The old brigade worked...the new brigade are useless,if it isn't broke don't fix it.
The 'old brigade' had become a parody of themselves long before they were finally pensioned off. Thompson couldn't move beyond his Anfield bias, Merson's determination to make beans-on-toast/post a thing was just a symptom of his wider idiocy (and he's still useless) and that's before you get to Le Tissier's journey to full tinfoil helmetdom.

You can argue about the quality of the replacements all you like but it doesn't mean the decision to pension off a set of past-their-sell-by-date presenters was the wrong one.

Pension off the old guard and replace it with some new, fresh and insightful input from…….TIM SHERWOOD?

It’s not some sort of entitled right to argue if the premise is that the replacements are inferior, it’s a valid right to argue that the policy to replace is flawed. It’s a complete contradiction to deny that right.

He was so good West Ham got a 0-0 draw against a team that got relegated.
Incredible in that game was Rice, one of the best live performances I’ve seen, very impressive.

As a matter of interest, do nice people generally go onto public forums to suggest that someone they don't know and have never met is horrible?
Or do people who make comments not knowing the personal dealings of someone and then make themselves look stupid .

Quite like darren ambrose, Chris iwelumo, jobi mcanuff of the new ones.

Clinton Morrison says nothing, really. You'd think that in his former life he was a gangsta with a crystal palace season ticket, not an actual footballer.

I'd like to see someone with a passion for football and a broader world view take this gig on.

Our own Alastair Campbell would be a superb choice, but there may be others who could offer an extra dimension to the job.

Great Player
Average Manager
Great Pundit
Probably time for him to be average again now at whatever he does.

Can never fully take to an ex xxxxxxx manager but they are definitely big shoes to fill as a pundit.

Alastair Campbell? That’s a joke right?.I’ve nothing personal against him but to me he’s one of the most boring people anyone would want to listen to.

I agree that he his one of the few that I would value their opinions during a game. If he is leaving Sky then that would be a shame.

He’s spoken very openly about it as well. I believe he’s worked extremely hard to help others in similar situations also.

The last thing Sky want is someone to “tell it like it is”.

What they actually want is someone to “tell it like you’re selling it”

I read last week that it was likely to be between three with Simon Thomas one of them. He’s done some work with Amazon Prime I think in last two seasons but always thought he was a big loss to Sky when he had to stand down.

Time will tell whether he’ll be a good choice; he has big boots to fill.

You’d have thought Chapman was made for the role but perhaps cost too much to be poached from the BBC as it’s evident Sky are on a cost cutting mission. I like Simon Thomas as a presenter but I’m not sure he has the right personality for this role but could be wrong.

Chapman is a bit wooden, Barker is dreadful. Michelle Owen would have been good in the hot seat and was good on the EFL games for Sky last season.

Simon Thomas is ok for me.

Dam Walker would have been the best choice for a like for like style presenter of Soccer Saturday but he's randomly now with Channel 5. Mark Chapman would be the next. Simon Thomas is a bit too straight laced and sky corporate imo. Great presenter, but Soccer Saturday needs more character so remains to be seen if Simon Thomas has this. I wish him luck.

Agree though following Stelling will be hard, worst thing would for him to try to copy his style, he has to be himself.
