Disgraceful performance. This is what you get when you cede all authority and control. He reffed the game almost entirely by player and crowd reactions.
A. 7
B. 9
C. 18
D. 7

John, Why not include those who watched the game by other means and more than likely had a better view of the incompetant tosser and his equally poor var sidekicks.

How do you get a better view of a referee watching on tv given he’s rarely on screen? John took advice when he set this up from a Football League official and i believe has it right.

Only saw it on Peacock TV but I thought the Luton fan gave everything to Villa, including the overreacting dive for the penalty, the missed handball and the overly harsh yellows especially Berge’s first.
I don’t think he’s biased though, he’s such a poor ref it just looks like it.

Except Robert Jones of course. Whose main objective is to have his gelled up crew cut, and smug fizzog on screen most of the game.

Also since John set this up VAR has been rolled out so yhe officiating has changed ascwell. I don't know anyone at a game who just watches the ref. If your at yhe game and decide to mark when you get home as uou need to see or double check a decision does that make your score null and void?
In fairness there have been times we've been to a live match called the ref every name under the sun only to get home, watch it on the tele and realise the ref was right.

It was in your terms and conditions when you signed up to the forum:
Article 5, paragraphs 3 to 5:
"All posters agree to share their personal data, Google search history and mobile phone location when posting on the 'Rate the Ref' threads.
Posters found in breach of this condition and suspected of not being at the game may be banned, given an unlimited fine or risk having their opinions mocked and disagreed with.
Up the Clarets takes no responsibility for loss of respect incurred for misuse of the 'Rate the Ref' feature which is, after all, run for diddly squat at no cost you."
Harsh but fair.

An inept referee might be right once in a while.
A corrupt referee will always be corrupt.
The bandying around of "corrupt" undermines the fight against bad refereeing. It implies they're deliberately making wrong decisions.
As with médecine, if you misdiagnose the problem you'll struggle to find the right solution.

Key decisions:
Burnley goal given offside - Likely was a whisker offside but on the freeze frame they used to draw lines Fosters blur of a boot was approximately 2 foot long. Just goes to show the cameras aren't quick enough to accurately call those.
Deliberate handball - Foster looks to be getting there agead of the last defender who deliberately slapped the ball. Outside the box so should be a red card. Ref doesn't even see a free kick. VAR doesn't intervene. Foster getting a weak shot away on the stretch instead of claiming it straight away probably worked agianst us. Playing to the whistle is detremental to getting decisions these days. Shouldn't be that way.
Berge first yellow - A few minutes after an obvious deliberate handball was ignored Berge complained about a free kick being given for handball when it appeared to hit his team mates shoulder. This doesn't happen in the ref sorts out the decision around the Villa handball.
Berge second yellow - Berge almost immediately realises what he's done and lets go. Villa lad wasn't denied possession by it but pretty sure he fell over. Can't complain but it needn't have been a big decision at all.
Villa Penalty - Ramsey caugh on his heels and the Villa lad nicks around him. Ramsey didn't even know he was there but makes very slight contact on the sole of his boot. Nowhere near enough to make him go down but he knows he has to to get any decision. Three rolls and then pretending to benin pain was appalling. Ref initially doesn't look that interested but the appeals seemed to win him over. VAR would have stuck with either decision made by the ref. Sadly for us the ref was swayed by the Villa appeals.
The marginals went against us as they seem to so often do.
VAR has made it worse. I didn't even celebrate Fosters goal as I knew a VAR review would be required. Put it in the bin.

Possibly one of the worst refereeing performances,I have witnessed in a long, long time, and I have seen some bad ones!
To say he was corrupt,is giving him credit.
Even his linesman, especially the one in front of us in the first half, was yards behind play,on occasions!
Deary me,it was painful to swallow.
Especially, when we were so,so close to a point!
Beggars belief, how they can sleep at night!

Just seen it again on motd. It's worse and worse for him.
He has a clear view of the handball. He is perfectly up with play.
He correctly, for a few seconds, refuses to give the penalty. But then he takes not one but TWO double takes at their player's dying swan routine. And changes his mind.
One can't help but imagine he might have given the correct decision for the handball if Foster had stopped playing and demanded the decision? Or if it had been in front of Cricketfield stand instead of the holte?
There, in a nutshell, is the perfect example of how weak and spineless referees are making things harder for themselves. By caving in to cheating, they are encouraging it.
A disgraceful and disgusting performance.

Often it's easy to get worked up at the game but to realise later that the ref wasn't as bad as you'd imagined.
Not tonight. That was even worse on a second viewing.

Not surprised he's only 41. He was the original fast tracked ref wasn't he? You can't make it to the PL as a ref in your 30s and have had any meaningful experience of playing football. That's why these guys are all so poor.

A complete shocker. Said to my mate at half time he hadn't been poor just for us, gave some daft fouls against Villa. It appears he was told at half time that we were playing in yellow and not our normal Claret and Blue threads as second half we didn't get one decision, they got everything.
Worst performance i can remember.
Great show from Burnley. Good football match. Ruined by incompetent officiating again.

I thought after getting in last night and calming down. I would wake up with a fresh perspective on the referee.
I know it’s a difficult job and hammering people week in week out achieves little. However I feel like many do that it was a poor refereeing display.
I knew a penalty was coming, it reminded me of Jon Moss at Old Trafford couldn’t wait to give a decision. Although Attwell gave the pretence that he gave it some thought.

Deliberate handball. Difficult to tell but it was no advantage to the defender as it played the ball away from him and allowed Foster to get a shot in. Goal kick probably the right decision. Your view is based on who you support.
Berge first yellow. Can't comment. Second yellow. Blatant shirt pull that pulled the player back a bit. He didn't go down. Definitely second yellow. Berge was just dumb.
Villa penalty. Ref did actually see it immediately but as per their instructions, allows play to go on to see what develops. Decision correct. The death throws of the Villa player were farcical and par for a Premier League footballer. Hardly worth mentioning so rife is the cheating by players. No players or pundits seem at all embarrassed about this sort of thing. They should be. It's pathetic. How can we have any respect for them?

Burnley goal offside - no clear pics have been shown, just the one that looks as though Foster has a size 80 boot.
Berge second yellow - no issue but rarely gets a yellow
Deliberate handball - not difficult to tell, it's a clear deliberate handball. Clearly the wrong decision.
Villa penalty - if that's a penalty, the game is broken, it's a dive and nothing other than a dive. The, in the aftermath, Jacob Ramsey punches Connor Roberts. It's seen by Attwell who YELLOW cards him.

Just watching MOTD and I got it comepletely wrong re the Berge yellow. First was for a plain old foul. I even got the timeline of events mixed up.
I hadn't even had a drink yesterday so can't make that excuse for soreading misinformation.

My son spoke in the gym this morning to a premier league and football league official he knows and said it was a disgrace that VAR did not give the handball . Then again he is only saying what Mike Dean and all of us already know anyway.

Villa penalty - if that's a penalty, the game is broken, it's a dive and nothing other than a dive. The, in the aftermath, Jacob Ramsey punches Connor Roberts. It's seen by Attwell who YELLOW cards him.
The game is broken for me and likely many others. I just wish I wasn't addicted to it.
