Re: Glastonbury 2023
Read allthe other posts on AM so I’ll chuck my threepennorth in. Great lyrics mainly “sung” rap like, not for me, but I was finger tapping when I rather be toe tapping or even better head banging. Love some of the stuff but far too much is average. They’ll rake in squillions for years to come.
God knows how somebody further back compared them to Muse. Not in the same league.

Awful post.Spiral wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 12:42 amPaul McCartney is influential, but that doesn't mean he's good. If the Beatles are the godfathers of modern pop music, has anyone considered the possibility that the absolute state of modern pop music can technically trace a line through to Paul McCartney? Just saying like. He's responsible for it all. In a way Paul McCartney actually wrote wet ass pussy.

I was okay if you have a sense of humour.
Re: Glastonbury 2023
Paul McCartney the best song writer this country has ever produced are you having a laugh “Frog Song”. The most overrated maybe but far from the best IMHO

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Axl rose is an anagram of oral sex if you didn't know, GnR peaked really with appetite for destruction & use your illusion I think spaghetti incident followed up which was a flop & faded away after that, for awhile they was massively liked.
Re: Glastonbury 2023
Not impressed much with what I heard/saw of day 1. That said, I didn't watch the Arctic monkeys, as I always thought they were overrated dross, fronted by a knob putting on a ridiculous cross between a Leeds and West ham accent.
More to the point, their appearance clashed with a re-run of that Chelsea v burnley first game of the season drubbing that we gave them. You can keep Alex cokk. I'd rather watch defour, vokes, ward and Ben mee. That day even Robbie Brady and hendrick were a better watch than the Arctic monkeys.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
I've seen them a few times live and I know it's hard to tell from the TV but I thought they looked and sounded way off their best last night.
That said I don't think the music from their last two albums (even though there's some really good stuff in there) is really suited to a live gig in an arena or a festival anyway. It doesn't travel well at the best of times.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
I'm not much of a fan, and I've always thought they were overrated, like all too many Brit bands who suddenly find themselves being championed by the media here in the UK when they've hardly cut their teeth on the small gig circuit, but you are right. Their new stuff isn't going to suit large festivals or TV fans who only know I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor and When the Sun Goes Down.JohnMcGreal wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 8:14 amThat said I don't think the music from their last two albums (even though there's some really good stuff in there) is really suited to a live gig in an arena or a festival anyway. I’m impressed with Gabriels, but I’m not sure it’s suited to a festival.

I thought Foo Fighters were good, shows the class of Glastonbury to have them as a semi-secret set - the Foo Fighters. Was out for the evening so going to catch up on Iplayer, then tonight meet up for a sad night with others who couldn't get tickets this year.
Friends down there for the first time are loving it, as are those who been many times. If there's a better festival I've not seen, watched or read about

Re: Glastonbury 2023
I felt that Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys looked like the kind of person who would dislike Young Alex Turner - he looked quite uncomfortable playing the old bangers.
Which is funny because now Alex Turner is like a cheesy old crooner that Young Alex Turner would have written a scathing song about.

The thing you have to realise with AM is that, they’ll do what they want and always have done. They won’t just play big hits because that’s the “Glastonbury” thing to do or get special guests. It was quite refreshing in that sense. The biggest Glastonbury headline moments have always been colabs which are cool yeah, but quite sad at the same time.

At this point he’s lived longer in LA than he ever did in Sheffield

Re: Glastonbury 2023
I do like all this he’s crap, they’re crap stuff.
I learned a long time ago that music is a very personal thing so would not be critical of anyone else’s choice of music.
Having said that, Diana Ross was crap last year.

Thing is, bands evolve and change, or else they end up dull. A kind of tribute act of their younger selves. Just look at the samey turds Oasis were churning out before their breakup. Mind you, I'm not the best person to analyse them. I only liked Defiantly Maybe. I thought their output after that debut album, though commercially very successful, was a much of a muchness.

See Damon Albarn for a fantastic example of how an artist from the same era as the Gallaghers has evolved and diversified whilst still producing great music.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 12:11 pmThing is, bands evolve and change, or else they end up dull. As for the Arctic Monkeys, I liked their older music and it was certainly of its time. Not really a great fan of their more recent stuff and it’s certainly less suited to a festival headline act. But I’m still able to appreciate the musicianship and was still entertained by their set, albeit it went through stale periods. No idea how it went down with the crowd as that didn’t seem to come across on the coverage.

I'd agree with that. If you have to start pulling out gimmicks it's one of the signs that you shouldn't be there in the first place.Dyched wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 11:53 amThe thing you have to realise with AM is that, they’ll do what they want and always have done. Last saw GnR in Miami in 2017 during their Not in this lifetime tour and they were outstanding. If Axl wants to play, and by all accounts he's well up for it, they'll be the stars of the weekend..Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 12:06 pmI await to be massively disappointed with Guns n Roses

If Guns n Roses are up for it and on form could be the highlight of the weekend. It's a big if though.

I don’t like his music at all but that’s a personal choice. As a person he seems brilliant. Really funny.

I rate the fact Capaldi just cracks on. I feel many artists would have called it a day with a similar diagnosis but hats off to him for continuing to perform. He is also very funny at times and a few of his songs are very catchy.

Just enjoyed watching Lightening Seeds from yesterday. Quite a few bum notes in Brodie’s voice but plenty of 90’s foot tappers.
