John B & Garlick

Post by ClaretTony » Mon Aug 28, 2023 10:53 am

Neither of them are now listed as directors in the match programme and we now have a club president in Mike Smith too according to the programme.

Not fussed if Mike Garlick is never involved with the club again…but would like think that John B will still have some input/role in some way even if it’s only informal; his business links in the far east could help open doors there.

Think it’s best the pair of them aren’t involved and they go and count their cash elsewhere. New regime now and more forward thinking.

Still showing as directors of Burnley FC Holdings Ltd on Companies House register, but there might be a late filing ;)

Both of them still appear on Companies House as directors - though as we know ALK/VSL are not the best for filing updates - Vlad Torgovnik was declared as a director almost 4 weeks ago and that has still not been registered, then there is the mystery surrounding Adrian Bettridge - is he a board member (as declared on 'MtB') or not.

As for being paid off - Payments for the initial takeover agreement were completed on July 7th 2023 - again in the finest traditions of ALK/VSL the payment was late - this time by a week - making it a clean sweep for all 5 payments including the initial one.

There is still the the outstanding ringfence on the 12k or so shares that group of 7 still hold - that expires in October 2024. Between them Mike Garlick and John Banaskiewicz still hold over 9k of shares - of course that transaction (circa £20m) may have completed in the last few days but I have heard nothing about that, and you would imagine that with the transfer window and the revival of the KV Kortrijk deal that the monies ALK/SL had would be focused elsewhere.

All I know is that both were listed in the match programme as directors for the City game but not yesterday.

Torgonvik wasn't listed in the City programme but was yesterday.

I'll defend a good friend of mine here - John B did some excellent work in his time as a director, and that included the buyback of Turf Moor and Gawthorpe in 2014. He's also done some great work away from the club with his cancer charity and now what he's doing to help those in Ukraine.

As for counting his cash, he put a lot of money into the club, I can assure you of that. Yes, he'll have made money in the end from the sale but he had no option given Garlick was controlling it and held half of the club.

It’s difficult isn’t it. On the face of it he’s lumped in with Garlick as fattening the pig for market. To what degree that’s true we’ll never know.

What I do know from reading Clive Holt’s book is just what a thankless task being a director is. All unpaid work, the begging bowl being regularly passed around (even in the good times) and fans always wanting more.

Always been a thankless task being a director. The Derek Gill book tells the same story as Clive's in the years preceding Clive.
