Liverpool fans keeping the match ball

Post by Bfc » Thu Dec 28, 2023 2:48 pm

During the game the match ball went into the Liverpool fans lower section. The ball boy picked up another ball up and threw it to the keeper. A middle aged supporter was stood with the ball in his hand, then decided he would keep it (steal it) and appeared to put it between his feet and at no point did he throw the ball back.
This could happen on a regular match basis, if no action is taken to recover it. There’s plenty of cameras panning in on supporters, to replay the action and send a steward to recover it. Potentially losing the match ball could happen every game.

Happened on Longside lower like 10 mins prior. Stewards just pointed then laughed but didn’t get up from their little footstool seats.

It is what it is I guess.

£130 balls.

We used to rob the Mitres back in Championship days before first first promotion.

Class when you was 13/14 year old playing with a proper ball.

This is theft, and I would hope it's investigated as vigorously as all other disorderly events in the ground.

The odd 12-14 year old keeping them because there’s a group of them is just one of those things you see (although of course it’s wrong) but grown adults keeping them to stick on eBay is a bit grim, probably pinch towels and irons from hotel rooms as well.

I expected it to be thrown back onto the pitch to stop play at some point while we were 1-0 down and attacking.

At Luton last season I walked out of the ground next to a bloke who was trying to steal a match ball. Stewards were waiting for him at the gate and unsuccessfully attempted to prevent him from leaving then chased him down the street to retrieve it, which they did.

Isn't it a criminal offence to throw objects onto the field of play ;)

Our stewards didn’t even bother to try to get the ball back . But does that suprise anyone?

It must have been a bit chilly as I was walking away from the Turf after the match, as I actually saw a Scouser with his hands in his own pockets.

He was minding his own business and then out of the blue he was the victim of a missile attack. He will probably apply for compensation and a public enquiry.

Funny thing is there are three examples of Burnley fans doing this on this thread alone.

Almost 30 years ago I had my car broke in during the League Cup tie at Anfield . Ok take my suit and work stuff but stealing a bag of baby food was despicable
