Great ending over from Bairstow
Faced 4 balls and hit 11 runs

Not such a good one from Wood as I type that

When the new ball is taken the batters should play like openers to see off the shine. Brookes stupid dismissal has quickly led to two more and harmed our victory chances, if the expected rain falls for the next two days.

Think that’s incredibly harsh. We want to be scoring quickly and getting the Aussies in asap

Possibly but you have to see the new ball off. The one wicket cost us three. Sitting in to get rid of Starc and Hazlewood wouldn’t have harmed the match situation as much as losing the wickets has.

Can’t help but disagree. Get to 200 ahead as quick as possible (which we’re very close to doing) then put them in.

Seeing out the first spell would have put us 6-10 overs behind

The, reported, plan yesterday was to bat once. 200 will have us batting again.

I'd come out swinging for the next 30mins - see if we can get another 30-50+ which just makes it that bit harder to reach

I’m guessing we’ve brought Jimmy on to get the ovation in what could be his final England batting appearance at OT, baring in mind we may not get to the end of our second innings

Not much is very predictable in Test cricket anymore.
But reckon our overrate will be a lot higher than the Aussies have managed. :D

The more overs Starc bowls, the bigger foot marks for Ali to bowl into.

Why are we still batting? Tomorrow and much of Sunday is a washout, we likely haven't time left to win this now.

Entertaining stuff but are they just putting on a show to say we would clearly have won had the rain not beaten us??

I think that we will get enough play on Sunday - more runs we score the more aggressive the field we can set

The problem with the weather is that its so unpredictable, particularly for Sunday. We could get 40/50 overs in between showers. We could get none, who knows

If we get a big of lead as possible imagine being able to set a tight field because you know the Aussie runs don't matter that much. Wickets should fall today, and hopefully at others part of the weekend if we get play in between showers.

Aussies are playing for a draw now, plain and simple.

Is this the same fishing as dan the other day? When you play well you get given praise, when you not you get given criticism. That's absolutely fair for professional sportspeople.

He deserves great plaudits for his batting today, doesn't really balance out his overall crap series so far with both bat and gloves.
