1-0 down in a pre-season friendly at half-time and the panic brigade are out in force.
What is it with these deliberate gaslighting posts?

I wouldn’t say anyone is having an OTT reaction - facts of the matter is it’s a week out from the start of our campaign, our last preseason game and the squad looks abit unbalanced and we still don’t have all the guys in that we need.

You get away with it a bit in the champ, but we only have 38 games in the PL - it’s so essential to not be team building a month into the season

I think Brownhill's speed is very underrated. He's substantially quicker than just "mobile".

Your argument about the Championship is undermined by our own performance last season - we didn't struggle for want of physicality. The Premier league is far more physically demanding and the athleticism is a notch above, and we will need players who can live with that. Brownhill can.
In terms of physicality I'm talking the amount of contact allowed. You need to be a bit more robust to being roughed up in the Championship. And Brownhill struggled with the athletic pace in the PL before, like I said he isn't slow but his top end and straight line speed isn't rapid, it's his speed at changing direction that made him work in the Championship as it made up for his technical ability which is very much middle of the Championship. In the Prem, that's not enough and he's not fast or mobile enough to offset it like he is for the Championship.
He's got top end Champ/lower end PL athleticism, and mid-Champ technical skill, the CAM role really requires technique as well, arguably moreso.

I'm not singling him out, I just don't know that he fits either of the roles our midfield utilises when it comes to the Prem, but WOULD fit a midfield 3.

Fantastic looking terrace behind Trafford’s goal! But obviously it’s only “unsafe” standing in Germany.

Really is, playing like someone who knows he’s under pressure to perform.

JBG was able to play in the middle in the championship but not sure he can do the number 8 role in the prem

Totally agree.

He’s nowhere near rapid but he can maintain a solid pace for pretty much the entire 90 - super super fit but noway has a turn of pace like a Tella or our new star boy Koleosho

Fair enough. I disagree about his straight line speed and I think the stats will support me, but can't point to any immediately. I think in a league where we are likely to spend more time sitting in without the ball, and will be more exposed to counters when we do have it, his attributes will be essential. Twine for one certainly does not replicate them.

As for him struggling in the PL before- I've already said, the more he is asked to sit, the more limited he looks. For Dyche he played almost exclusively as one of 2 midfielders deployed to stay goal side of the ball. In other words, he was primarily deployed in a role that didn't showcase his strengths.

Acceleration and top speed are different though and that is what tends to distinguish wide players like Tella and Koleosho.

Cork and Twine in midfield, JBG and Zaroury wide, Jay and Amdouni up front, Viti RB, Ekdal and Taylor CB, Roberts still LB, Big Aro in goal and if he fancies it centre midfield too.

Of course but you can’t possibly think Brownhills top line speed is anywhere near that of a Tella? He has an engine like but miles off.

Not watching but comments are not favorable. Our first game of the season is in 6 days. Surely VK must know his starting formation for next week but it sounds like a mess right now. Maybe just posters overreacting

He slightly pips Roberts as 'quickest 180 I've done on a player'.
Start of last season he terrified me and reminded me of Lazlo Vig from Mike Bassett.
Now I love the guy.

There is no doubting his class and intelligence, it’s just he lacks the athleticism you need now in the prem. such a shame because Cork of 2017/18 would be perfect for us

It is but I think part of it is the pace of the opposition. Mainz are midtable Bundesliga, I'd put them upper Championship- PL sides have quicker, better pressers than this.
Comes back to the athleticism debate about centre midfield, I think that's where Cork completely falls down at Prem level now. Last time in the Prem he had a 4-5 game run where he looked decent but had been poor in the first half of the season, hence why he got dropped.
Combine him and Brownhill and you've got the perfect CM for us.

Is it still 1-0 ? Had to go out 2nd half but back for ‘extra time’ based on first half I don’t think we’ll lay a glove on Man City.

Even with the strongest team we could possible put out (i.e. no injuries) we're still getting pumped by City. Season starts Aug 27th. I mean that unironically.

But ideally I didn’t want to have a negative 5 or 6 goal difference after game week one haha.

Disagree.

City are in mini transition and have infamously come unstuck against ‘lesser’ sides at the beginning of the season before they get in their stride - no better time to play them.
