Debate

wouldn it not make sense to move all away fans out of the cricket field stand and move them into the lower longside?
surely most people in there would jump at the chance of the move into the cricket, make opposition support weaker and make the Turf bouncing…. like VK said let’s make turf moor Hell for the opposing team

I’ve never got why anyone would choose to be behind a goal.
It’s a far better view from the sidelines for a fuller picture of what is happening.

I've been a season ticket holder across stands but have settled in JMU with a great view.

Moving them to another stand would require an enormous amount of work for very little gain
In the lower section of the long side or JML would leave them exposed to the elements, the risk of stuff being thrown at them from fans above them
Also the hospitality sections would also need to be partitioned/protected from away fans
Then it’s accessing the area safely for away fans, you’d need to do work in the car park to ensure it could happen but the players also need access to CFS due to changing rooms
It’s a daft idea logistically for the club, especially as the cfs is probably the most likely stand to be replaced

The logistics of getting them to and from the JHL rules it out. The directors in the Bob Lord rule that out unless somehow they move to the JHU.

I sit in the Longside Lower. Wouldn't want to be in the Cricket Field Stand for various reasons. View being the main factor.

I’d split them between the tiers (like Villa do) on the longside closest to the tunnel. They would have the cricket club to booze in still and the walkway down. Matbeven make it easier to police. I understand it may make some people have to walk a longer way round but the atmosphere is poor in that corner and so it would benefit the home atmosphere, you can hardly hear anyone in the cricket field stands. I propose this as someone who has sat in block one of the longside upper for the last 10 years so it would affect my seat, but I’d survive. It would need the inside and outsides splitting with fences, and the cricket field entrance going back to one side entry, so it wouldn’t happen.

I concur with what you say now. But, when I was younger, much younger, behind the goals was the place I wanted to watch the game from.

Do any top flight clubs just have away fans in the lower tier along the side? Wolves are the only ones that spring to mind but i may be wrong

Bournemouth place away fans on the side of the pitch, but they’ve only got one tier
From memory majority of grounds I’ve been too the away fans were behind a goal

I can imagine the uproar if SKY decided to have their main footage from behind a goal. I get the atmosphere thing as traditionally, that’s where the most vociferous support is based, at nearly all clubs. The view though, is bobbins.
I don’t go to lots of away games, perhaps I’d get more used to it if I did, but for the games I do go to, I really don’t enjoy being stuck behind a goal.

Behind the nets is generally inferior but if you’re behind a Benson 25 yard screamer, there’s no better place to be IMO

What we should move is the TV camera angle so it’s facing the Longside. Nicer, more modern stand and at least some atmosphere. Get the home end of the CFS on the picture more. Proper Burnley 2.0 in the Prem stuff then. Why can’t it be done?

Can’t see the managers/bench as that’s part of the appeal to viewers, seeing managers flapping their arms around etc

Can’t see that at quite a few stadiums? Etihad, Old Trafford, Emirates, Stamford Bridge…

When people suggest moving away fans into the Jimmy mac lower or longside lower they always forget to think.
Think about how it would effect the corporate boxes and hospitality in these areas that bring in a lot of revenue and think about how easy/hard it would be to implement effecting segregation in these stands and areas around the ground without rebuilding the whole stand.
It can’t happen happen.
The town end of the bob lord stand could work but it wouldn’t hold enough, to hold enough you would have to move the directors box and the corporate seats and where do you put them? And overall what would the benefit of moving everyone around and doing all of the infrastructural work to make it happen achieve?
Yes you could rebuild the Jimmy mac to make the new stand able to house away fans with segregation in the stand and outside, but would that be the best use of funds?

I don’t watch lots of tv games, but from what I’ve seen in the past they always show the benches on tv.
What’s the hang up over the Bob Lord?
Also, we have to consider the ability to have cameras in other areas of the ground, it’s not just a case of plonking them anywhere

If we put the away fans in the Jimmy Mac lower. We would make 5 pound a head more. We charge home fans 25 in there and away fans 30.
It would also keep more home fans dry when it pees down.

Not been in there for years after vowing never to go back in. The view is shite.
The Lower longside is terrible for getting wet but the view is a little better.
The upper tiers and both older stands are far better.

I moved back into the JHL from the CFS 2 years ago because the view was **** poor, underneath the stand is an accident waiting to happen and was fed up of the coke heads.
You couldn’t get a pint down there without missing half of the game.

Build a new stand where the Cricket stand is similar to the Darwen end at Ewood , 8,000 capacity with a line of executive boxes ( away supporters could stay where they are currently) . The players changing rooms & Media section could be built where the tunnel currently is in the corner , plenty of room but wouldn’t be cheap .

This is a terrible idea.
The reason Burnley fans make noise in the Cricket Field is because the away fans are next to them. The appeal of the stand is that both sets of fans bounce off each other with songs. They can both hear each other perfectly, can both abuse each other equally, and there’s a oneupmanship to it all.
For years when vocal Clarets were in the Longside upper and lower there were loads of times where the away fans were really noisy, but the Longside couldn’t hear them, and vice versa. In fact, the upper Longside couldn’t even hear the lower Longside such are the poor acoustics of a two tier stand. You need both sets of fans to hear each other perfectly.
Oh, and logistically it wouldn’t work to move them. How would you get them in and out of the stadium without fans mingling post-match when emotions are high?

That will be a shame. I sit adjacent to the away stand and I just love the abuse I get from away fans.
The atmosphere created when the Toon arrive is electric.
