I personally think it’s really boring low hanging fruit sort of crap banter if honest.
Not like we were a pioneer of Total Football or anything is it

Quite funny.
The insult at the end was a bit over the top though and not needed.

You have to laugh at how wound up some of our fans get over any joke aimed at us, thank god they didn’t show a back street with an old settee on it

I think it’s stereotypical and terrible. I’m fed up with all Burnley fans being described as knuckle dragging, foul mouthed ignoramuses. I don’t even think it’s particularly funny or original.

Why is it embarrassing?
It’s in line with all their other fan denial type stuff, pick the obvious stereotype (which is present for good reason) and lay it on thick.
As said above, it represents a large chunk of this forum.

Yep - even worse when its our own fans doing it.
Vast majority of Burnley fans were over the moon after the Huddersfield game. But let's pretend they were all yelling 'hoof it".
Vast majority of Burnley fans have not been entirely comfortable with a leveraged takeover of the club but willing to adopt a "the jury is still out" stance - but lets pretend they've been yelling "**** off home Yanks".

I don’t want to get this thread mangled with political nonsense, but flip the script say I dnno, Will Hill did an advert depicting low hanging fruit Irish stereotypes it wouldn’t go would it?
Utterly bored of the Brexit Burnley/Flatcap wearing hovis eating Neanderthals (not to mention warbies is a bigger seller in the BB postcode)
You only have to have a read of the careers thread on here to realise we’re the same as any fan base - people from all walks of life doing well for themselves.
Bored of it

So what, not many jokes are original and plenty depend on stereotypes. If you had a brighter outlook on life you might realise the whole thing is a massive complement to the club and how we’ve managed to transform our fairly dour style into something exciting and entertaining in just one season.

Yip, it's a tongue in cheek joke about football fans, could have been any club in the country. Luckily most of us can laugh at ourselves.

If there's any insult in that ad and I'm not so sure there is, it's at the expense of Dyche and his genius at keeping us in the Prem against massive odds.

Some people might remember the Fast Show sketch 'Julio Geordio' - which made fun of the idea of a South American/Spanish player playing for Newcastle and mixing in Geordie football cliches with broken Spanglish.
That was also based on some stereotypes, as much humour is, but it was original and funny because it cleverly played with those stereotypes, switched them about it, the humour was subtle and worked.
This Paddy Power thing is just pointing a finger and laughing at us and there is no subtlety or cleverness to it at all.
There is a broader more political point that could be made, but I'll skip that.

No one is ‘laughing at us’, they’re laughing at a made up character for an advert.

Then they had that woman who, whatever the situation, was only worried about ‘does my bum look big in this’.

I won’t go all afternoon/night on this but I’ll just add - half of its ******** as well because it’s another lazy stereotype about our playstyle under Dyche that whilst not total football it wasn’t necessarily the hoofball people would have you believe.
Same boring stereotypes that prevented Mee/Pope/Tarky getting more of a chance with England

It wasn’t crazy gang era Wimbledon I grant you, but the stats very much backed up the notion we were a long ball team.

Thought it was funny. Understand the stereotype stuff but don't think that advert is majorly guilty of it. Many of those things were said on this very messageboard last summer and heck, you only need to read the Muric thread throughout last season to see the total hyperbole and misunderstanding people had/have about how Kompany plays.
People still think Taylor should play left back!

Nothing wrong with playing direct.
Conte did it won the league and everyone reverted to wingbacks being an option again and Conte was a genius.
Liverpool do it and it’s brilliant ‘heavy metal football’.
Mourinho does it and ‘he’s the special one’.
Simeone does it and gets massive plaudits for competing with Real/Atletico.
Dyche and Burnley do it and it’s Brexit 442 hoofball with 11 thugs on the field… boring and extremely unoriginal.

I was going to say, the character maybe a stereotype but many of those character traits were quite visible at the Turf in August/September last year. I was certainly guilty of not liking playing out from the back and it took maybe a dozen games to convert me!

That's something the character in the ad would say! Maybe it isn't so unrealistic...

Massive overreaction from the usual suspects, a few of whom had a similar overreaction to the silly Free Tella video which nobody cared about. Still, at least it gives another opportunity to use the word 'cringe', which is rapidly catching up 'woke' as being a word so overused it's beginning to lose all semblance of an actual meaning.

“Same boring stereotypes that prevented Mee/Pope/Tarky getting more of a chance with England”

Someone has genuinely just typed that and believes it to be the case. Wow, get the chip off your shoulder.
This joke plays on a stereotype as a lot of jokes do. It doesn’t need to be clever with the stereotype as it’s following the same path as all their other ‘fan denial’ or fan mocking stuff. Everton fans constantly booing, Arsenal fans talking like over excited grime artists etc etc etc.
It’s not unique to us, Paddy Power aim this type of joke at lots of fan bases.

Widely known that Southgate had that view on our team.
Brentford fans are baffled that Mee didn’t get more of a shot, i don’t think there’s many better left sided English centre halves in the Prem at all.

There could be a clever and funny way of making fun of Burnley, famed for Dycheball, 'suddenly' being a Pep-ball team. It is a weird thing to lots of people and a good starting point for some comedy.
But that would require a bit more imagination than having generic 'working class Burnley man' (with a Manchester accent) raging in his back garden with his brew.

It’s a little bit funny, of course it is, if you can accept it for what it is. But why they felt the need to get a manc to do it I’ll never know.

Haven’t read all the replies, but I’m damn sure the bedwetters will be out in force over this bit of harmless fun.
