I never mark the officials, however, one question today is how do JBG and Brownhill get booked for tackles which win the ball fair and square but the Spurs players roll around on the pitch, whilst Emerson comes on and puts a studs up challenge in, doesn't win the ball and is not booked, in spite of leaving Cullen in a heap on the pitch. I really have given up with all this crap.

Again, a referee that had no influence on the result, but one who was woefully inconsistent.

dreadful dreadful dreadful, fell for it every time a Spurs player screamed, booked Brownhill for winning the ball, gave 2 free kicks in the first half to Spurs where there was ZERO contact. Truly awful

Maddison was the ref essentially.
Just bizarre inconsistencies. Two incidents five minutes apart show what we are up against. Second half, our free kick on halfway. Makes a big fuss over where to take it from. Drags it back five and allows them to stand on it. Spurs five minutes later. Five yards from where it should be taken and let's it slide. Just constant marginal gains to the opposition from **** poor referees.

Shocker. Amazingly booked Brownhill for a clean and fair tackle, while missing Sarr’s two footed lunge for their second goal. Oh and why the VAR doesn’t disallow that goal I don’t know.

Well mike dean in the studio had no idea why the footballers watching it had doubts. It turned out that he had just checked the badge, and completely missed the possible offside.

Spurs second goal came from a GK which should have been our corner. Linesman near CFS was hopeless

He was waiting for clearance from the VAR man that the previous tackle shouldn't be a red card.

He was dreadful, but didn't cause us to lose the game, thank goodness. The guy's an idiot!

He wasn't even going to give a free kick against Brownhill and rightly so, until the Spurs player screamed at him and out came the yellow card. How Madison wasn't booked for simulation is beyond me.

What has that got to do with being pedantic over placement for our free kick and not their free kick? Nothing to stop him intervening and asking for the free kick to be taken from the correct position for Spurs. He didn't blow up and allowed it. He only notices when having a chat with VAR? That makes it worse. The game was littered with poor decisions from him and they favoured Spurs generally.

I cannot mark him down as having a stinker because the game, with the scoreline bring what it was effectively played itself out without the need for firm refereeing.
However there were massive red flags for me in the manner he made mistakes.
He overruled his linesman to incorrectly award spuds a throw early in the first half despite his linesman clearly trying his best to indicate otherwise. How often do linesmen even *try* to correct a referee these days? He really should have got the hint.
Frankly he reffed like a frightened rabbit at the start of the game. There were many other areas of inconsistencies and poor decision making that others have pointed out.
If we get this referee against one of the established big clubs I'll have zero confidence.

Starstruck referee (starstruck by Madison). Championship Referee at best.
Madison essentially refereed the game.

He couldn't allow the free kick to be taken because the VAR man was reviewing. So (for some strange reason) he got pedantic about the placement. He still wouldn't let it be taken for a few seconds after it was in the right place.

Failed to control the game. Encouraged cheating and discouraged tackling.

Thanks for the apology, but not needed. There was nothing objectionable in your posts, just a difference of opinion which is of no consequence at all.
Cheers anyway.
