Pity we don't still have David Edgar still signed on or we could have a useful trio of central midfielders
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Think we have in Beyer our equivalent of John Stones,I reckon he could play a deep lying mid field role (not like folk used to suggest Tarks could play) he’s better than Tarks.

No idea if we are still in for Hamer at Cov but this latest interview with Mark Robins points towards his likely exit:

What I’m trying to say if we are taking a risk on unknowns in the PL why aren’t we buying NT who is at least known to English football even though one league lower.

I know Kompany rates him, but he's not pulled up any trees at arsenal or palace, so fingers crossed he regains his form under the manager

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Ah I found it now, earlier this morning on there:
‘Arsenal and Burnley are stepping up talks over a season-long loan deal for Albert Sambi Lokonga.
The 23-year-old has struggled to establish himself at the Emirates since completing his move from Anderlecht two summers ago.
And he spent the last six months of last season on loan at Crystal Palace, for whom he made nine appearances, in a bid to gain more Premier League experience.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has given his blessing to Sambi Lokonga going out for the entire campaign after revamping his midfield, including the arrival of £105million new boy Declan Rice.
And Vincent Kompany’s Premier League new boys are keen to get a deal tied up as the former Manchester City star strengthens his squad.
Talks are expected to advance this week with a deal now close.‘

I’m purely basing my thoughts on his time at Anderlecht and a couple of games I’ve seen him play for Arsenal.
Loves a yellow card though, probably going to give Cork a run for his money in that respect

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Really hoping we can get a deal sorted for Lokonga - his career has lost its way a bit, but he appears to have all the attributes we need for that CM spot.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Might have been my imagination, but on the most recent video on the club's twitter account it looks like Cullen might be hobbling a wee bit.
It really is imperative we get a CM signed up. I've no idea if Lokonga would be good for us, he seems highly rated and has played under VK before, but hasn't had the best couple of years.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Just watched a compilation of Lokonga. He’s exactly what we need. Box to box midfielder. Good engine and good range passing. I think he would improve our midfield big time and with his range of passing can bring other players into the game and create chances.

Gus Hamer not signing a new deal..
I hear that they still fancy McNally - if they had any sense they’d do a favourable exchange between the two but I think they’ll be stubborn.

Lokonga looks one hell of a talented player. I hope we can pull this off.

we could buy Lokonga now for 15 but we'll take him on loan, he'll be immense after VK and the coaches have worked on him and Arsenal will want 50 for him next summer !

The rest have been inane dribbling, and petty squabbling, just like the one quoted above.
And now I've added to the rubbish as well...........

Hope we agree an option to buy within the loan deal for Lokonga. Even if it is a bit pricy to begin with, just to avoid the situation Vegas has described.

Had John Stones before last season?
It's not a full-on CM role, which is why I think it can work.
They don't need the ball playing skills of a proper midfielder, because they are essentially just an extra body who advances through the phases, but without anyone properly tracking them.
And their skill lies mainly in helping break down the opposition counter early, and keeping the pressure high.
I dont know if Beyer could do it.
But he certainly possesses the attributes to make it possible

Our biggest problem last games is a lack of creativity to reach the players up front. Some of them didn't touch a ball in 10 minutes. It's hard to be good on the ball if you aren't involved in the build up play. The central defenders passing towards each other then the goalkeeper usually takes the initiative.
Lokonga is the type of player when they receive the ball in the back you look at him. He will probably run into the open space and make himself available. A pivot type of player that has eyes on his back. A bit like Eden Hazard in that sense. He has a lovely touch, he can dribble and give a good pass. Can also run with the ball into spaces and move up the pitch to divide play.
In the midfield we definitely need this type of player. Also upfront I would love to see a similar skill type player like Mike Trésor whipping in perfect crosses and giving good passes.
Adding those two would be immense for us.
