Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Gyokeres evidently wants to play for Porting Lisbon and agreed terms. Coventry want more money. Not sure Gyokeres would be so motivated elsewhere.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Gyokeres is OK but I just never thought he'd fit into our team,I reckon we've dodged a bullet.

Im not sure about dodging a bullet as such but I agree about struggling to see him fit in the team.
Clearly got goals in him and he is a strong forward but Im a bit 'meh' about him still for some reason.

The Lokonga deal has gone very quiet, I really like the look of him. He now has Premier League experience and will hopefully thrive being back under VK. Him and Vrancx in midfield would be a powerful looking force.

Really not interested in the slightest to the extent I’d be underwhelmed, borderline worried if we did sign him. Didn’t like his finishing in our two games against them. Excellent Championship player but not sure he’ll make the step up.

Really hoping we can afford to get Tella. Checked on Southampton’s website and he’s not listed under either the First Team or B Team squads. There’s an article showing their squads are in training. Really hoping this means Southampton are moving on without Nathan. But can we get the deal done. Any insights?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I can forgive Kompany this mistake in the transfer market. He got most of the other signings right. We’ll just have to hope that we can either loan Foster out or better yet sell him and put the bit of money we might get for him towards someone half decent.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We have been making money on Weghorst. We managed to get two loan payments last season. We got one from Besiktas then, according to the press, Utd had to pay them off and pay us a loan fee. I think, due to the size of the clubs, that his wages will have been paid as well. Keep loaning him and we will have had our money back and got away without paying wages
. We are doing a Chelsea but in a minute way compared to their 50 odd loanees.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Foster had to get used to moving to another country and used to a different style of play. He was getting better towards the end of the season and looked really good at Bristol City. It was a shame he got concussed. He has the pace and strength needed in the Premier and I actually think he has something about him which, hopefully, a pre season will sort. Kompany and Bellamy have obviously seen something to pay the money they did. These players need to be given time. Quite a few of the players didn't really look good at the start last season, Benson especially, but they came good with more practice and once they had settled into a new environment and country.StayingDown4Ever wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 11:02 pmI can forgive Kompany this mistake in the transfer market. I think this is a good point. I thought Benson was going to be a dud. Looked fast but couldn't cross and couldn't shoot. At Watford he felt the physicality of the championship and went into his shell. Kompany took him out of the firing line and when he came back in he was somthing else. Kompany probably told the other players to rough him up in trainingCommy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 11:15 pmFoster had to get used to moving to another country and used to a different style of play. Tella didn't exactly hit the ground running either and he already had experience of the English league.

I, too, think that the 22 year old we signed from a different country should be considered an utter failure at this point. After all, he's played in a whole 11 games, and racked up a massive 362 minutes. That's a whole 33 minutes per appearance! I mean, come on. He should be scoring braces in each one at the minimum.
Kompany needs to forget all the careful scouting he did and press the sell button on this guy. Bin him off ASAP. Like you said, hopefully we'll get a 'bit' of the money we paid for him back. I've always said, give a new player from a foreign league 11 appearances. If he's not scored at least 10 goals by then, sell him at a loss.

I see the Foster bashing has resumed (if it ever stopped)
I’d like to see how well those perform within their first 6 months of moving to a new country and joining an established group of workers

Obafemi is my early prediction, and of course Brownhill (“not good enough for the premier league”) will be back because he gets overrun by 200m worth of midfielders a couple of timesAGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 7:53 amAlmost ever single season there's a player for whatever reason the fan's like to get on the back of and moan about regardless, Hendrick was one Muric last season and many more before them and it looks like this season's new target will be Foster![]()

You can be critical of players, it’s what makes a football forum interesting.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 8:02 amObafemi is my early prediction, and of course Brownhill (“not good enough for the premier league”) will be back because he gets overrun by 200m worth of midfielders a couple of times
I have always been critical of Brownhill at prem level. I just don’t think he’s remotely shown he has the ability. Not to say I don’t think he will be useful. I just personally think if we are to be successful we need better midfielders.

He will likely struggle against a few of the very best midfielders in the world, but will also play well against the bottom half sides, it’s just wrong to determine someone isn’t good enough to play in the league if he’s a few levels below the best players.

Yet he has played pretty much every game at that level since joining us. You should just accept you got it wrong, why do you have these way over the top comments ? Previously you said he wasn't even a footballer and now it is that he hasn't remotely shown any ability when the truth is he has.

In my personal opinion he gives the ball away far too much to be a prem player. Passing is just not his strength.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 8:18 amHe will likely struggle against a few of the very best midfielders in the world, but will also play well against the bottom half sides, it’s just wrong to determine someone isn’t good enough to play in the league if he’s a few levels below the best players.
I personally think VK will be actively trying to improve on that position this summer. Not to say Brownhill won’t have a role, but I just hope he isn’t in our starting eleven.

Not good enough to win the Premier League maybe but certainly watching last season’s matches they are good enough for the Premier League led by Kompany.
It’s always about how the team plays and my position on new players is that they may determine our final position rather than whether we stay out of the bottom three. We are good enough for that already.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Unfortunately I don’t believe this to be the case. We didn’t receive a loan fee for Wout but his wages at Besiktas were partially covered. When he moved to united it required us to agree to releasing him as we had no recall clause in the contract. Hence Besiktas agreed to it in receipt of compensation of roughly £2.3m. We then asked United to pay us compensation of £2.5m to cover this. United then covered his full wages when they took him for the rest of the season. So other than saved wages and a minimal admin fee for sorting the January move we haven’t benefited financially at all.Commy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 11:07 pmWe have been making money on Weghorst.
