they're a bit of a non entity. I'd pipe down if I was you.

As you were, UTC

Coventry is a bigger place but not sure bigger club but if they get back to the premiership and maintain they could be with a decent stadium and fan base.

A fair indicator of which club is "bigger" is the fact we lent them a player.

Entered the league in 1919-20 had one long spell in the First Division /Preemier 1967-1968 to 2000-2001. Winning 1 FA Cup.

I think that itself explains which is the most important historical club. That is more important than size, which I consider a fairly arbitrary measurement that the football club has no power over.

Coventry was formed from the Singer Factory that catered for the Victorian bicycle craze (clothing) to make which they invented the sawing machine.

Burnley was formed when Burnley was among the wealthiest areas in the country (the club backed mainly by Trafalgar Mill and Massey’s Brewery) and certainly had a major part in the movement of the football league from the earliest days.

If Coventry fans truly believe they support a bigger club than Burnley then they should be pretty ****** off with their massive underachievement over the last fifty years.

If all the Clubs in the Midlands decided to merge and create a 'Superclub' they wouldn't bother contacting Coventry.

Not a good example as the Weghorst loan was unusual. Generally smaller clubs borrow off bigger ones.

Found myself in a debate recently in Majorca with a bunch of Coventry fans, they thought they was much bigger than us and give the usual ‘Burnley’s a shithole’

I think we are bigger and it’s not even close.
Yes we are because we’re a division higher :D

If you’ve ever been to Sandwell, you’ll know the answer to that.

No they've never been Champions of England.

Neither have West Ham and Bolton, who we're also bigger than. 8-)

It did read like I was asking a question, but it was rhetorical. Are you being ironic? WHU are bigger than us; Bolton, anything but.

Its generally accepted in English football that how big a club you are should be judged on how many major trophy's you have won in the last decade.

For clubs who haven't won anything in the last 10 years then the bigger club is deemed the one who most recently won a major trophy.

Major trophy's for the purpose of this consists of the Premier League (or old 1st Division), FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League / European Cup and the Europa League / UEFA Cup / UEFA Cup Winners Cup

As Coventry won the FA Cup in 1987 then they should undoubtedly be considered the bigger of the two clubs
That took a while

Always find the 'who is a bigger club' debate a bit weird.
There is no definition of what constitutes as a big club.
Size of city? Success?
Who cares? Get on with winning games on the pitch.
