He was one of the stars for Morocco in their run to the WC semi final. Went to Marseille off the back of it.burnleymik wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 9:54 amthis account has 33k followers. No idea about the player though

Out of his depth for England maybe, but a better centre half than any we have.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Really?
So you don't think a player of Dier's quality and experience would add something to our squad?
(Not the greatest player to win an England cap, obviously, but an established PL player who has been on the periphery of the England squad for about a decade).
Edit: Also just thought - he could play CB as well as midfield, so could provide cover the Ekdal and Beyer injuries.

Also the holding midfielder we're crying out for.

Bakayoko likely to stay at PSV.

jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 10:19 amCouldn’t care less to be honest. His career before last season looks pretty insipid on paper and it seemingly took him a year in a far poorer league to start making any impact, how long would it have taken him to adapt to this level?
If he has no faith in himself and would rather mess about playing in front of 15 men and a dog at a lot of fixtures that’s his prerogative, he’s clearly not got the ambition and heart that is required for the battle we’ve got ahead of us. Forget about him and let’s see who we get instead.
Agreed. He should have been on that airport 3 hours early watching the clock tick with excitement. You got alot of words for it but it surely isn't a manly move.
This makes me nervous about Bakayoko, would it be the same story as with his countrymen?
I find all this very weird as I would expect them all to really want to play for Kompany. Verbruggen included. Him going to Brighton was something I never expected.
A bit disappointing as well, makes me doubt their loyalty towards the manager who I thought was rated more highly by them.
Perhaps we should listen to what Antwerp wants for Vermeeren as a perfect midfielder. Check out his assist on the winning goal Vs AEK Athens yesterday, there's also Butez who we were interested in and Balikwisha who I rate higher than Paintsil)

lol at anyone turning their nose up at Eric Dier.
No wonder there are unrealistic expectations if they think he's not good enough for us.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'd take Gomez, such a complete player than can fill in almost any position and will do what the coach asks of him. Technically a joy to watch, reminding me of a mix of Iniesta and KDB. Lovely tight crosses, great vision with good passing, can dribble, good first touch, overall intelligent player. Can be used as inverted wingback, defensive midfielder, wingback, both offensive wings. Would make a great 8 or number 10 as well. He'd be perfect for the versatile tactics Kompany uses and add lots of quality and creativity.summitclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 9:21 amWe can have 1 loan from City. Would you want THB, Gomez or Philips?
Tough one, but Philips, because he is an excellent holding cm and can play cb. However, I could also see THB in both roles. As for left back, I still live in hope of a IM loan.
Doubt Taylor will be going anywhere atm.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
When people claim ‘agent talk’ do they realise that agents work for the players and therefore any statements released to the press will have been almost certainly approved by the players?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He should be available but heard he really would love to go for his chances at Man City, due to the transfer of Gvardiol and City playing without real wingbacks it seems like it will be almost impossible to get into that team.
If he gets a loan transfer it would be a good step to come to Burnley. Vinnie already knows him well and rates him highly.

I find that almost impossible to believe this season - It could be a problem if the Premier League brought in UEFA style sustainability rules going forwardCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 9:53 amWe are apparently having to be careful around FFP (unsurprisingly) which a few journos have reported as a reason for our recent deal structures.
On a 3 season rolling view
2021/22 - allowable loss £35m - actual was a profit of £36m (net £71m in the FFP kitty as it were)
2022/23 - allowable loss £13m - actual unknown (note most player sales were in previous reporting period) plenty of players in and the MSD debt clearance/refinance and apparently a paying down of the November 2022 loan by around £7m (at least) - note there was an MSD pay down in August 2022 which is likely to be around £14.5m+
2023/24 - allowable loss £35m
in terms of transfer fees only the amortisation cost is considered for FFP

Don't let the big six and national team media circus fool you into thinking Eric Dier wouldn't be a good signing for us. He's played the holding role/cb for years for England and Spurs. He could certainly do a job for us.

There is also January if we need to sell players so for various reasons I would like to think we still have flexibility.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Some people on here need to give their head a wobble.
The fact we're even looking at the likes of Origi and Dier speaks volumes about what we are trying to achieve. These two are 28 and 29 and would offer a huge amount to our club. It's a far cry from signing the likes of Steven Reid and Dale Stephens to add experience.
It's been a remarkable turnaround in the last 18 months, absolutely remarkable!

How confident was your source on Daka, reports on talksport saying it’s unlikelyLongsideClaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 9:17 amI checked in last night as soon as I saw Sacha Tavolieri break the news about the Tresor deal being off. My guy only found out during the game last night that Tresor hadn’t travelled. Don’t know whether VK would have known before the game or found out after.
Told to expect a few more. Daka from Leicester loan with an option and Massengo on a free (though Bristol will be due some compo due to his age)
Not got any other names yet and whether the Tresor deal falling through and the Ekdal injury leads to us looking at other players I don’t yet know.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Again, I'm completely lost as I've not said anything negative regarding our players in my comments. But as others have said it'll just derail the thread if it carries on so we should just leave it there.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
After the tresor news last night and now the potential Daka and origi news it’s beginning to feel very much like the end of transfer windows have in the past and as dyche would say ‘go with what we’ve got’
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
So we have literally hours left in the transfer window and have spent over 100m, yet...
From our peak last season...
We are weaker and have less leadership in defence overall...
Are far weaker at left-back...
Have not upgraded or backed up Connor Roberts...
Have only added one attacking central midfielder...
Have not strengthened the deep-lying central midfield...
Have not found back-up to Benson, who struggled to get into the team from the start at times in the Championship...
Have fewer strikers...
Have less pace, goal threat and control with not replacing Maatsen and Tella...
But don't worry, apparently, it's all part of the plan!

Well I'm feeling optimistic for this season, we just need 3 teams out of 19 to finish below us and with 36 games left we have 2 there now
I do think if we had beat City or Villa a couple of these transfers would have come off, expect they will be thinking they don't want a dog fight at the bottom
