We are definitely capable of beating Brighton

Post by Elizabeth » Fri Dec 08, 2023 10:07 pm

It's been a slower start to the season than most of us expected but I have a good feeling about the Brighton game.

The positive message from the manger this week indicates that all is evolving and the squad is stronger now than at any stage this season.

I don't know about the squad being stronger. We are likely to see Ekdal and Beyer start for the first time finally, but we are now missing Koleosho.

The positive message from the manager after the Man City game was that was the worst we would play. It wasn’t by a long chalk.

If optimism got us points we’d be top of the league by now ,but never mind but I wouldn’t expect our manager to come out with any negative points before a match.

Id like to think so but it's as likely as seeing Muric start, Ekdal wasn't playing in the league before his injury.

Mmmm? Hopefully you report back around 17:15 tomorrow saying I told you so. I wish I shared your optimism.
Have taken my wife out to Tenerife for a short break so I will be in a bar in Costa Adeje watching this one.

I could be misremembering, but hasn't Ekdal been injured all season (up until the Sheff United game that is)? Or were you referring to last season?

Anyone can beat anyone on their day. But let's be honest the most likely outcome is another disappointment of a result where we look good in parts and create the odd chance but concede a sloppy goal or two and then offer little afterwards. Hope I am wrong but history keeps repeating itself so far this season.

I hope we win but it's ages since we did at Brighton without Luca I an not convinced especially if Redmond is seen as the answer

Fully fit but sat on the bench at the start of the season, only played in the cup and got injured, but yes was dropped last year soon as Bellis was fit. He's never been as high in the pecking order as some fans think he should be.

I hope the tinker man plays Odobert on the left and doesn’t overthink it as usual.

Yes quite correct, I just looked back on the starting line up for man city and we had Roberts and Vit as wing backs with AAD, O'Shea and Beyer in the back 3! Seems a long time ago.

Crazy to think Ekdal wasn't fancied over O'Shea and AAD, hopefully Kompany has seen enough of O'Shea to know he needs to be dropped.

We are only capable of beating them if we play the same formation as the Sheffield United game matched with the intensity. 4-3-3 passive slow crap, forget it.

He was injured early season and then ‘re-injured’ in his return match at Salford.

Very unlucky but hopefully we now have him fully fit for first time since he joined us.

I worry about Ekdal, especially as we want to play out from the back. I think he under hits all his passes, which puts the receiver under pressure, they are easily closed down waiting for his pass. Just my observation. I thought it didn’t help on Tuesday because Berge was off the pace as well, took too much time in possession.

I’d like to see the closest player we have to koleosho start in his place. That is not JBG, as decent a player as he is. It just upsets the balance for me, but I see him as a shore up.

I don’t want to see Taylor at right back, Beyer in midfield and Brownhill left wing. I just want square pegs in square holes. And if it’s working and we are doing a job on them, I don’t want to see any changes. I’d like to see us see the game out without making changes that aren’t required or necessary.

We can beat these today for sure, but we have to be brave, focussed and clinical. They have to have an off day. They are a very, very good side.

Put Muric in goal.
Play strongest 4 at the back available
Play strongest defensive midfield 5
Amdouni upfront
Not a chance we beat Brighton if we try and take the game to them
Problem is VK looks at takes a defensive line up as a sign of weakness
I am sure all the supporters would be delighted with 0-0

I thought that might go unnoticed.

Match day and last night's enthusiasm has evaporated . Waiting to see which way we lose the game this week. So many lost points because of careless errors !
