Where is he? What’s the season long injury? When will he be back?

Played 30 games last season otherwise his season totals since his debut are 9,14,4,17,15 (so far this season) 89 in total in 7 years (average of 12.7)

He was nearly fit to start in mid Jan, and we are now no wiser

I work at Manchester Airport. I see him regularly as he travels with Eurowings through T2 to Germany. Have to say, he's looking well so no idea of his injury status

That's just a little bit disingenuous, he's 23 years old so is unlikely to have been playing 40 games a season since his debut. Yes he's been unlucky this season but as you say he played the majority of last season (35 games if you include cups), he also didn't arrive till the last day of the window so missed our first eight fixtures.

The season before at Mönchengladbach he was out with a muscle strain for six weeks but the times he didn't play was mainly because he was an unused substitute, the season before that he wasn't fancied by the manager and his only time out was with Covid.

That's not to do with injury, that's because he was a young player in a squad competing at the top end of the Bundesliga, so game time would always be limited.

Not played in 2024, and as you say close in January. Nothing said since other than he's progressing. I know I'm in the minority here but given his form this season I don't think he's been missed.

I think he’s a good player but I don’t think you’re in a minority thinking he’s not been missed.

O’shea and Esteve is the partnership to break in to

Don't think you will be in the minority. Looked a class above last season and the one player I thought would kick on and excel at this level.

Still time to come good but his fitness is as worrying as his form.

For me Bayer has clearly struggled adapting to the pace change when moving up to the top level, leading to him looking at time clumsy and slow as opposed to cool and in command as he did last season. I would love to see him challenging the CB’s on merit, but he has some progress to make before he challenges what looks our most solid defensive partnership… which is why I believe some fans are suggesting trying pushing him into a defensive midfield position… where again for me he could thrive, but only once his reading of the game/athleticism improves… which I’m sure is what the coaching staff are looking to achieve.

Continue to think he's some way from our best centre back but is the best right back at the club.

Hope he's back before the season ends.

There was a rumour doing the rounds before Brentford game that Beyer had been back in Germany to cool down after a falling out with kompany, Beyer feels he was rushed back to play before he was ready

Agree, struggled in PL and don’t think his body can stand the physicality of the PL. Would think the better PL teams would look to target him when in possession.

Still think his future in the PL is either a RCB in a 3 or as a fullback, one that probably comes into midfield.

I certainly wouldn't be writing him off but O'Shea and Esteve really are looking like a good partnership.

If Beyer is fit I would have him at right back against wolves and push Vitinho back to right wing with assignon suspended

Interesting - could work. Just a game of huge magnitude, not sure if it'd be right to chuck Beyer in, in a position he hasn't played in for 2 seasons coming back from injury...

That is the developing partnership, however, Ekdal is next in line and on the bench. No sign of Beyer.

The injuries are worrying. I remember reading the Monchengladbach forums before we signed him and the consensus was that he was very talented but very injury prone.

I doubt that if true it did leave to anything like a fall out, but this would not surprise me at all.
You don't really see it much as a fan, but there are some players who are very, very protective of their fitness to the point where they like to decide themselves whether they play or not rather than their club.

I know from people inside the club that Vokes was very much this way, and you see it outside of our club too like with stories about Cornet refusing to see a West Ham recommended specialist and instead opting to go back to France to get treatment.

Looks like another case of a player being written off before even getting going in the PL. He’s clearly not been fully fit all season.

I’m not sure where this idea comes from that he would make a good right back?

Hopefully he is fully fit again soon.

And hopefully he adapts his tackling technique, so that he can play more games injury free.

It's interesting that a few posters are commenting on him being a right back. To my knowledge, Kompany has never once tried him at right back but I can certainly see why the suggestion is being made.

I'd never heard of him before we signed him so I don't know how good a right back he was in Germany, but it would certainly be a position that is less demanding on his body. With a strong and balanced partnership between O'Shea and Esteve developing, I don't find it difficult to imagine that Beyer would be a strong option at right back next season moving in to form a back three and into midfield when in possession of the ball.

Yep, think he would be a good option at right back. We need to spend whay little is likely to be available next year on a left back, a dcm and a striker.
