Ps… hypothetically crying or not, is it ok to cry about such an ethical issue, when you’ve witnessed the absolute carnage it can bring to friends or even family members who have quite obviously been targeted with free bets and endorsements despite ‘taking a break’? CheersHagridsHut wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 12:16 pmI don’t know if you have Twitter but everyone is crying about it on there, it’s ridiculous. Out of interest or not, that’s a hypothetical question which can only be dealt with as and when.

Interesting that you wouldn’t be opposed to having a porn site on the front of a kit seen by thousands of kids though. That would seem highly inappropriate to me.
Those who are opposed to this sponsorship deal have perfectly valid views whether you agree or not. As do those who have no problem with it.
I’ve endured your questions and I think you’re being a bit silly now. You’ve created a new argument now which has come away from the actual subject of gambling sponsors.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have made my feelings known frequently, calling out SkyBet’s sponsorship and their half time adverts that’s played to stadiums containing thousands of children being examples of this.
Now that I’ve respectfully responded to your question, may I politely ask that you respond to mine, rather than steer your own agenda. Much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for enduring my questions. I haven’t created a new argument, your argument was that it’s ‘only a shirt sponsor’. I wanted to know whether it would only be a shirt sponsor if it was something more sordid than a gambling firm, and in fairness you stuck to you principles with that by saying you’d be fine with a porn website on the shirt, which I’ve got to say is surprising.HagridsHut wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 1:09 pmI’ve endured your questions and I think you’re being a bit silly now. If we all agreed boys life would be boring. Gambling sponsorship is a problem, and is being phased out of main shirt sponsoring. Of course it would be better to have a classic football shirt again but as we need the money we have to make exceptions. Gambling SHOULD be removed from all parts of football, it doesn’t need advertising. But untill then we make do.

You are basically saying, I infer, that you are a snowflake or have an ‘issue’, if you don’t agree with gambling endorsements, even if you have seen a loved one or a very close friend, have their life turned upside down by being targeted by gambling firms? If you could clarify that for me, then it would be much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I don't know why these grubby gambling companies are wasting tens of millions on advertising when it clearly doesn't make any difference according to some geniuses on here and elsewhere.

Unfortunately everyone who becomes an addict can't be saved. Banning or making something illegal doesn't stop addictions. Addicts will always find a way, wether it's gambling, drugs, alcahol, junk food, smoking, vaping etc.
People need to be responsible for themselves and IMO advertising on football shirts doesn't make anyone an addict. Not wanting a gambling company as our sponsors won't stop people gambling or stop people starting to gamble, it will just make some people who don't like gambling feel a bit better.
I personally couldn't care less who our sponsors are and think our club should go with the highest bidder. This is just my opinion and I'm not looking for an argument if you disagree with it.

Re: Next seasons shirt sponsor.
Very well put and reasoned response. No issues with that whatsoever, and nor am I saying that people should not have the right to gamble. It’s a pastime that has been enjoyed by millions, including myself for a good number of years. I just personally think, it’s not a good look in the present day. It’s an interesting discussion and I obviously see the opposing view. What interests me here is the instant calling out and belittling of others that take place for having a view on such a strong ethical issue, where they may have seen friends/family destroyed because of gambling. It’s evidenced in this thread…you’ve made your points considerately and of course, they will be respected by most; whereas some are just desperate to jump on and call out people for having a different view, with clearly no thought for why such views might exist in the first place. It’s sad to see. Thank youFirthy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 5:36 pmUnfortunately everyone who becomes an addict can't be saved. Banning or making something illegal doesn't stop addictions. Doesn't it work both ways though, one person has no issue with it and happy that their club is receiving a substantial fee someone else doesn't like it and decides it wants it banned.

Tinned rice pudding should be banned. It's awful stuff compared to home made especially as it has no crispy skin on it. I'm sure the tinned rice pudding eaters on here will disagree but that's OK we're all entitled to our own opinion even if it's wrong as in this caseclaretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 9:40 amI wouldn't be too hasty in calling for rice pudding not to be banned

Why does being a poster against gambling endorsements …warrant being accused of crying
… warrant being called a snowflake?
…warrant being accused of being a person with ‘the issue’
You tell me that that is acceptable?

So being called a snowflake or accused of having an issue, when you are, perhaps someone sat trying to write a difficult post about a very ethical issue, maybe because a close family friend, or a loved one has taken their own life due to manipulation by betting firms, targeting them with online offers, and deals… people shouldn’t take offence at that or perhaps be a little triggered by it?

I am happy the club has agreed a good sponsorship deal yes, but I have only questioned why something should be banned due to someone not agreeing with it, if that constitutes abuse then it is probably better to say nothing.
