FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
Just a friendly word of warning regarding the referee. I have it from good authority that the powers that be are concerned about possible negative comments, chanting etc towards her and that there will be tolerance of such behaviour. Wouldn't want to see any of our fans ending up being locked up 2 days before Christmas.

If there's tolerance, what's the problem?

I just hope she has a great game and can break another barrier down in equality, and that all fans show full respect to her and all officials.

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
She'll probably get more respect form the players than Haaland showed to Hooper the other week!
Having seen her Referee Championship games she's as good as most male Referee's in that league.
Strangely although not being a fan of women in Men's football, Referee / Lino are positions where they are a positive addition - just my view of course.

Can we make an exception for the muppet on VAR & Rob Jones?

This was one of my first thoughts too. I think being a woman will actually work in her favour in terms of onfield discipline and dissent.aclaretinstevenage wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 2:18 pmShe'll probably get more respect form the players than Haaland showed to Hooper the other week!

However, in terms of crowd reactions - we ought to be able to barrack and abuse her just as much as is permissible towards any other referee. That is to say, we should be able to tell her exactly what we think of her decisions if she screws up.

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
She’ll have nothing to worry about assuming she does her job properly.
Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
As long as there are no sexist or homophobic chants which would be extremely unlikely I can’t see a problem.
On the other hand if some drunken or horrible individual starts shouting offensive abuse at her or anyone on the pitch then they deserve to be arrested.

Interested to hear why specifically as an official you have this viewaclaretinstevenage wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 2:18 pmShe'll probably get more respect form the players than Haaland showed to Hooper the other week!

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
I hope she is treated equally and exactly like her fellow colleagues.
equality is needed across the board, not cherry picked as to when and where it happens
There's only ever barriers and hurdles there, when people actually put them there.
Just like police, doctors, nurses, firefighters etc, I want the best for the job doing it.
Everything else is irrelevant

Can’t be any worse than some of the clowns that are officiating in the PL right now.
Hope she has a corker

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
I hope she has a great game, but even if she doesn't - I hope the fans stick to the "You're not fit to referee" type chants and don't bring the fact that she's woman into it, has no relevance.

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
I think the players might actually show more respect. As for the crowd they should treat her equally as male referees so poor officiating probably means chanting from the crowd. ‘ you don’t know what you’re doing … and as she’s not bald like many male referees perhaps…. you long haired illegitimate person etc

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
It would be even better if there was some equality on the pitch between Fulham and Burnley when the final whistle is blown.

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
I would have thought that she would want to be treated the same way as any other Premier league ref would.

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
Simply, I actually think players will show more respect to a female official than they do to the men. Female "linespersons" seem to get less abuse than male counterparts - certainly in games I've attended with a female "lino".

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
I would agree that she shouldn't be exempt from the crowd showing there disagreement / disapproval as they do with men.Rowls wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 2:36 pmThis was one of my first thoughts too. I think being a woman will actually work in her favour in terms of onfield discipline and dissent.

Yes, I was just about to post, - why should this even be a topic for discussion in 2023?

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
If she has a good or bad game she will get comments either way like ALL referees do. If that’s such a problem don’t put her in there.

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
The best refs are those you don't notice are there, I really hope this applies to her and she is almost invisible reffing the game as it ideally should be . In fairness both us and Fulham aren't known as dirty teams so let's hope it stays like that.

She can’t be worse than Rob Jones so at least she has that going for her straight away.

Unfortunately I don’t have to much confidence in a certain section of our away following not disgracing themselves, and the club.

I hope she leaves it on the hot plate so the poor guy doesn’t have to use a microwave (shudder)BleedingClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 7:31 pmI just hope she prepares her husband’s tea in advance before she sets off for the game

Re: FAO those attending the Fulham game on Saturday
Hopefully there will be chants of "You'll always be a claret" at the end of the game
