Keep the chase around 400 and we’re still in this

Trouble is the Aussies will employ the same, short pitched tactics, and we won't be able to get anywhere near 400.

It was the Aussie bowlers who first used the short pitched bowling tactic in the first innings to good effect and England have now followed suit. It worked for Australia first time around so why change it.
On a two paced wicket scoring 400 runs will be extremely difficult especially against short pitched bowling when scoring shots will be limited.

Not had a Bodyline Series since 1933/1934. Will be very boring to watch that’s for sure.

What would you describe it as?
If you look back at the history of test cricket, the side with the the highest run rate of all time are Sri Lanka with an average of just below 3.1 runs per over. All other nations are obviously below this, so I wouldnt call 3 runs an over plodding.

Substitute plod for another word then, my point still stands. Had we batted conservatively at 3 runs per over there’s no saying that we would have ended in a better position.

If the whole object of BAZ ball is to score runs quickly that becomes a lot more difficult against short pitched bodyline bowling, as England found in the first innings and Australia in their second. Bodyline is a negative tactic to stop teams scoring freely. England deployed it in 1933/1934 with just one aim - to stop Don Bradman scoring.

This was the point I was making. Australia leaving everything for the best part of an hour and scoring, what 20 runs(?), and still lost a wicket.

Any batsman that attempts any attacking shots is soon walking towards the pavilion. Scoring 300 plus on this 2 paced wicket against short pitched bowling will be extremely difficult.

With Lyon unlikely to bowl soon is Pope likely to be able to bat for England with his shoulder?

Nathan Lyon may not be scoring but crucial time being taken out of the game as far as the Aussies are concerned.

I always used to enjoy the chaos of a runner on the pitch but it's some years now since it was allowed.
