I don’t mind a bit of hope, but if we are realistic we know it’s over we are all just hoping for the best.

We have shown nothing to suggest we will even come close to staying up
We? Best not to try to speak for everyone!

Generally yes I agree but something like signing a goal scoring forward in the January window could make things look a hell of a lot better by the end of the season… here’s hoping.

Honourable mention to Leicester in 2014-15 who had 13 points after 19 games, stuck with the manager who got them promoted and finished 14th. That should give us hope.
Then sacked him and won the league a year later

The clutching at straws and looking for any flicker of hope will continue for many until relegation is mathematically confirmed.

Supporting your club, an alien concept for some.

Interesting looking at fbref stats for glimmers of hope.

Our problem is scoring goals and creating chances (joint 3rd best defence since the Sheff Utd game). When I look at the “expected assists per 90” and sort our players the top four are Gudmundsson, Redmond, Foster and Odobert. Ramsey just behind them. Amdouni doesn't create enough chances for others.

Occurs to me that would be a good front four. Maybe the key is to give Redmond more of a chance?

We need a couple of quick wins, but if we can get them, I think we’ll stay up.

Aye couldn’t agree more.
The meltdown on this board makes you wonder how some people manage to enjoy following Burnley at all.
It must be a very traumatic and utterly depressing experience for them.
Always anticipating the next defeat.
Thinking they could do a better job.
Looking for negatives all the time.
And even when we win or play well (or god forbid both) bringing themselves down to earth with a reality check that we will probably lose the next game.

Or we were ‘lucky’. Lucky to beat Fulham, lucky to beat Luton, lucky to get a point at Brighton etc etc. I’ve found it mindboggling. Genuinely think some are more interested in putting the xG in a spreadsheet and going off probability formulas. ‘We’re probably going to finish on 23 points’ ok great. Let’s not bother eh - it was going to be 16 points a couple of weeks back but who’s really keeping track. Let’s go to the January sales.

I think the point you should be making here is that the probability formula would keep us up in many people’s eyes (certainly recent form maintained over a season would come close), but the negative posters twist them to suit their own mindset.

The trouble on here is, positive posts or posts following wins are sporadic, negative ones or following losses are like a scattergun, with some posters making 200 posts a day with the same negativity. I block them all but can’t help spotting them when others quote them.

That's quite natural, it's difficult to be prag

Oh they love an Xg statistic - it’s what makes them get up every morning.
Well they do this season anyway - they were surprisingly apathetic about Xg last year.
Excel file saved under folder named “Relegation”
Worksheet 1 : xG stats from August 23.
Worksheet 2 : points forecast one column. Next column Derby points total reminder.
Worksheet 3 : transfer spend totalling = £150m (outgoings only of course)

Sorry,I got cut off,as I was saying,it's difficult to be pragmatic about the club you support. You always try to find a positive. Realistically though, the improvement required would be huge,I can't see it happening

Oh 100% a big signing or two can definitely change our fortunes.

I am personally of the opinion that a full back and CM are more critical to our success currently.

But even then we are talking about a dramatic change in form that would rival some of the best escapes in premier league history.

Only 2 clean sheets in 19 matches tells the story. That's the key here (imo) and if that stat can be significantly changed by whatever means (change of tactics, change of selection, bringing in new players) over the next 19 games then we'll have a great chance. Defence and defending should have been a priority in the summer and it sure as hell should be a priority now. TBF we have actually made progress in that respect since the first few games, but not enough and time is running out.
