There's too much politics in football and too much power and influence lying with a few clubs. VAR is used as an extra failsafe for ensuring the right result. Sounds conspiratorial but we can all see it happening regularly. They insert as many vague and ambiguous caveats as they can to create a level of subjectivity to every decision. Those caveats can then be enforced or ignored at their choosing.

This corrupt view is strange and wrong. VAR has ****** the big clubs numerous times. Does nobody remember the Boro goal at Old Trafford?

I think people just enjoy pretending to be victim, thankfully VK is smart and won’t fly off the handle with conspiracy theories.

Man United have had more goals ruled out from VAR this season than Burnley

We need someone who thinks it's corrupt to explain why the Premier League and referees are willing to risk it all in order to stop Burnley winning at Nottingham Forest, but only if circumstances allow

Not corrupt, there's no agenda, it just doesn't work very well

Don’t think it’s corruption just a group of officials who love having their names talked about afterwards in the press as they see themselves as part of the premier league draw. The fact that not one Forest player or the home crowd appealed for handball should have been a pretty big clue to the officials.

Sure there’s an old adage about not really noticing a good referee.

What does that prove?

Nobody is questioning the ‘black and white’ did the ball go out of play or were they offside. We’re talking about handball or not handball. Foul or no foul. The ones that are open to interpretation….like when the Man Utd keeper took the Wolves player’s head off.

With respect; no. I’m not wasting 9 minutes of
My life watching highlights of an FA Cup tie between Man Utd and Middlesbrough from 18 months ago.

Maybe there is an incident in that match that disproves everything though. One incident. One example. Got anymore? I’d bet there are lots more examples to favour bigger teams or home teams.

Care to explain why Barnes got penalised for a ridiculous handball v Spurs away at the end of our previous PL season and then in our very next game v Villa away Digne didn’t get penalised for the same thing?

Consistency is what’s lacking big time with VAR. As already mentioned, when it comes to decisions about opinions there are too many caveats that allow officials to give whatever they want.

And, as others mention, too many weak and egotistical refs that want to please a certain set of fans or be centre of attention/star of the show.

All fans of all clubs think they're hard done to by referees and VAR. They can't all be right.

You just said it yourself, so you think the referee was ridiculous to award the penalty against Barnes?

So why do you think Digne should have given away a penalty for the same thing?

You want two bad decisions? Here’s the problem, you want the ridiculous one not given against Barnes but want it given against Digne because it suits your team.

Yes because I want consistency. I want the same outcome for the same offence regardless of the team.

It’s not too hard to understand.

There is corruption in every sport, football is no different, nobody is saying that refs are corrupt in not giving Fosters goal last night. That’s just plain incompetence from the officials. There could quite easily be corruption within the head office of the premier league, there has been at uefa and fifa before

OMG I've just seen a slow mo replay on BBC NW for the first time. I'm genuinely flabbergasted at the decision. It doesn't even look like it touched his upper arm before it hit his lower chest, how they could even call it handball let alone deliberate is unbelievable.

I thought corrupt was a bit strong but now I'm not so sure. I can't believe two experienced refs could come to their conclusion without an ulterior motive.

That would suggest that there are corrupt owners involved, are you suggesting that say, the Forest owner is potentially dodgy? I mean seriously...
Corruption takes on many forms.
If I was Ref / VAR official and some meat head came knocking on my door saying we know what time your Mrs goes to Tesco on Thursday evening in her blue Micra & by the way, the game you are officiating on Saturday WILL be a home win. Its a hard task to ignore or report. No money changed hands so no paper trail. Nothing further needs to happen but the pressure is there.
